200 Years Later - A Death Warrant?
Posted by Tina
Today marks the 200th birthday of Abraham Lincoln, the much revered and admired president who committed his presidency to the preservation of our nation and to freedom for all of her citizens. As we celebrate and remember this good man it is fitting that we also contemplate the events going on in Washington DC today. To that end I invite you to read the following article by Kevin O'Brien:
“The real price of the stimulus will be individual liberty,” by Kevin O'Brien
** If all goes as scheduled -- and barring an exquisitely timed meteor strike on Washington, D.C., it will -- on a holiday formerly dedicated exclusively to the president who saved the union in hopes of "a new birth of freedom," the president we have today will sign freedom's death warrant. **
** Two quotes from Benjamin Franklin leap to mind: "You have a republic, madam, if you can keep it"; and, "They who would give up an essential liberty for temporary security, deserve neither liberty or security." *** We have kept the republic poorly. And in a stampede toward a false promise of economic security, we have given up our essential liberty. *** Next week, President Barack Obama will approve the biggest expansion of federal power, vis a vis the individual, that Americans have ever seen. *** Mere pork has never been the problem with this monstrosity. Pork we can digest. *** The deeper problem is two-fold: This bill will do almost nothing to ease the current financial crisis and, far worse than that, it tightens the federal government's fist on the future of education, energy research, industrial policy and especially health care. And all without so much consideration as a congressional committee hearing. *** Do we really need Education and Energy departments double their current size? *** Should it be left to 15 federal employees to pass binding judgment on the usefulness of every medical product and procedure? (You'll find that and more in Betsy McCaughey's excellent piece for Bloomberg. *** Nor is anything in the power-grab bill temporary. None of it will ever go away, absent the application of political dynamite. *** Since everything Congress and the Obama administration are doing is certain to lead investors to the opposite conclusion, this recession is going to go on for a while. Which ought to prompt two questions in the minds of Americans: Do our elected leaders not know what they're doing? Or, worse yet, do they know exactly what they're doing? *** Being the suspicious sort, I say it's the latter. They're not, in the words of Obama's top adviser, Rahm Emanuel, letting the financial crisis "go to waste." They're using it to grow, rapidly and exponentially, the dependence of individuals on the federal government. To the degree that they succeed, individual liberty must die, and I don't see anything stopping them. **
Is it possible to roll over in ones grave after two hundred years? I wish I could say happy birthday Mr. President but it's all tears and sorrow for me. Loss of liberty will not result in a better life for any American.

I think history will show American's made a huge mistake voting for a president because of his race and his charisma without much else going for him. Obama is out of his league, he's an amature and he's a socialist, could it get much worse?

" ... his charisma ..."
Then America has made several such mistakes ... the national beer buddy comes to mind immediately. We're still here.
" ...to grow, rapidly and exponentially, the dependence of individuals on the federal government."
Dude, open the eyes! We are, right now, abjectly dependent on the federal government to stave off an economic upheaval ... social carnage of which, I can tell, you have no, absolutely no, conception at all.
Mr. Emanuel is not scary. You are scary.
And why are we abjectly dependent upon our new government? Your free market run amok, that's why! Policies (or non-policies) pursued by your beer buddy, that's why!

"We are, right now, abjectly dependent on the federal government to stave off an economic upheaval..."
That's the story line but I don't buy it.
The source of government revenue is the private sector...ALWAYS...one way or another that's where the money will come from. Not one person working in Washington generates any wealth from his job...they all depend on the private sector for the money they make and the money they spend. The ONLY reason to spend this money is CONTROL...they want to be able to DIRECT THE MONEY....to decide where it will go. It's all about government (democrat) POWER. The high level of corruption that is visible should be causing red flags. Rahm Emanuel admitting they don't want to "waste" the crisis aspect of this to further their agenda should send up red flags.
Prior to the melt down democrats were concerned (having fits) about spending and deficits. What happened to that? Now they can't wait to rack up trillions more without a second thought. And they sell it to the public with dire predictions. If the bill was resonable I'd say it might be necessary but this bill STINKS of PORK. They are LIARS, THEIVES and FRAUDS...every one of them.
"social carnage of which, I can tell, you have no, absolutely no, conception at all."
BOLOGNA! Get over yourself.
"And why are we abjectly dependent upon our new government? Your free market run amok, that's why!"
Pardon me but BULL SH**!
We have not forgotten the housing market that is at the core of this mess. We have not forgotten the big bonuses at Fannie and Freddie from cooked books and all of them EX CLINTON administration people. We have not forgotten the regulations put in place by Carter and Clinton or the activism and intimidation of ACORN. We have also not forgotten the fact that Bush warned repeatedly of problems at Fannie and was dismissed by Barney Frank. We have not forgotten the lobby money to democrats. We have not forgotten the GEorge Soros funding of ACORN. We have also not forgotten the remarks by at least one senator, perhaps two, that caused a run on a California bank...nor the fact that excessive amounts of cash were suddenly withdrawn from money market accounts on a single day causing them to shut down the system. Who did that and why? (no one ever bother to ask) We have not forgotten that the big ponsi scheme dude was a democrat supporter or that many of the CEO's you are so turned in knots over are, or support, democrats.
I've been connecting dots and I'm hear to say once again...something stinks and it definitely smells like democrat meddling and underhanded politics. October surprise anyone? Given what democrats are doing, much of it in secret, it makes perfect sense that all of this is a result of a long term multifaceted power grab and scheme.

"The source of government revenue is the private sector..."
So ... ask 'em to pony up, why don't you.

As to the rest of it, I have to admit, we may possibly have taken advantage of our power ... I mean, we did win ... to rip the lid off federal spending. Yeeehah.
But you have to consider ... what are we spending on? Pointless Bloody Interminable War? No. Political upheaval of the entire Middle East? Nope.
School remodeling, road building ... even mice studying: such lovely, peaceful enterprises. I much prefer my brand of extravagant spending, yes, I do.

"That's the story line but I don't buy it."
Well, next year we'll see, won't we. Next year, I will be jumping up and down: "I told you so! ... you obstructive, unimaginative little so-and-sos!
I have to tell you that the Republican strategy in all this is really quite malicious. Don't think we haven't noticed. You really are thinking that the extraordinarily stupid populace will, in two years, have forgotton how all this come about ... and put you back into the Congress. I suppose it is possible. The populace ARE extraordinarily stupid, there's no denying it. But the strategy is profoundly malicious ... there's no denying that either. Aren't you proud?

Libby your first comment is just rediculous and I have a feeling you know it.
As for the rest of it...
You have to consider that defending the nation is Constitutional...none of the rest is.
You also have to admit that studying mice might be nice when the country is squarely in the black and business is thriving...it's stupid (and purely political) when we are in recession and people are out of work.
"Well, next year we'll see, won't we. Next year, I will be jumping up and down: "I told you so!"
Oh we'll see all right...we'll see that most of the money won't be spent until just before the next election... gotta get out there and buy them votes!
We'll see that without real stimulus the economy will remain bogged down and inflation will start to set in.
We'll see that only certain people benefit from this targeted spending, that only certain companies will be granted access and some will have to jump through union hoops to participate.
We'll see that old people better get used to the idea that some slug in DC will decide whether they deserve to get medicines or treatments.
"you obstructive, unimaginative little so-and-sos!"
(smile)
"I have to tell you that the Republican strategy in all this is really quite malicious."
They didn't get to participate in actually writing the bill so what is so profoundly "malicious" about voting. It is an important part of their job.
If anything is "malicious" it's Pelosi and Reid writing and rewriting this bill behind closed doors and not letting even most democrats take part in the process.
I think maybe you are wondering about how proud you will be in a year...this isn't a good start.
First the populace is wonderful for electing "the one" and now they are profoundly stupid for some possible future act?
I think most people, regardless of age, race, gender, creed, or preferences of any kind will amke the right choices IF they are given information...all of it.
Democrat politicians used to be able to hide all their chenanigans because the fawning press covered for them. Not anymore...which is why the malicious democrats will be trying to destroy talk radio.
But thanks for asking...YES, yes I am proud of those who voted against this rotting, putrid excuse of a bill.

I guess malicious means letting the Dems dangle on their own hook. When this thing passes we will know exactly who to hang. If this is such a slam-dunk fix for our problems why does it matter how the republicans vote or what Rush Limbaugh says about it? Like this administration the "stimulus bill" is total bullsh!t.

If Libby is going to look to our immediate future as evidence of socialist economic policy success or failure I am curious as to which indicators or numbers she will use as evidence of its success or failure?
