Paid by LA not to Teach

May 31, 2009

Now If this is not a reason to start throwing people out of office, I don't know what is. In the LA Unified School District, there are almost 160 teachers and administrators who are collecting almost $10 million a year for doing nothing while their job fitness is reviewed. All this money is being wasted while the school district is having heated closed door sessions on who to layoff because of a budget problems.

One of the most egregious examples is that of Matthew Kim. Kim, who is a special education teacher, was removed from school and assigned to a district office in 2002 after the school board voted to fire him for allegedly harassing teenage students and colleagues. In the mean school district has spent more than $2 million on him in salary and legal costs. Kim spends his days going through the recommended schedule of a teacher while never entering the campus of any school. His day starts in the morning at 7:50 am, with 30 minutes for lunch and ends when the bell at his old campus rings at 3:20 p.m. He is to take off all breaks, school vacations and holidays, per the district agreement with the teacher's union. Remember at no time is Mr Kim to be given any work by the district or show up at school. In the jargon of the school district, Kim is being "housed" while his fitness to teach is under review.

No Frills Charter Schools - "American Indian"

"Spitting in the eye of mainstream education," by Mitchell Landsberg - LA Times

** Three no-frills charter schools in Oakland mock liberal orthodoxy, teach strictly to the test -- and produce some of the state's top scores. *** School administrators take pride in their record of frequently firing teachers they consider to be underperforming. Unions are embraced with the same warmth accorded "self-esteem experts, panhandlers, drug dealers and those snapping turtles who refuse to put forth their best effort," to quote the school's website. *** Students, almost all poor, wear uniforms and are subject to disciplinary procedures redolent of military school. One local school district official was horrified to learn that a girl was forced to clean the boys' restroom as punishment. *** Conservatives, including columnist George Will, adore the American Indian schools, which they see as models of a "new paternalism" that could close the gap between the haves and have-nots in American education. Not surprisingly, many Bay Area liberals have a hard time embracing an educational philosophy that proudly proclaims that it "does not preach or subscribe to the demagoguery of tolerance." *** It would be easy to dismiss American Indian as one of the nuttier offshoots of the fast-growing charter school movement, which allows schools to receive public funding but operate outside of day-to-day district oversight. But the schools command attention for one very simple reason: By standard measures, they are among the very best in California. **

It's a long article but well worth the read...further proof that conservative ideas and principles produce positive results.

Is Slavery Evil?

Cross1771857.jpgThe Sunday Sermon, by OneVike

The topic of slavery is usually accompanied by bitter feelings and condemnation for Americas past. Like America, many civilizations have used slavery as a means of providing labor. Samarian drawings on clay tablets dating back to 4000 BC show captives taken in battle being tied, whipped, and forced to work. Then there are ancient papyrus manuscripts from 2100 BC that record the ownership of slaves by private citizens in Egypt. The earliest mention of slavery in the Bible would be Genesis 9:25 when Noah cursed the descendants of Canaan. From Abraham on down we read of the men in the Bible owning slaves and the Israelites themselves becoming slaves, but never do we read of God condemning slavery. We do read of Him telling Moses how to treat slaves in Exodus chapter 21, but neither God nor Jesus ever condemned the practice.

This absence of any condemnation towards slavery has led many critics to claim that the God of the Christianity and the Bible is evil. Instead of trying to understand why God would not expressly forbid the practice of slavery, I often hear Christians defending God's silence on the evils of slavery. Like Job's friends who defended God by foolishly condemning Job, Christians often times defend God in a rather foolish way by condemning slavery. It's almost as if Christians think that somehow God just forgot to mention the evils of slavery in the Scriptures. I do believe that the practice of slavery in the Bible needs to be addressed. But not to defend God's lack of condemnation, but rather to better understand God's reasoning for not condemning it.

Deporting Illegals

Here is something that should be of great interest for you to pass around and to be honest I didn't know of this until it was pointed out to me. Back during The Great Depression, President Herbert Hoover ordered the deportation of ALL illegal aliens in order to make jobs available to American citizens that desperately needed work.. Harry Truman deported over two million Illegal's after WWII to create jobs for returning veterans.

And then again in 1954, President Dwight Eisenhower deported 13 million Mexican Nationals! The program was called 'Operation Wetback'. It was done so WWII and Korean Veterans would have a better chance at jobs. It took 2 Years, but they deported them.

Today it would be impossible to deport so many illegals due to too many liberals blockiing our every effort with thier new "one world" philosophy and open borders. We've also got too much corruption and ineptness in our new socialist government so it would never happen again. The country that existed back then and the country we have today are vastly different. And that is probably the most alarming part of this story...it's what we've become and why we the people can't run this nation anymore, it belongs to too many global interests.

It's OK for Black Panthers to Intimidate Voters

Bartle Bull was on the tube when I got home from work yesterday. The story he had to share was startling so I looked to see what I could find in the news this morning. Sure enough I didn't find much in the main stream media on this civil rights case even though it also has incredible political ramifications and could easily be pumped into a full blown scandal. Alternative media does have a lot to say about it, but before you cry "vast right wing conspiracy" you should pause and consider...Bartle Bull is a civil rights attorney from the sixties with a very interesting background. He was one of the attorney who watched polling places in the south to make sure that blacks were not kept from the polls through intimidation. As he put it Martin Luther King, as well as Bobby and Jack Kennedy did not lose their lives for this. Lets just say he knows whereof he speaks.

Are People Finally Sick of Protesters?

protest6.jpgby Tina Grazier

Have you ever wanted them to just shut up and get a life? I mean really! A brand new cause is always on the horizon and winning is never good enough for people with a cause...the fight goes on and on regardless of concessions made. There's always another faulty product or unfair practice, or burning need that MUST be addressed. There is always some new industry to harass, some enemy to confront, manipulate and change. It's getting ridiculous. Those of us that have been around for a number of years have spent our entire lives witnessing protest movements. The faithful are often filled with anger and disdain and somehow seem to have a lot of time on their hands....one wonders, do they have jobs?

Professional protesters are not civil human beings in general but they certainly demand that others be. They put on a pleasant concerned face for the cameras but when push comes to shove the true nature of the beast emerges. The media love these people...controversy sells. So they feature the shouts of disapproval, the extreme claims, the obnoxious demands that are served up with plenty of whining and crying about one nit picky thing after another...and rarely check the facts or the alternate point of view. They willfully join the cause putting on concerned faces as they seriously demonize the perceived enemy. And oh, how we have allowed ourselves to be manipulated, bullied and shamed into compliance and silence. Yes I said silence! Society has not allowed the expression of certain things. Some ideas cannot be expressed last the messenger be dismissed and negatively "typed". The ACLU and product lawyers are only too happy to take the money and the case and run.

YOU'LL KNOW WHEN THEY GET SERIOUS

THE TGIF SPECIAL BY....

FLAG1A.jpg

Call it a "backlash" "revolt" "tea party" or whatever. The message was clear. Californians have had enough! Our lawmakers have spent this state to the edge of bankruptcy, and the tax increases recently enacted (and will remain in effect for the next two years) is all they'll get. There'll be no more! That's the message from taxpayers to the legislature in the wake of the special election.

Now, our lawmakers are picking themselves up, dusting themselves off, putting bandages on their bruises and pretending to try to find a way to fix the budget. It'll be interesting to see when they'll finally get serious about it. According to Sacramento Bee columnist Dan Walters, "Democrats may be willing to slash cherished health, welfare and education spending, as well as law enforcement, prisons and firefighting, to drive home the impacts of California's income-outgo imbalance."

That is NOT getting serious about it. That's merely punishing the voters. You'll know if they're serious if they follow the substantial recommendations of the California Performance Review Panel which (in 2004) laid out the plan to save thirty two BILLION dollars over five years by eliminating duplicative bureaucracies, improving internal systems, stamping out fraud and requiring performance-based budgeting.

According to that report, instead of one agency handling taxes like in other states, California has FOUR TAX AGENCIES that are duplicative, inefficient, confusing to taxpayers, competitive with each other and LOSING MONEY.

Much of the state's waste comes from Health and Human Services which amounts to one-third of the state budget. Fraud is rampant in Food Stamps, Medi-Cal and CalWorks programs. The Performance Review Board noted "The legislative Analyst's Office has put the estimated loss due to fraud in the Medi-Cal program at $1.8 billion annually. Some estimates go as high as $3 billion.

Subsidizing illegal immigration and non-English languages costs California more than $10 billion a year. The drain of taxpayer funds is felt in the public schools, the state's welfare system, the unemployment insurance fund, jails and prisons, and much more under Health and Human Services.

The average cost per inmate in California is about $49,000....twice the cost to run prisons in other states. Then, there are the high salaries for state boards and commissions which only meet once or twice a month....and only serve as parking places for termed-out lawmakers...and I could go on and on.

Suffice it to say....there are valid cuts that can AND SHOULD be made if Lawmakers are serious...and they can do it without cutting public safety (police and fire), the elderly and disabled. So far, the governor and lawmakers have shown THEY AREN'T SERIOUS.

Words of wisdom and not so deep thoughts...

SEOUL, South Korea - The U.S. and South Korea put their military forces on high alert Thursday after North Korea renounced the truce keeping the peace between the two Koreas since 1953. The North also accused the U.S. of preparing to attack the isolated communist country in the wake of its second nuclear bomb test, and warned it would retaliate to any hostility with "merciless" and dangerous ferocity.

Big Government's Hammer & Reach

hammer5.jpgby Tina Grazier

Most of us work hard every day with the expectation that our work will sustain and benefit our families. We usually manage to put a little money aside for emergencies and future needs like college for our kids, our retirement years, and charities we support. We also pay taxes and fees...a lot of them. Will the rich pay for the problems we now face as our politicians have indicated or will we all pay more...and are we getting our monies worth?

Government has become an enormous unsustainable cash-eating monster. Politicians keep promising to give us more services, protections, and perks. The result is mass dependency with fewer people to pay the bill. The Social Security and Medicare plans are on a course for meltdown within ten to fifteen years and politicians, presumably oblivious to the future crisis (not!), are asking us to accept an even bigger medical plan. They are also asking us to fund green projects, bailouts, subsidies, housing perks, and on and on. More is the operative word of the current administration. More taxes, more sacrifice, more dependence, more subsidies and favors for selected groups, more pain for a targeted few.

National 912 Project

Have you heard about this National 912 project? This looks like a real good grass roots movement to hold government more accountable and for all the right reasons. Their near term goal is to gather as many patriots as possible to meet up in Washington D.C. on September the 12th and demand more from government than we have been getting. What they are demanding can be found in the group's statement on core values and principles.

The core values of the 912 project are: Honesty, Reverence, Hope, Thrift, Charity, Sincerity, Moderation, Hard Work, Courage, Personal Responsibility and Gratitude.

Principles of this group are: America Is Good. I must always try to be a more honest person than I was yesterday. The family is sacred. I am the ultimate authority over my life, not the government. If you break the law you pay the penalty. Justice is blind and no one is above it. I have a right to life, liberty and pursuit of happiness, but there is no guarantee of equal results. I work hard for what I have and I will share it with who I want too, government should not force me. It is not un-American for me to disagree with authority or to share my personal opinion. The government works for me. I do not answer to them, they answer to me.

If you agree with at least 7 of the above you're a good 912 candidate.

As their webpage says, these principle and values are essential to building and keeping a strong country. They feel these things have been lost and must be restored before America can improve and return to be the kind of country our founding fathers would be proud of. If you would like to know more, check out this website, but I should warn you it's a work in progress and you may find some minor errors or mistakes, but the intent is still right on:

The Audacity of Unawareness

Barack Obama, through his spokesman, claimed that he was unaware of the tax day tea parties. Granted, the MSM has done a good job in suppressing any sort of coverage ahead of time (and the little coverage they did provide was derisive at best) but how out of touch is the Community Organizer in Chief, really?

This much:

- He was unaware that he was attending a church (for 20 years) with a racist pastor who hates America...

- He was unaware that he was family friends with, and started his political career in the living room of a domestic terrorist.

- He was unaware that he had invested in two speculative companies backed by some of his top donors right after taking office in 2005.

North Korea Threats

by Jack Lee

capt.jpgBy now you've probably heard the news that North Korea's leadership is having a cow over the so-called "international program" (basically US and South Korea's) intention to stop ships on the high seas for inspection for possible violations of the UN's nuclear proliferation treaty.

Pyongyang, called the move, "tantamount to a declaration of war!"

Hey Pyongyang, no need to even go there! A peace agreement from the last Korean war doesn't exist, technically a state of war still exists, but I digress.

"Now that the South Korean puppets were so ridiculous as to join in the said racket and dare declare a war against compatriots," North Korea is "compelled to take a decisive measure," the committee jokingly known as the Committee for the Peaceful Reunification of Korea said in a statement carried by state media.

The Obama Administration is being put to the test early on by North Korea and many of Washington's insiders expected this would happen. The timing is good for the PRNK, not so good for an inexperienced young leader like Obama and that is what Pyongyang is counting if they are to reap a rich havest of concessions for their cooperation .

The US has responded to NK's nuclear bomb tests by seeking a consensus of opinion with the UN Security Council as to how we should proceed. Ideally the Obama team would like to reach a diplomatic resolution with compromises. This can be translated into basically a carrot and stick approach that Bush used to no avail.

If the Obama people are counting the UN or sanctions, they better realize North Korea has been sanctioned to the max and it hasn't worked. As for the UN, good luck, this is a hopeless debating society so not much can be expected from the world community.

If we're going to rely on diplomacy, we're going against the odds and recent past realities. Diplomacy has never once reversed the thinking of any determined opposition. Diplomacy does not work to change deeply held ideas, core values or principles. Diplomacy can only be used to broker deals when when other states or parties are ready or able to make them and this sure isn't Communist North Korea.

We're in an age of despots, pirates, failed states and non-aligned terrorists. It's an age of Global Hawk's and Predator drones, of assassins and suicide bombers. It's an age of guns, armies and generals, but it is not an age for diplomats and diplomancy...now enters Barrack Obama, welcome to our world Mr. President. It's your move, are you ready to take on another war? I doubt anything short of the sinking of an aircraft carrier would compel Obama to use military force and even then I have my doubts.

Chrysler Dealership Closings - Who Decided?

Curiosity is growing about Chrysler dealership owners across the country that have been told they are out of business. One man, reported being quite perplexed since his company was, in fact, very successful. The following is part of an interview by Neal Covuto on Fox Business:

"Obama Stealing Private Business," Pamela Geller - Atlas Shrugs

The following was transcribed from an interview by Neal Covuto on Fox Business:

** Obama has seized both General Motors and Chrysler and essentially handed them to the UAW. He is closing down multiple Chrysler agencies. Jim Anderer owns -- soon to be past-tense -- a highly successful and high-performing Chrysler agency on Long Island. Anderer has been advised that his agency is going to be seized by the new ownership -- as we already know this is Barack Hussein Obama. Other Chrysler agencies on Long Island are documented to not be fairing nearly as well. However, many of them -- the "Obama-okayed" ones -- are still planned to be in business. *** Despite multiple letters, emails and phones calls, Anderer has been given no explanation as to why his dealership was targeted. On Neil Cavuto's show, Anderer said "They won't give us a solid explanation. They come up with all these reasons, but none of them seem to make sense" and "but I think there is a lot of favored dealers, there is some collusion."**

CA Supreme Court Upholds Prop 8

Marriage is One man and one woman

"Court upholds Prop. 8 but lets marriages stand," by Bob Egelko, Chronicle Staff Writer

** SAN FRANCISCO -- California voters legally outlawed same-sex marriage when they approved Proposition 8 in November, but the constitutional amendment did not dissolve the unions of 18,000 gay and lesbian couples who wed before the measure took effect, the state Supreme Court ruled today. *** The 6-1 decision upholding Prop. 8 was issued by the same court that declared a year ago that a state law defining marriage as the union of a man and a woman violated the right to choose one's spouse and discriminated on the basis of sexual orientation. *** Prop. 8 undid that ruling by reinstating the definition of marriage that the court had struck down, this time as an amendment to the state Constitution. The author of last year's 4-3 decision, Chief Justice Ronald George, said today that the voters were within their rights to do so. *** "All political power is inherent in the people," George said, quoting the Declaration of Rights in the state Constitution. He said the voters' power to amend their Constitution is limited - and might not include a measure that, for example, deprived same-sex couples of the right to raise a family - but that Prop. 8 did not exceed those limits. *** Under California's domestic-partner law and anti-discrimination statutes, the chief justice said, "same-sex couples continue to enjoy the same substantive core benefits ... as those enjoyed by opposite-sex couples, including the constitutional right to enter into an officially recognized and protected family relationship with the person of one's choice and to raise children." **

Obama Nominates Sonia Sotomayor for US Supreme Court

"Sotomayor: inspired by 'Perry Mason'," by Johanna Neuman LA Times blog

** The newest nominee to the U.S. Supreme Court is a 54-year-old federal appellate court judge who grew up in a housing project in the South Bronx, the oldest child of a couple from Puerto Rico who spoke no English. *** Winning a scholarship to Princeton University and graduating from Yale Law School, where she was editor of the Law Review, Sonia Sotomayor has bipartisan credentials. She was appointed to the federal district court by a Republican president, George H.W. Bush, and elevated to the appellate court by a Democratic president, Bill Clinton. *** Still, President Obama's pick to be the next Supreme Court justice, the first Latina on the court, is inspiring some opposition from Republicans who call her "an activist judge" for a statement she made at Duke University. In the statement -- clip below -- Sotomayor says that appellate courts drive policy. *** Some conservatives have come to her defense, arguing that she was just stating the obvious, noting that the federal appellate courts are the first hearing for the issues that eventually reach the Supreme Court. **

Obama's Soft Diplomatic Approach Mocked

"Memorial Day Surprises Knock Props from Obama's Diplomatic Overtures," by Leo Rennert

** President Obama vowed to do a better job than George W. Bush by using diplomacy instead of wielding a big stick in dealing with hostile nations like Iran, North Korea and Syria. It hasn't worked. *** Obama pleaded with them to "unclench their fists" and promised to reward them with a softer, more deferential United States eager to atone for past bullying tactics. Thus, the President opted for more positive relations with the United Nations, extolled the virtues of multilateralism, and appointed high-level special envoys to Iran (Dennis Ross), to Afghanistan-Pakistan (Richard Holbrooke) and to Israel and the Palestinians (George Mitchell). *** So far, however, there have been no takers for Obama's entreaties. Just the opposite. The president's charm offensive has had the opposite effect -- a tougher, more belligerent tone, coupled with ominous muscle-flexing by the likes of Tehran and North Korea. The Taliban also ihs been riding high, while Pakistan falters. *** On Memorial Day weekend, North Korea announced that it has conducted a "successful" nuclear test, which came at the heels of its recent test-firing of an advanced, long-range rocket over Japan, while Iranian President Adhmadinejad ruled out negotiations with Washington over his nuclear program Tehran in the meantime rattled more sabers by demonstrating that it could reach Israel, U.S. troops in the Mideast and portions of Europe with a new 2,000-kilometer-range missile. *** While Obama places his bets on "soft" power to cajole Iran, North Korea and Syria away from threatening their neighbors, they see his agenda as appeasement and a license to create even more mischief. **

HOW SAFE ARE YOUR GENERIC DRUGS?

by Jack Lee

Generic switching is a common practice at pharmacies across America, but it's not always the patient asking for the change. In many cases its the insurance carrier that requires a generic be substituted when available. In most cases the FDA says this is fine, but it allows a latitude of 80 to 125% potency and this can make a critical difference to patients who are sensitive to the medication.

If you are ordering from an overseas pharmacy the FDA does not monitor the potency and you must rely on the nation of origin for their quality control. A number of Americans now order through Canadian pharmacies for their long term prescriptions, however, more and more Canadian drugs are supplied by low bidders in places like India or Sri Lanka. In a recent case a friend of mine purchased generic Benicar only to discover the potency was less than 50% and the generic formula reacted so poorly his blood pressure went from 110/70 to 180/110. The company that sold the drug was contacted and replaced the order with a generic from England and the problem was solved. However, you can imagine if this wasn't discovered early on, it might not have had a good ending. This is why you should always check to be sure the medication you are buying is what your doctor prescribed and not a substitute requested by your insurance company.

Honor Them Every Day

u13298839.jpgby Tina Grazier

On this Memorial Day of 2009 there will be parades and music all across this land with heartfelt speeches to mark the day. There will be reunions, picnics, prayers and stories exchanged. American flags will wave o'r the many graves and as we gather together those who fought and died for us will be honored and remembered. Many of us will spend some time in quiet reflection today. Memories of moments in combat will come to the fore for some; for others it will be the loss of a loved one or friend that stings the eyes. Still others must rely on symbols or testament to invoke that spirit of remembrance.

The simplicity of the photo above became such a touchstone for me. It humbly tells the story of patriotic men and women, of their sacrifice and sense of duty. But it also tells the story of long hours spent in all kinds of weather: sunny days, extreme heat and cold, wind, stinging sandstorms, ice and snow or relentless rain. I can imagine dog-tired feet with every muscle and bone a testament to the long hours spent marching, maneuvering, fighting...and waiting. I think of their quiet moments thinking about home, about their wives and children, family and friends...about their brothers in arms and about surviving. Some of these heroes endured great hardships, starved to death, were captured and tortured or drowned at sea. Many died so very, very young.

Yes, we honor the fallen today from all branches of the service. We are thankful for extraordinary dedication, bravery and acts of heroism. We are grateful for those moments of endurance and discomfort. We honor them on this special day each year but we can do so much more. The very best way to honor them is to live each day mindful of their sacrifice, faithful to the country they fought to defend and grateful for the freedoms they paid for in blood.

Dedicated to the memory of a friend who came to mind today.

The Death of Israel (Excellent Read)

Excerpt from the original article by Dick Morris

From Caroline Glick, deputy editor and op-ed writer for the Jerusalem Post, comes alarming news. An expert on Arab-Israeli relations with excellent sources deep inside Netanyahu's government, she reports that CIA chief Leon Panetta, who recently took time out from his day job (feuding with Nancy Pelosi) to travel to Israel "read the riot act" to the government warning against an attack on Iran.

More ominously, Glick reports (likely from sources high up in the Israeli government) that the Obama administration has all but accepted as irreversible and unavoidable fact that Iran will soon develop nuclear weapons. She writes, "...we have learned that the [Obama] administration has made its peace with Iran's nuclear aspirations. Senior administration officials acknowledge as much in off-record briefings. It is true, they say, that Iran may exploit its future talks with the US to run down the clock before they test a nuclear weapon. But, they add, if that happens, the US will simply have to live with a nuclear-armed mullocracy."

Dark Sucker

dim bulb.jpgAuthor Unknown

For years, it has been believed that electric bulbs emit light, but recent information has proved otherwise. Electric bulbs don't emit light; they suck dark. Thus, we call these bulbs Dark Suckers. The Dark Sucker Theory and the existence of dark suckers prove that dark has mass and is heavier than light. First, the basis of the Dark Sucker Theory is that electric bulbs suck dark. For example, take the Dark Sucker in the room you are in. There is much less dark right next to it than there is elsewhere. The larger the Dark Sucker, the greater its capacity to suck dark. Dark Suckers in the parking lot have a much greater capacity to suck dark than the ones in this room. So with all things, Dark Suckers don't last forever. Once they are full of dark, they can no longer suck. This is proven by the dark spot on a full Dark Sucker. A candle is a primitive Dark Sucker. A new candle has a white wick. You can see that after the first use, the wick turns black, representing all the dark that has been sucked into it. If you put a pencil next to the wick of an operating candle, it will turn black. This is because it got in the way of the dark flowing into the candle. One of the disadvantages of these primitive Dark Suckers is their limited range. There are also portable Dark Suckers. In these, the bulbs can't handle all the dark by themselves and must be aided by a Dark Storage Unit. When the Dark Storage Unit is full, it must be either emptied or replaced before the portable Dark Sucker can operate again. Dark has mass. When dark goes into a Dark Sucker, friction from the mass generates heat. Thus, it is not wise to touch an operating Dark Sucker.

Who Created Evil

Cross1771857.jpgThe Sunday Sermon by OneVike

The debate about who created evil is an important one since atheists and skeptics use the existence of evil in their arguments against theism. It is incumbent upon all Christians to understand what the Scriptures say about the God they worship and the existence of evil in the world. If God created everything, and if evil is in the world, does it follow that God created evil? We are told as Christians to believe what the Bible says. Even the popular children's song, "Jesus Loves Me", has in its lyrics, "Jesus loves me, this I know for the Bible tells me so". So, let us read what the Bible says. ,

In (Genesis 1:1) we read, "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth." The New Testament says in (John 1:3), "All things were made through Him, and without Him nothing was made that was made." So, we now know that God made everything through Christ, but are there any Scriptures that specifically say God is the author of evil? The closest we can get is (Isaiah 45:7), "I make peace and create calamity", and (Amos 3:6), "If there is calamity in a city, will not the LORD have done it?" Ok, can we then point to any passages that might elude to God condoning evil? Probably the best examples would be the time Joseph confronted his brothers who sold him into slavery, "you meant evil against me; but God meant it for good" (Genesis 50:20), and (Exodus 9:16) when God sent Moses to Pharoah with this message, ".....I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth." There are those who claim that these and similar Scriptures prove that God is the author of evil.

Now, if you're coming from the persuasion that God has foreordained the entire course of events in this world as Calvinism teaches, then reason and logic would suggest that God must be the author of sin. However, Calvinist who teach that God is the author of evil would be smart to pay attention to the following quote from (John Calvin) himself: "It is helpful, I think, to understand that sin is not itself a thing created. Sin is neither substance, being, spirit, nor matter. So it is technically not proper to think of sin as something that was created. Sin is simply a want of moral perfection in a fallen creature. Fallen creatures themselves bear full responsibility for their sin. And all evil in the universe emanates from the sins of fallen creatures." Calvin goes on to state unequivocally that, "God's role with regard to evil is never as its author. He simply permits evil agents to work, then overrules evil for His own wise and holy ends. Ultimately He is able to make all things--including all the fruits of all the evil of all time--work together for a greater good." The biggest defenders of the idea that God created evil are followers of John Calvin's teachings. Seems to me that there is a bit of a schism in the ranks of the Calvinist movement.

Armed_Forces_Collage_1.jpgBy President Barack Obama - The Hill

To the Brave Men and Women of the United States Armed Forces:

We as a people and a Nation owe you a profound debt of gratitude, yet, to say thank you is not enough. You comprise the strongest and most powerful fighting force the world has ever known. Your unmatched strength, coupled with a stark awareness of the responsibility that it entails, never cease to inspire us. To courageously take on the tremendous burden of protecting us all, you have left the safety and comfort of your homes, a decision which your loved ones have valiantly accepted. This exceptional spirit of sacrifice is the mark of our Armed Forces and their families.

As we honor your service, w also reflect upon the lives of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice serving our country. You all stand as shining examples to the American people and to the world for your love of country, dedication to duty, and passion for freedom.

Serving as your Commander-in-Chief is my highest honor, and your well-being is my greatest responsibility. As a Nation, we are humbled by your selfless commitment, for we owe our freedom to your faithful service.

I wish you all the best, and may God continue to bless and protect you.

77% Want Smaller Government - Rasmussen

"77% See Politicians Unwillingness to Cut Government Spending as Bigger Problem Than Voter Resistance to Tax Hikes"

** For nearly four-out-of-five U.S. voters, the problem is not their unwillingness to pay taxes. It's their elected representatives' refusal to cut the size of government. *** Seventy-seven percent (77%) of voters say the bigger problem in the United States is the unwillingness of politicians to control government spending. Just 14% say the problem is that voters are unwilling to pay enough in taxes, according to a new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey. *** These findings parallel results in California just before voters there rejected several ballot initiatives aimed at raising taxes. After that vote on Tuesday, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger suggested the state might need federal financial help, but voters nationwide oppose any bailouts for California and other economically troubled states. *** Just 28% of all voters say, generally speaking, that increases in government spending help the economy, down seven points from February. Fifty-three percent (53%) now believe spending increases hurt the economy, and seven percent (7%) say they have no impact. **

"Malaria, Politics and DDT - The U.N. bows to the anti-insecticide lobby" - WSJ

** In 2006, after 25 years and 50 million preventable deaths, the World Health Organization reversed course and endorsed widespread use of the insecticide DDT to combat malaria. So much for that. Earlier this month, the U.N. agency quietly reverted to promoting less effective methods for attacking the disease. The result is a victory for politics over public health, and millions of the world's poor will suffer as a result. *** The U.N. now plans to advocate for drastic reductions in the use of DDT, which kills or repels the mosquitoes that spread malaria. The aim "is to achieve a 30% cut in the application of DDT worldwide by 2014 and its total phase-out by the early 2020s, if not sooner," said WHO and the U.N. Environment Program in a statement on May 6. **

The Speeches Part I

Barack Obamaimage4122972g.jpgby Tina Grazier (with a little help from my friends at NRO)

President Obama delivered his speech, "Cleaning Up...a Mess" with his usual competence and smooth, lofty charm. These traits are more than enough to bedazzle his followers but others found his speech to be self-serving, contradicting and defensive. I certainly did, starting with his title. I'm immediately compelled to ask, does he think he's the first president in our history to enter the White House with unfinished business awaiting him at his desk? Does he think he will be able to get away with blaming the former administration for the very full plate of his presidency indefinitely? Does he honestly believe he can get away with chastising others for finger pointing while he engages in extreme finger pointing himself? "Cleaning up the mess" is part of his job. It's reasonable to assume he knew exactly what he was getting into when he chose to run for the office. An adult would simply roll up his sleeves, get to work, and graciously stand on the shoulders of those who have come before him. Not so this president.

From his choice of venue to his grand words about the moral underpinnings of our founding documents, Obama cloaked himself in patriotism and sought to sound authoritatively presidential. Although I was happy to see him acknowledge our founding documents and underscore the freedom and morality they represent it was a bit disconcerting to see him use them as a weapon with which bludgeon his predecessor:

Ethnic Cleansing in Los Angeles

mexicans.jpgMexican gangs seek to purge whites and blacks from it's neighborhoods in Los Angeles. It's been an ongoing problem for years and it's getting worse, but I bet you had no idea. It's not your fault either, oddly this just hasn't been a big news story, mainly its been sporadic regional reporting and some blogging.

You would think gangs trying to kill people not of their race would be a huge story and a cause to be championed by Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson, but they are apparently busy elsewhere. Nobody in the ACLU is filing lawsuits and those high profile politicians you would expect to see on TV haven't been calling for the National Guard. Instead a whole lot of the usual media-mongers are simply AWOL. They have been sidestepping this huge problem because they don't have the will to fix it and it's not about whites being evil racists. It would also be bringing attention to another problem they would just as soon not address, unchecked immigration from Mexico.

THE TGIF SPECIAL BY....

FLAG1A.jpg

abruce.jpg

While Californians were concentrating on the special election ballot measures (as confusing as they were) our lawmakers were quietly passing the "Harvey Milk--Gay Day" bill. Unless vetoed by the governor, it will affect children as young as kindergarten. SB572 directs every public school in California to conduct "suitable commemorative exercises" every May 22nd in support of the radical sexual agenda of Harvey Milk.

While only one Republican voted in favor of the bill (Abel Maldonado) not a single Republican Senator stood up to speak out against it. Not even our own Senator Sam Aanested. So far, not one Republican has called on the governor to veto it.

What's really interesting about this "in your face" vote by our legislature is that it runs counter to a statewide poll by Survey USA. That poll in early March found that sixty nine percent of Californians oppose creating "Harvey Milk Day" while only 19 percent approved. In spite of the poll's results, the Democrat-controlled Senate and Assembly thumbed its noses at us and in effect said "screw you."

It's fairly obvious that our democrat-controlled legislature is determined to promote the homosexual lifestyle as a role model for our children. Randy Thomason of Save California.com says "It's absurd--the government school system teaches children not to smoke or use drugs, yet SB572 will teach children as young as kindergarten that homosexuality is good and healthy."

According to the California Department of Pubic Health, Office of AIDS, HIV/AIDS Surveillance Report dated March 2009, Homosexual and bisexual behavior causes up to 82 percent of all HIV transmissions in California....and yet....the text of SB572 states that "On Harvey Milk day, exercises remembering the life of Harvey Milk, and recognizing his accomplishments as well as the contributions he made to this state, should be conducted; specifically, all public schools and educational institutions are encouraged to observe, and conduct suitable commemorative exercises."

I, for one, couldn't care less if some sicko gets his jollies by dipping his wick in a cesspool...but when that sicko tries to tell our school kids that it's normal and healthy (and our Democrat-controlled legislature agrees) then it's obvious....California has become one VERY SICK STATE!

"From Russia With No Love," by Judi McLeod - Canada Free Press

** Pravda, former official voice of the Soviet Union in the days of former President Mikhail Gorbachev, is cheering the Death of America under the leadership of "Marxist" Barack Hussein Obama. In his Pravda-run piece, blogger Stanislav Mishin gloats in 'American capitalism gone with a whimper'. *** "It must be said, that like the breaking of a great dam, the American descent into Marxism is happening with breath taking speed, against the back drop of a passive, hapless sheeple, excuse me dear reader, I meant people" writes Mishin. *** "True, the situation has been well prepared on and off for the past century, especially the past twenty years. The initial testing grounds was conducted upon our Holy Russia and a bloody test it was. But we Russians would not just roll over and give up our freedoms and our souls, no matter how much money Wall Street poured into the fists of the Marxists." *** The Russian people were not given the opportunity to roll over and give up their freedoms, because communism was forced upon them. *** "Those lessons were taken and used to properly prepare the American populace for the surrender of their freedoms and souls, to the whims of their elites and betters," the column continues. **

It's human nature to hate or envy others who have it better than you but it is an immature trate when acted upon. That someone would write such a column as the one in Pravda only demonstrates the weakness of the Marxism. It destroys the heart of a man, reducing him to schoolboy emotions.

A Climate-Industrial Complex?

"The Climate-Industrial Complex - Some businesses see nothing but profits in the green movement," by Bjorn Lomborg - WSJ

** We are told that very expensive carbon regulations are the only way to respond to global warming, despite ample evidence that this approach does not pass a basic cost-benefit test. We must ask whether a "climate-industrial complex" is emerging, pressing taxpayers to fork over money to please those who stand to gain. *** This phenomenon will be on display at the World Business Summit on Climate Change in Copenhagen this weekend. The organizers -- the Copenhagen Climate Council -- hope to push political leaders into more drastic promises when they negotiate the Kyoto Protocol's replacement in December. *** The opening keynote address is to be delivered by Al Gore, who actually represents all three groups: He is a politician, a campaigner and the chair of a green private-equity firm invested in products that a climate-scared world would buy. *** Naturally, many CEOs are genuinely concerned about global warming. But many of the most vocal stand to profit from carbon regulations. The term used by economists for their behavior is "rent-seeking." *** The world's largest wind-turbine manufacturer, Copenhagen Climate Council member Vestas, urges governments to invest heavily in the wind market. It sponsors CNN's "Climate in Peril" segment, increasing support for policies that would increase Vestas's earnings. A fellow council member, Mr. Gore's green investment firm Generation Investment Management, warns of a significant risk to the U.S. economy unless a price is quickly placed on carbon. **

As it turned out we could not borrow and spend our way out of the depression, the government measures only insured that it lasted a few extra years. This time the debt load will last a couple of generations!

The People Just Said NO!

by Jack Lee

The vote is in and the people have spoken! NOT ONE MORE CENT for a wasteful, bloated and generally unresponsive state government!

We've learned from our past mistakes that there is no amount of money that will ever be enough for the spending addicts in Sacramento.

The anger in us has been building and it's been building for a long, long time. Now, when the cost surges well past 100 billion dollars for just one year of state government and you say its not enough, we need more, much more, we say go check yourselves into rehab or wherever spending addicts go and come back when you're clean and sober and maybe we'll talk.

What you've failed to notice in your many years in office is this our state and you've been treating it like your personal piggy bank.

You legislators have been buying votes from desperate people looking to get something free from government and in the process you've ruined our economy and bankrupted the state coffers. Now you're going to be forced into taking back many of those "free" things and thats not going to make those voters real happy with you.

The Great Frustration

catsdn.jpgby Tina Grazier

One of the really tough things about being a conservative in America today is the frustration that arises when economic policies that make sense are dismissed in favor of policies that are proven failures. We are currently doing things that will cause economic malaise...if we're lucky...and total collapse if we're not. We are moving to put government in charge of nearly every important aspect of our lives, healthcare, energy, banking and industry.

The policies of John Kennedy and Ronald Reagan produced a positive economic result and the policies of Jimmy Carter produced a very different result. Big government socialist countries around the world always suffer economically and the more despotic they become the more the people suffer. It's a matter of historical record. What is the problem? Why don't people get that? Is it ignorance, fear, childlike dependency, or craving for instant gratification? Is it a naive expectation that perfection is possible if only we grow government jeeuust a little bit "more"...what?

Conservatives vent about this crazy nonsensical aspect of the political argument with a great deal of passion and zeal, sometimes even anger...and, why not? After years of sharing the statistical and historical evidence it is maddening that people don't get it. What does it take to get them to act in their own best interests instead of chasing some utopian dream that has failed again and again? What does it take to get them to see that big government policies and programs will ultimately will cost them, and future generations, not just in terms of their prosperity but in terms of their physical and mental well being as well? It's a great frustration.

I read a Wall Street Journal article last night that I hope...pardon the word...has the power to reach into a few of those reluctant brains to produce a cacophonous ahaaa...a pin ball machine effect complete with popping lights and wild music...yeee hawww!!!

I will tease you by sharing my favorite excerpt from the article but you really should read the entire piece. The writer, John Steele Gordon, wrote a book published in 2004 called, "An Empire of Wealth: The Epic History of American Economic Power". If this article is any indication, the book must be a fascinating and informative read. See if you get what I mean:

Shakespeare himself coined some 1,700 words. *** Thomas Jefferson invented about 200 words, and former President George W. Bush created a handful, the most prominent "misunderestimate." TUESDAY'S VOTE

by Jack Lee

I strongly recommend a NO vote on the first 4:

Proposition 1A - NO
Proposition 1B - NO
Proposition 1C - NO
Proposition 1D - NO

After that you are on your own, I see it as a mixed bag, I'll probably vote for E and F just to mess with the system! It's a robbing of Peter to Paul kind of logic.

Proposition 1E - ?
Proposition 1F - ?

My reasoning is simple, the more money we give to government, the more they waste. Look at what we spend on education and look at the product! It's an outrage!

If they can't run this state on $100 billion a year there is something seriously wrong in Sacramento. What they are really telling us is we have too many government offices doing what the private sector should do under contract. At least half of what the State is doing now could be done cheaper, faster and better in the private sector, think of the savings! We could turn this state around and do it almost overnight if we trusted more in free enterprise and competitive bidding to get things done, rather than wasteful government bureaucracies.

New Zealand went through an economic crisis quite similar to ours and this is what saved them. NZ turned red ink into a budget surplus with a better run infrastructure from parks to highways through privatization and competition.

This is the time we must redefine and limit the role of government! This is the time that we must say.... stop the waste, fraud and abuse! We must take a firm stand to protect our freedoms from the encroachment of socialism.

We don't need new taxes...we need a government that is more effective, more transparent, and more accountable. We do this tomorrow by saying NO to new taxes, NO MORE! Vote NO on Proposition 1A, 1B, 1C and 1D! NO, NO, NO, NO!

Is Barrack Obama Arrogant?

by Tina Grazier

After the planes crashed and the buildings came down on 9/11, and as the painful process of searching for bodies and cleaning away the rubble played out on our TV screens, I saw a determined president standing tall for our country and the world. He was a man ready and willing to take on a challenge no one had ever faced before. I saw a man who carefully made plans and executed them with confidence and authority. He was resolute in the face of a dangerous enemy that had hoped to see America weak and frightened. George Bush was a strong leader with the face of a warrior prepared to do whatever was necessary to keep Americans safe. The task ahead was not about him or his leadership style, it was about the safety of others, a whole world of innocent others who were counting on him to lead the fight and defeat the terrorists. As the war continued, and proved difficult most in the press and many in the opposition party, irresponsibly saw the president quite differently and began to take every opportunity to undermine his efforts. They labeled our president "arrogant".

Today we continue to be involved in the "long war," a term coined by General John P. Abizaid. It was adopted by President Bush, according to the article, in order to "underscore the long-term challenge posed by al Qaeda and other Islamic extremist groups." As far as I can tell there is no indication that the war will be over soon or that some grand Obama plan will bring instant and miraculous results. In fact it will most likely continue to be, to borrow a phrase from Donald Rumsfeld, "a long hard slog".

The Secretary of State for Texas today has announced the completion of the State elections Board investigation into voting irregularities during the "Sovereignty Act" referendum.

The States investigation concluded that while 2 precincts in rural areas along the border and 1 precinct in San Antonio did pass out pamphlets giving faulty directions to 2 polling stations, these pamphlets were recalled 2 days before the vote, with new pamphlets being sent out and ads being taken out on both TV and Radio stations in the precincts in an attempt to correct for the error. Precinct managers in all 3 precincts stated that there were individuals that had showed up to the wrong polling place, all of them were given directions to the correct polling stations along with a form to fill out for a provisional ballot if they were not able to make it by the close of polls. To date only 27 such provisional ballots were turned in.

Cross1771857.jpgHomosexuality : Defiance of God and the Truth

OneVike

With the recent success of proposition 8 in California, and the polls showing a majority of Americans across the country opposed to giving marital status to homosexual couples, one would think that the same sex-marriage debate would have faded away. Unfortunately, that has not been the case. Every week we hear of another state either passing laws that allow gay marriages, or judges of those states ruling by fiat to force it upon society. As a logical Christian, I look at the many prophecies God has given us throughout the Scriptures, and I can see the writing on the wall. In the near future we will be living in a society that not only allows same-sex marriage but also accepts it as a normal way of life. It really should not surprise anyone, especially when you consider our society has allowed its high court to banish God from the class room and rule a woman has a right to abort her children. While I admit this is a battle we will inevitably lose, it is still one we must fight in the hearts and minds of every man and woman in America and abroad. As a Christian I stand behind the Bible that clearly states, homosexual behavior is a sin. It is this battle line we must make our stance upon as we continue to fight and advance the truth of the gospel in America and around the world.

Paul told the believers in Rome, that we have all sinned and thus fall short of the glory of God. (Romans 3:23 ) So if homosexuality is considered a sin, then an explanation of what sin is would be needed. The best definition I have ever heard to describe exactly what sin is would be, "anything that falls short of the perfection of a perfect God" I bring this up because many churches and Christian leaders allow those caught up in the gay lifestyle to believe they are not sinning. These false teachers are under the assumption that God has made them the way they are so obviously He would condone their behavior. They also teach that the Bible does not really condemn homosexual behavior or that Jesus would not condemn this behavior. The reality is that these claims are just more lies by Satan to convince an individual to continue practicing behavior that keeps them away from God. However, if they insist upon twisting Scripture to justify their behavior, it is our duty to point out their errors.

The Death of A Terrorist Organization

Ltte_emblem.jpg

For decades the Tamil Tigers of Sri Lanka have fought a vicious guerilla style war against the government in order to gain secession for the Tamil State. They became infamous for barbaric atrocities against civilians, including kidnappings and assassinations on high profile targets. They were known for recruiting child soldiers and inventing the suicide belt and using women in suicide attacks.

It is estimated that well over 70,000 people have died from their acts of terrorism and clashes with government forces. As of 2007 their death toll exceeded that of Al Qaeda, the Taliban and Hamas combined. 25 years of destruction and incalculable human suffering has made this struggle the longest running war in modern times.

In their final weeks when defeat was inevitable the Tamil Tigers sent a message to the government forces that they were ready to lay down their arms and surrender. To the great surprise of the Tamil fighters their peace offer was rejected. The reply was fight to the death! The exhausted and beleaguered Tamil forces kept retreating, but they were completely encircled and there was no possible escape. Last Sunday in a final desperate act to break out, they sent a number of suicide bombers against government soldiers. In one of the last chaotic fire fights about 70 rebels fled down a hillside to escape by boat. They were caught at the waters edge by machine gun fire. Government forces then closed in for the final assault on the last remaining outpost. The Tamil fighters within were slaughtered without mercy just as they had done to so many innocent victims in the past. The fate of the top rebel leader, Velupillai Prabhakaran, is uncertain, although it's believed he has committed suicide with several of his top aides as government forces stormed their compound. Forensic testing has been ordered before making a press release.

In the past the Sri Lankan government has entered into numerous negotiations with the rebels and they've sought a number of peaceful resolutions. Each time it backfired and the rebels gained ground. This time it was different, it was an all out war and the Tamil Tigers are no more. Peace has been achieved, but only by total and complete victory over the enemy. I can't help but wonder now if the rest of the world will some day realize this is what it takes to win against terrorism?

It's time to call for the resignation of Nancy Pelosi for lying and incompetence.

Speaker Nancy Pelosi led the charge to prosecute those who approved the policy on water boarding, but now the Congressional records show Pelosi was on the committee that approved the water boarding and rough interrogation tactics. We have in evidence a number of memo's as well as gov. witnesses testifying under oath that she knew seven years ago what was going on! Personally, I never bought her story for a second. Nancy Pelosi is an expert on torture, heck, she's been torturing "W" for years! Now, conservatives are getting some satisfaction as they watch Madam Speaker squirm before a barrage of uncomfortable questions by the media.

Now and then someone says something that is so clear...so true...it must be highlighted.

Democrats love to control the national conversation. They've always been able to do it with the help of their friends in the media. The latest is that the right wing of the Republican Party is passee, old and tired...Ronald Reagan should be tossed on the scrap heap. We've been marginalized, isolated, left behind in the dust. (and hopefully gone for good) Weak-kneed Republicans have bought into it. The truth is something entirely different and Cheri Jacobus has nailed it:

"Obama lurches left," by Cheri Jacobus - The Hill

** After federal spending in the Bush years that unnerved conservatives, the GOP now remains true to its core principles of restrained spending; smaller, more responsible government; and a strong national security. But the ascension of Barack Obama to the White House with Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) clenching the Speaker's gavel has ushered in an era of unprecedented leftward movement. It's true the parties are much further apart than a year ago -- but not because the GOP lurched right. It's because the Democrats lurched left and moved the goalposts. The center did not move. **

IT'S ONLY ONE VOTE -- BUT IT'S MY VOTE

My DMV renewal notice arrived in my mailbox on Wednesday. After opening it, and seeing how much it'll cost to re-register my 1997 Chevy, it reminded me that I hadn't yet filled out my absentee ballot. I immediately put the DMV renewal form down, and opened the envelope containing my ballot. It was with great pleasure that I filled in the NO oval of each ballot measure except 1F. That's the only one that got my 'yes' vote. No pay raises for lawmakers when the state faces a deficit.

Why? Rather than cut frivolous spending, our lawmakers in their wisdom decided to take more of my limited income to pay for their lavishness. Then, they have the audacity to add a ballot measure that would increase the length of time the new tax increases remain in effect. Gawd I hope the electorate turns these propositions down.

And yes, I'll admit, if the props fail, our lawmakers will punish us! They'll see to it that additional cuts will be made that'll be excruciatingly painful---TO US, BUT NOT TO THEM!! Hopefully, the pain to us will be so severe that we'll not forget it when 2010 rolls around and it's time for us to elect new state legislators---and governor.

Yes....I thoroughly enjoyed filling out my vote-by-mail ballot. I realize it's only one vote...but it's MY vote...and it's the only way I know to send the message that the incompetence of our state legislature must END, and that as a citizen, and resident of this state, I'm sick and tired of being ripped off by elected officials who believe it's their right to live high on the hog on my money.

I have to budget according to my income. THEY SHOULD BUDGET ACCORDING TO THE STATE'S INCOME. Hopefully, Californians will send that message loud and clear on Tuesday, May 19th.

This could be the start of something big!

"Lady's got ants in her pants," by Wesley Pruden - Washington Times

** The speaker has told so many versions of what she knew about what was going on at Guantanamo, and when she knew it, that all we know now is that she can't keep her stories straight. Flustered to the point of panic, she insisted Monday that the CIA lied to her: "My statement is clear, and let me read it again. Uh, I'm sorry. I have to find the page ... When, um, when, when my staff person - I'm sorry, the page is out of order ..." *** None of the members who served with her on the House Intelligence Committee support Miz Pelosi's remarkable claim of brainwashing. Other congressional colleagues, trying to defend her, have had to clarify their clarifications about what they said about her imaginative stories. Steny Hoyer of Maryland, the Democratic majority leader, first said that maybe Congress should look into who knew what, and when, and get a straight story: "The facts need to come out." *** Even from the speaker. But then the nanny of the House, embarrassed by what "the facts" said about her, called Mr. Hoyer in for a spanking. **

Obama's National Security "Razzle Dazzle" Routine a Flop

Chicago2002_chicago_009.jpgby Tina Grazier

Barack Obama's style reminds me of Billy Flynn, the "razzle dazzle 'em" lawyer from the 2002 hit movie, "Chicago". Billy Flynn is a high profile lawyer known for using the right song and dance to dazzle the court to make sure his guilty clients get away with murder. ** Billy dazzles:

Roxie, you got nothing to worry about. It's all a circus, kid. A three ring circus. These trials- the wholeworld- all show business. But kid, you're working with a star, the biggest! *** (singing) Give it the old razzle dazzle...Razzle Dazzle 'em...Give 'em an act with lots of flash in it...And the reaction will be passionate * Give 'em the old hocus pocus...Bead and feather 'em...How can they see with sequins in their eyes? (two three four) What if your hinges all are rusting?...What if, in fact, you're just disgusting?...Razzle dazzle 'em...And they'll never catch wise!

Obama dazzles! He works the room, transforming the crowd into a swooning frenzy, and then he tells them exactly what they're longing to hear. He shuffles, he glides...working fast and loose, moving from issue to issue so there's no chance to consider, complain, debate, or respond. The routine delivers a very exciting and entertaining act for his audience...but it's lousy theater when the theme involves serious national security issues.

Religious Leaders Win Right Speak Out on Politics

by OneVike

Every election year religious leaders across America have been warned not speak out from their pulpits about candidates or issues up for a vote. Now in a major ruling that supports their 1st amendment right to free speech, the IRS has given Christians across the country a victory in their battle with the left. ""The Liberty Legal Institute has announced today that the IRS found that pastors who gathered in 2006 for a series of public policy conferences had every right to do so, and that the organizers of the event did not violate any tax laws that govern non-profit organizations."

Now can we get back to what the founding fathers of this country meant when they ratified all the amendments to the constitution? Remember, the Bill of Rights was adopted to limit the government's control over the people. It is not a document that tells us what we can do, but what the government cannot do! When the government says you cannot speak out on anything or anyone then it is violating the 1st amendment right to free speech.

Any and all Americans should be free to spend whatever amount of their hard-earned cash to influence politics and legislation. For too long the left has dictated to Christians what it is we can and cannot speak about, now the IRS has finally leveled the playing field.

STATE IS OUT OF MONEY - WE NEED MORE TAXES!!!

BY Jack Lee

cash-pile-notes.gifYou've seen the ballot proposition ads, so you know that if it doesn't get signed into law your house will burn down because there will be no fire fighters. You will have to do without cops too, so you better practice making siren sounds to scare aware burglars. There's a good chance you will have to home school your kids or your neighbors kids because there won't be enough teachers or schools and this will all happen... if those Propositions don't pass!

That's the bad news, but here's the good news!

The Governor is not threatening to cut the boards, agencies and commissions sat on by close friends and family of your legislators. They will continue to operate as usual. We really need them too, like the board just for Asians from Pacific Islands or my favorite, the "California Board for the Status of Women". How else would women ever be sure of their status? This is why we must cut police and fire first!

Let me name just a few the boards never mentioned for cost cutting...The State of California Acupuncture Board, the the Office of Binational Border Health, the Biodiversity Council, California Council for the Humanities, California Digital Library, the Cemetery and Funeral Bureau, Colorado River Board of California, Career Resource Network, Medi-Cal Managed Care Health Care Options, Medi-Cal Provider, Medical Assistance Commission, Medical Board of California, Medi-cal Care Services, Mental Health, Office of Constitution Revision Commission, Dept. of Cyber Safety for Children, Delta Vision, Committee on Dental Auxiliaries, Dental Board of California, Department of Military and Aerospace Support, Department of Developmental Services, Disabled Veteran Business Enterprise Certification Program, Education Audit Appeals Panel, Office of the Secretary for Education, State Board of Education, Educational Facilities Authority, Bureau of Electronic and Appliance Repair, Emergency Medical Services Authority, Employment Training Panel, Energy Commission, Board for Professional Environmental Health Hazard Assessment, Office of Environmental Protection Agency (Cal/EPA) Equalization, Board of eServices Office, Fair Employment and Housing Commission, Fair Employment and Housing, Film Commission, Finance, Department of Financial Institutions, Office of the State Firearms Division, Governor's Committee for Employment of Disabled Persons Governor's Mentoring Partnership, .... and the list goes on and on. I haven't even covered a third of these departments, agencies, commissions and boards!

If the agency, board, commission, etc., has the same name as a federal agency, just remember you can never have too much oversight. Instead, take consolation in knowing that each one of these little fiefdoms is safe because they are indispensable. Without them how would you ever get through the day?

By the way, when you're on your way to vote next Tuesday, remember your Leaders of the Assembly and Senate now make $133,639. And rank-and-file lawmakers make $116,208, plus they get housing, food and car allowances that add to tens of thousands of dollars more. California has the highest paid state lawmakers in the country. Maybe we could do some cost cutting with a part-time legislature working for minimum wage? Just a thought.

With 97% of precincts reporting it appears that the "State Sovereignty Act" which was passed by the Texas State legislature and signed into law by Gov. This referendum was the final test that the "Sovereignty Act" had to pass, and it appears to have done so with relative ease. Possibly owing to the wide spread in the official tally, various civil rights groups have already begun filing lawsuits claiming voting irregularities.

Freedom of Speech

What does freedom of speech mean to you? Miss California, Carrie Prejean was recently in the news saying she was punished for exercising her freedom of speech on gay marriage and she said, "in America that is wrong."

During the Miss America pageant a gay-activist judge did try to punish Prejean for her religious view on homosexuality and while some of us may hold that as reprehensible, it was not illegal.

In the First Amendment government was prohibited from passing any law that would infringe upon our freedom of speech. However, there is still nothing in the law to prevent anyone from taking exception to what you have to say...even if its a judge in a beauty pageant who votes against you over your stated religious belief. It is not "wrong in America" - this is what [is right in America], its the right to speak our mind! The consequences that may follow come from the perspectives of people in our society, not from government and we should be darn glad nobody is regulating our personal perspectives!

I hope Miss California will now step down from her soap box. We've all heard how she suffered an injustice, but any more teary eyed whining and crying how she was wronged and that this just shouldn't happen in America....well, in my humble it should happen in America if we still have free speech. But, too much of the "poor me" stuff can only serve to undermine the sympathy and support she had when this story first broke.

Miss California has taken some heat for making her opinion public and thats too bad, but we do that here every day - no big deal. Lets move on.

Letter to Brits - Obama Could Limit Intel

The Washington Times is reporting this morning that the Obama administration has sent a letter to the british government signaling he would have to limit sharing of intelligence information if the High Court discloses details about the treatment of a former Gitmo detainee:

"Obama threatens to limit U.S. intel with Brits - Justice letter filed in court," by Eli Lake - Washington Times

** The letter says: "If it is determined that [her majesty's government] is unable to protect information we provide to it, even if that inability is caused by your judicial system, we will necessarily have to review with the greatest care the sensitivity of information we can provide in the future." *** The letter stands in contrast to President Obama's decision last month to release four memos from the Justice Department's Office of Legal Counsel providing fresh detail on the CIA's enhanced interrogation program. *** But, the U.S. letter points out: "Neither in [those four] memoranda, nor in any statements of the administration accompanying their release, was reference made to the identity of any foreign government that might have assisted the United States. ** "Given the declassification of the highly sensitive information contained in the memoranda, the fact that the president refrained from providing any information about foreign governments is indicative that the United States continues to preserve the secrecy of such information as critical to our national security." **

"This Just In!!!"The controversial house bill HR376 "Public Safety and Individual Responsibility Act" passed today by a hair thin margin, largely along party lines. The major points of contention revolve around new gun safety laws which would go into effect immediately and even are retroactive on certain "assault weapons".

New restrictions would include ban on the following weapons and accessories: High capacity magazines (7 rounds or more), semi automatic hand guns higher than 45 caliber, High powered (308 caliber) semi automatic rifles manufactured after 1950.

In addition to these bans increased restrictions would be placed on conceal weapons permits, gun registration and limitations on firearm purchases. Firearm manufacturers would no longer be protected from lawsuits from victims of gun violence. There will be a minimum 10 day waiting period on the purchase of any firearm, and a 2 day waiting period for ammunition, regardless of conceal carry permits, type of weapon etc. these stipulations in addition to increased taxes and other restrictions have caused wide spread protests by the NRA as well as other gun rights groups.

** JUDICIAL dispassion - the ability to decide cases without being influenced by personal feelings or political preferences - is indispensable to the rule of law. So indispensable, in fact, that the one-sentence judicial oath required of every federal judge and justice contains no fewer than three expressions of it: "I . . . do solemnly swear that I will administer justice without respect to persons, and do equal right to the poor and to the rich, and that I will faithfully and impartially discharge and perform all the duties incumbent upon me . . . under the Constitution and laws of the United States, so help me God." *** There are biblical echoes in the wording of that oath... ** (emphasis mine)

Itchy_Ears.JPGScratching Those Itchy Ears
by OneVike

Whenever I grab a book to read and sit on the couch, I can always count on my dog to come over and jump up and settle next to me. Just about the time I kick back to relax she lays her head on my lap and gives me that look. Oh how good she is at letting me know what she wants. It is something that will inevitably lull her into a calm relaxed state of mind until I think she has fallen asleep, that is, until I stop pampering her and pick my book to start reading. That's when she pushes her head towards me as she attempts to take my mind off my reading again. Oh, I'll usually indulge her for a bit longer, but if I really want to read my book, I just have to ignore her until she gets bored. Eventually she gets the message and gets down off the couch to go find someone else to scratch those itchy ears.

Now this article is not really about dogs, and it is not about the dermatological problems with their ears. What it is about, is the way humans, like dogs, are always looking for someone to satisfy their needs.

Mother's Survival Kit

flower2.jpg"A mother is a person who seeing there are only four pieces of pie for five people, promptly announces she never did care for pie." - Tenneva Jordan

My mother was a child and grew to maturity during The Great Depression, an earth shattering period punctuated and made worse by the death of her father. My grandmother had to learn the lessons of hardship and sacrifice quickly with three young children and four older boys to look after. In fact, she faced a lifetime of troubles by the time her own young life was snuffed out only three years later.

If you asked her children they would say the most important tools in their mother's survival kit were her music, her sense of humor, and her imagination...she loved the simple pleasures. When she grew angry or sad she sat at the piano, playing hymns and singing until she felt better. When her children were hungry she made their meager meals more satisfying by playing word games or telling stories. One time she woke them in the middle of the night just so they could go to a fire. When they got home they feasted on cinnamon toast in warm milk before returning to their shared bed.

Mama knew that her mother often went without food so her children could have more but her doing without was always masked and made bearable with music, laughter and small adventures. In fact, laughter through tears became my mother's own signature as she related the stories of her childhood to my brother and me. Now that look back I ery time we had fried chicken for dinner she always said she preferred the wing!

Sacrifice! We never noticed but it was the most precious tool in mom's survival kit.

Wishing all of you Moms a very special Mother's Day...from all of us at Post Scripts.

Is there anyone who hasn't lamented the sorry state of school systems in the United States? Is there anyone who hasn't noticed or pointed to the advantage that many home-schooled children seem to have? I know I've engaged in endless discussions about whether or not a poor home life or the lack of parental participation matters in a child's scholastic successes or failure. I've lamented the lack of disciplinary control that teachers have and I've derided the PC structures that seem to trump all other methods and considerations. You can imagine my delight when I discovered these discussions could end and American schools could once again become institutions of excellence in education. The question is...will America's children and parents demand what works and win or will the failing standards applied now be successfully defended and celebrated by the NEA with all of the usual accompanying excuses?

Recent findings about charter schools in Harlem show conclusively that the old model for educating students, a model that uses discipline and stresses the importance of attitude, a model that relies on a no excuses policy regarding attendance, homework and behavior has made a huge difference to children in Harlem. As David Brooks recently discovered and reported in his New York Times article, "The Harlem Miracle" the education gap that has separated white and black students was completely wiped out using a more conservative, traditional model:

The class (students) insisted that socialism worked since no one would be poor and no one would be rich, a great equalizer. The professor then said, "OK, we will have an experiment in this class on socialism."

"All grades will be averaged and everyone will receive the same grade so no one will fail and no one will receive an A."

After the first test the grades were averaged and everyone got a B. The students who had studied hard were upset while the students who had studied very little were happy.

But, as the second test rolled around, the students who had studied little studied even less and the ones who had studied hard decided that since they couldn't make an A, they also studied less. The second Test average was a D.

No one was happy. When the 3rd test rolled around the average grade was an F.

The scores never increased as bickering, blame, name calling, all resulted in hard feelings and no one would study for anyone else.

To their great surprise all failed.
The professor told them that socialism would ultimately fail.
The harder people try to succeed the greater their reward (capitalism)
but when a government takes all the reward away (socialism) no one will try or succeed.

Cure Seems Near Alzheimer's

Michigan Institute of Technology (MIT) researchers have trialled experimental medications on mice and found that they successfully inhibit a gene though to be a contributing factor to dementias such as Alzheimer's.

The drugs were found to regulate the ability of the brain to change in response to new experiences, allowing memory formation, and it is thought they could contribute to a cure for Alzheimer's.

A gene called histone deacetylase 2 (HDAC2) was found to be partly responsible for the effects of Alzheimer's in tests by MIT's Institute for Learning and Memory on mice in 2007, and the new drugs directly target the gene.

Susanne Sorensen, head of research for the Alzheimer's Society, said: "Alzheimer's ... is a physical disease of the brain that leads to the death of nerve cells. We need more research before we can know how helpful these results will be in developing treatments for this devastating disease."

Recent research by the Massachusetts General Hospital showed that vitamin E, along anti-inflammatory drugs, could slow the development of Alzheimer's disease.

Assemblyman Dan Logue, along with State Senator Sam Aanestad took a trip to Nevada to hear first hand from businesses that've fled California for the more "fair and business friendly confines" of that state. Aanestad's press release stated "Considering California's high taxes and heavy regulations, it's no wonder that Nevada--a state without many of our cumbersome issues--is benefiting."

oh Contraire, according to the Chico News and Review editorial. It states "the reality is that more business--including employees working for companies based elsewhere--is coming into California than is leaving." It refers to Aanestad and Logue's trip to Nevada as nothing more than a "dog and pony show." (I'm sure that if Aanestad and Logue were Democrats, the News and Review would label their trip as a "fact finding tour by progressive lawmakers constantly looking out for the betterment of California.)

But the two lawmakers are Conservatives, and went to Nevada armed with a report from the Legislative Exchange Council of the Washington D.C.-based non-profit group that includes state lawmakers and private sector policy advocates. That report titled "Rich States -Poor States includes an Economic Competitive Index, and ranks California 43rd nationally.

The report cites "California's high taxes, labor policies and a dysfunctional tort liability system as damaging to business." It also noted that "California's new tax increases are sure to make the state even less competitive in the future."

Oh, and by the way, it was interesting to note the top five states: Utah, Colorado, Arizona, Virginia and north Dakota. Joining California at the BOTTOM of the barrel? New Jersey, Maine, Rhode Island, Vermont and New York....all left-wing liberal states.

Kudos to both Aanestad and Logue for trying to make a difference. Hopefully, the information they gleaned can be passed on to others in our state legislature so they can all see the handwriting on the wall. Unfortunately, our state legislature is controlled by left-wing liberal democrats who have difficulty reading. That's why this state will continue languishing in the bottom of the barrel until it gets some new legislators who not only know HOW to read, but understand WHAT they read.

The Future Break Up of the United States of America

By Don Koenig

The United States of America is really 50 sovereign states in a union and that union can dissolve just like the Soviet Union did. This article will give some possibilities how that break up can occur but there certainly could be other scenarios for this to happen.

The major possibility is that after national elections socialist/liberal/progressive forces take control of the executive and legislative branches of government and soon thereafter the Supreme Court. They then would proceed to pass and uphold every sort of socialist legislation such as: hate speech laws, gun laws, immigration laws, socialized medicine, social activism and secular humanism agendas in schools and places of work, outlawing of home schooling, expanding social give-away programs, passing tax laws that burden the middle-class, implementing carbon restrictions and fees, increasing big brother/nanny state police powers and many other laws and regulations that subvert individual freedoms given under the Constitution of the United States for what they will claim to be the greater good of society.

by Jack Lee

Not long ago I wrote a story about several states passing legislation to reaffirm their areas of absolute sovereignty over the federal government. Now another state has joined them, despite an attempt by the Governor to block the legislation with his veto.

States rights and the matter of sovereignty has come up before the Oklahoma legislature that voted overwhelmingly in favor of a bill affirming their rights pre-empt federal authority.

The Hypocrisy Cops - Unwrapped

OldLadyCHA053.jpg by Tina Grazier

According to the hypocrisy cops on the left you arent a good Christian unless your an elderly, pastey faced woman with wire rimmed spectacles and a pill box hat, swinging a Bible and beating folk over the head with it! That's the gist of the dim-witted pronouncement yesterday by Mike Celizic, TODAYShow.com contributor. Seems a web site called "the dirty" got it's cyber claws on some "torrid" photos taken of Carrie Prejean when she was a teenager, and... hold on to your pill box....they show her nekkid back! OMG...the HYPOCRACY!!! She can't do stuff like that and call herself a Christian!

Miss Prejean responded:

** "I am a Christian, and I am a model. Models pose for pictures, including lingerie and swimwear photos. Recently, photos taken of me as a teenager have been released surreptitiously to a tabloid Web site that openly mocks me for my Christian faith. I am not perfect, and I will never claim to be." **

We're informed in the TodayShow.com story that a judge for the pageant said the photos would have disqualified her from competing...a revelation that's irrelevant to the theme of the story summed up in a single statement near the end:

** "The images may also hurt her status as a spokeswoman for conservative causes." **

Well....you hope!!!

This article is nothing more than a hit piece...an hypocrisy cop report!

The thing is, they H Cops wouldn't feel the need to shut Miss Pajean up if they weren't deeply worried...perhaps even frightened. Can you imagine that little Jimminy Cricket voice that keeps poking at them..."psssst...what if a lot of people agree with her and, worse yet, what if she's right?" ....Better not acknowledge that voice. Might have to change the way I run my my life. Might have to question some of my own opinions and strongly held beliefs. Might have to admit my own hypocracy on tolerance and hate. In fact I might have to change my mind...and my lifestyle...and that would mean confronting all of my friends and family. So, no!!! It's much easier to take the stubborn route, dig in my heels and play the Saul Alinsky game. I will continue in my quest to kill the message by destroying the messengers.

Many liberal progressives who claim to support free speech...don't. They are out to verbally stone this woman...a politically insignificant runner up in a beauty pageant. They are prepared to do the same to anyone who dares to speak an alternate message.

Democrats pretend to stand for diversity but the spokesmen and supporters of the party have abandoned the party anthem: "ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE (everybody sing)...duh duh duh da daaaaaa...all you need is love, love...love, love is all you need. Sheeeesh!

The hypocrisy Cops have been unwrapped...they deserve to be publically shunned...time we sent them directly to bigot jail. Don't buy it? Consider this:

** In 1983, best-selling shrink M. Scott Peck published his second book, People of The Lie. In it, he tells the stories of several patients whom he came to believe could be clinically diagnosed as "evil" - a character disorder he describes as "militant ignorance." According to Peck, an evil person prefers to psychologically destroy others rather than face his (or her) own faults, exhibits zero empathy towards his targeted scapegoat, and enjoys falsely labeling other people as evil. - Andrew Breitbart, Big Hollywood **...think about it.

A society that tolerates, even encourages, the silencing of voices will soon find everyone is silenced.

This famous quote is the basis for what is often heralded as our most fundamental inalienable right, and why so many Americans were offended when England's Home Secretary, Jacqui Smith (shown right), banned radio talk show host Michael Savage from travel to the misty isles.

Savage is well known for his provocative in your face style, frequently done as a sort of verbal assault on liberals, illegals and Islamic extremism. But, he has never advocated violence toward anyone. Sure, he's called those in his cross hairs, islamofacists, morons, race baiters, criminals and fools. He's mocked them relentlessly, but he has never crossed the line to threaten the welfare of anyone as far as I know.

So that's the reason they call it generation Y!

MONTANA DEFIES FEDS OVER RESTRICTIVE GUN LAWS

From http://www.panamalaw.org

Montana Governor Signs New Gun Law

Executive Summary - The USA state of Montana has signed into power a revolutionary gun law. I mean REVOLUTIONARY.

The State of Montana has defied the federal government and their gun laws. This will prompt a showdown between the federal government and the State of Montana. The federal government fears citizens owning guns. They try to curtail what types of guns they can own. The gun control laws all have one common goal - confiscation of privately owned firearms.

Montana has gone beyond drawing a line in the sand. They have challenged the Federal Government. The fed now either takes them on and risks them saying the federal agents have no right to violate their state gun laws and arrest the federal agents that try to enforce the federal firearms acts. This will be a world-class event to watch. Montana could go to voting for secession from the union, which is really throwing the gauntlet in Obamas face. If the federal government does nothing they lose face.

IS THE SECOND AMERICAN REVOLUTION NYE?

mob.jpgby Jack Lee

Is our democracy in need of a revolution or what? I'm talking mobs in the street... people carrying torches, armed with hot tar and bags of feathers! What's it going to take to make honest men and women out of our elected officials? It's not like we haven't been warning them! Still they keep right on fleecing us, they keep right on taking dives for special interests, they right on putting their self-interests ahead of the public interests, corruption and influence peddling is never far away among this crowd.

Here's another rascal exposed, the bad example of Congressman John Murtha is but one among many and if there is anything good about these rascals, it's that they will bring us closer to an outright revolution!

People are really fed up and this is no exaggeration.

Murtha's famous election line is, "If I'm corrupt, it's because I take care of my district." And corrupt he is, Murtha sneaked in an earmark for his brother, Robert "Kit" Murtha, so he could land a lobbying job at KSA Consulting in 2002 and 24 months later KSA clients profited from a $417 billion defense appropriations bill, not coincidentally Murtha is a key figure for defense appropriations.

Murtha has a long association with lobbyist Paul Magliocchetti of PMA. In the 2006 election year 11 of Magliocchetti's clients gave the congressman $274,649 in contributions. In the 2004 and 2002 election cycles, PMA and its clients gave Murtha a total of more than $515,000.

According to this news story, "Murtech received $4 million in Pentagon work, all of it without competition, for a variety of warehousing and engineering services. With its long corridor of sparsely occupied offices and an unmanned reception area, Murtech's most striking feature is its owner -- Robert C. Murtha Jr., 49. He is the nephew of Rep. John P. Murtha, the Pennsylvania Democrat who has significant sway over the Defense Department's spending as chairman of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee"

Murtha has provided $150 million for improvements to the Johnstown, PA airport that now bears his name. It has a spacious terminal, a new runway that can accommodate the largest passenger jets, a $14 million dollar tower, a $6 million dollar radar that only the local guard uses infrequently and most recently the airport is repaving a taxi lane to the tune of a few million. Trouble is, you could fire a cannon through the lobby at rush hour and never hit a passenger!

Fewer than 20 passengers take the 3 flights a day to DC and back. Each ticket costs you a $100 subsidy, this is equal to the cost of the ticket. Click here for the full story.

Energy Lobby Writes Blueprint for Energy Bill

“Lobbyists help Dems draft climate change bill - Lawmakers bristle at Bush parallel,” by Tom LoBianco – Washington Times

** Democratic lawmakers who spent much of the Bush administration blasting officials for letting energy lobbyists write national policy have turned to a coalition of business and environmental groups to help draft their own sweeping climate bill. *** And one little-noticed provision of the draft bill would give one of the coalition's co-founders a lucrative exemption on a coal-fired project it is building. *** …the sweeping climate bill Mr. Waxman and Rep. Edward J. Markey, Massachusetts Democrat and chairman of the panel's key environmental subcommittee, introduced at the end of March includes a provision that benefits Duke Energy Corp., a founding member of the U.S. Climate Action Partnership (USCAP), whose climate plan released in January the lawmakers have frequently called a "blueprint" for their climate legislation. **

ACORN Voter Fraud Charges – Nevada

ACORN (Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now ) has been charged with “voter registration fraud” in Nevada. The alleged charge filed by Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto states the organization’s policies and handbook required employees to sign up twenty new voters each or face being fired.

The Nevada story can be found HERE. A history and map of ACORN fraud cases can be found HERE.

With such a terrible record it behooves us to ask: Does ACORN receive federal money? They deny the claim on their web page but with a caveat:

**The Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now does not apply for nor does it receive any federal grants. *** ACORN has had contracts with other nonprofit organizations to perform work on projects which received federal grant support. For example, ACORN has received contracts to: Identify families eligible to receive food stamps and assist them to apply. ** Identify homeowners facing foreclosure and deliver them for housing counseling and loss mitigation services. ** Provide lead paint remediation services to households with children living in older neighborhoods. **

John Boehner (R-OH) begs to differ with ACORNS claim:

Pan Am/Delta Pilot Involved In Shooting

This is an old news story from 2007, but still one that has a good message to it worth repeating:

Plantation, FL -- Last week police were called to investigate an attempted armed robbery:

The 71-year-old retired Marine who opened fire on two robbers at a Plantation, FL, Subway shop late Wednesday, killing one and critically wounding the other, is described as John Lovell, a former helicopter pilot for two presidents. He doesn't drink, he doesn't smoke, and he works out everyday. Mr. Lovell was a man of action Wednesday night..

According to Plantation police, two masked gunmen came into the Subway at 1949 N.. Pine Rd. Just after 11 p.m. There was a lone diner, ...

Will President Obama Revive Military Commissions?

Captured enemy combatants presented a problem for the United States from the very beginning of the war. Since the world had not in previous wars dealt with enemies such as these, legal ground had not been firmly established. To his credit President Bush did everything he could to determine the appropriate legal methods and practices that his administration could use. Guantanamo was chosen specifically as a result of seeking an appropriate solution to the problem of housing captured enemy. When those methods were later questioned President Bush cooperated with Congress and the courts to address legal points and get them resolved quickly. Prior to lhis eaving office the process of convening Military Commissions to bring prisoners to justice while protecting national security information and concerns had begun. He did his best to secure as many loose ends as possible.

President Obama, while on the campaign trail, vowed to “reject Military commissions,” a declaration meant to stoke the outrage ginned up in the media over the purported rights of the non-citizen enemy combatants held at Guantanamo. It appears now that the difficult circumstances President Bush faced regarding these prisoners have come to roost on President Obama’s shoulders; the difficult situation may prompt him to reconsider his earlier position.

Tax Penalties On American Companies

"WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama vowed to "detect and pursue" American tax evaders Monday as he announced a plan to close tax loopholes and clamp down on overseas shelters.

The president said he wants to prevent U.S. companies from deferring tax payments by keeping profits in foreign countries rather than recording them at home. He also called for more transparency in bank accounts held by Americans in tax havens such as the Cayman Islands."

Socialism – New Word, Old Idea

socialismmilosluz071200007.jpgby Jack Benning

Socialism is a new word covering an old idea.

As far back as Plato and forward there have been different versions of the same concept that have thrived. The new word socialism, as we know it today, became established in eastern Europe by Karl Marx. It was then incorporated into the name of the Soviet Socialist Republic of Russia. It was then defined by The Soviet Socialist Republic of Russia when it was an atheistic country denying Christ and eliminating any who stood for Christ Jesus.

The international communists who would rule the world with law that make it illegal to pray to God want to own all that you have and dictate its use by the government, giving your property to whosoever the government decides, at their will, not by your will.

On my book shelf is a volume set of the 1952 Encyclopaedia Britannica. I keep the set around because most modern encyclopedias have changed many facts to fit into the politically correct opinions of the modern day Socialist elite.

Was Jesus a Socialist?

Cross1771857.jpgThe Sunday Sermon, by OneVike

It has been the aim of the Democrat party since they lost the Presidential election in 2004 to subvert the Christian doctrine with the claim that Jesus was a socialist. Their goal is to convince Christians that their Social agenda is morally equivalent with the teachings and life of Jesus Christ. Considering the lack of historical and Biblical knowledge most Americans have, it is not surprising that many have fallen for the misinformation on what Jesus taught (and for whom the teachings were given). These Biblical revisionists have become especially adept at cherry picking Scripture to suit their agenda. Hence, many have come to misunderstand the gospel of Christ by equating it with modern day Socialism.

My first point of contention with the idea that Christ was a socialist, is His teachings and the example of His life. Throughout the time that Christ lived with His disciples, He never worked. Instead he was dependent upon the charity and good hearts of those who surrounded Him. Now that is not to say Jesus was lazy or a bum either. Jesus was always about His Fathers business, and that business was the salvation of mankind. Nowhere in the Scriptures will you find Jesus telling His followers to rely upon anyone except those who were willing to hear the gospel and share what they had. If the people refused to hear the gospel or be charitable, Jesus told His disciples to rebuke them and go to others who were willing to hear the teachings, as when He sent them out by pairs. (Matthew chapter 10)

Presenting....America's deteriorating atmosphere!

Skyu10072911.jpgPosted by Tina

** There is little question that the current economic crisis poses a significant challenge for the environmental movement in this country. Previous Gallup research has shown that concern about global warming has diminished this year, and the research reviewed here shows clearly that Americans are more willing than ever to forgo protection of the environment if needed in order to ensure economic growth or the production of energy. With the economy as bad as it has been in recent memory, Americans' preferences have swung even more strongly in the direction of the economy over the environment. – Gallup **

Hmmm…that would explain this item:

** The problem with global warming, some environmentalists believe, is “global warming.” The term turns people off, fostering images of shaggy-haired liberals, economic sacrifice and complex scientific disputes, according to extensive polling and focus group sessions conducted by ecoAmerica, a nonprofit environmental marketing and messaging firm in Washington. Instead of grim warnings about global warming, the firm advises, talk about “our deteriorating atmosphere.” - NYT **

As with "terrorist attacks" and “man caused disasters” this would be just another liberal rose by any other name.

Orwell on Language

George Orwell, "Politics and the English Language," 1946

** Most people who bother with the matter at all would admit that the English language is in a bad way, but it is generally assumed that we cannot by conscious action do anything about it. Our civilization is decadent and our language -- so the argument runs -- must inevitably share in the general collapse. It follows that any struggle against the abuse of language is a sentimental archaism, like preferring candles to electric light or hansom cabs to aeroplanes. Underneath this lies the half-conscious belief that language is a natural growth and not an instrument which we shape for our own purposes. *** Now, it is clear that the decline of a language must ultimately have political and economic causes: it is not due simply to the bad influence of this or that individual writer. But an effect can become a cause, reinforcing the original cause and producing the same effect in an intensified form, and so on indefinitely. A man may take to drink because he feels himself to be a failure, and then fail all the more completely because he drinks. It is rather the same thing that is happening to the English language. It becomes ugly and inaccurate because our thoughts are foolish, but the slovenliness of our language makes it easier for us to have foolish thoughts. The point is that the process is reversible. Modern English, especially written English, is full of bad habits which spread by imitation and which can be avoided if one is willing to take the necessary trouble. If one gets rid of these habits one can think more clearly, and to think clearly is a necessary first step toward political regeneration: so that the fight against bad English is not frivolous and is not the exclusive concern of professional writers. **

Political Activism, the Media & You

Newsa01342.jpg by Tina Grazier

Activism…when one or several special interest groups are given an exclusive voice, when all other voices are continuously dismissed or devalued, the cause of freedom and equality is lost and tyranny gains a strong foothold. In America this eventuality should invoke alarm, but in today’s politically correct environment dissenting voices are easily dismissed as the extreme fringe. In the absence of honorable gate keeping, the media and activism emerge as a force to be confronted and deterred.

Reporters used to be scruffy lookin’ guys with disheveled clothing and that bleary-eyed look that accompanies the need for a good night’s sleep. Instead of a Blackberry they carried a dog-eared pad of paper and a stubby pencil sharpened with their pocket knives. Odd hours were their only friends. They drank too much…coffee all day long and something just a bit stronger in the wee hours. Well, that’s the Hollywood version, anyway. The image, however, does call up a fitting salute to the dedicated reporter of old. Stalwart men posessing a rabid desire for uncovering the facts, men with a penchant for getting at the truth, men who wouldn’t leave a thread dangling and begging to be picked up. In fact, disseminating information was the goal of journalism and we the people had a reasonable expectation that news men could be counted on to keep us well informed.

Eusebio Penalver…ever heard of him? In 2006 Mr. Penalver died and the US Congress took the occasion to honor and commemorate his memory:

FROM GOLDEN STATE- TO FOOL’S GOLD

FLAG1A.jpg

abruce.jpgFor a scant few moments this week, I felt that our state legislature had finally gotten the message. Leadership begins at the top and “painful” cost-cutting measures should start there. The reason for my jubilance came in the form of Senate Bill 44 which would’ve begun the elimination of those frivolous do-nothing boards and commissions which merely serve as “weigh-stations” with six figure salaries for termed out over-the-hill lawmakers. A companion bill was introduced in the Assembly.

I thought to myself “by golly, I do believe they’ve finally gotten it. They’re finally serious about really cutting unnecessary and wasteful spending.” The Integrated Waste Management Board would be just the beginning, then, like dominoes, the others would fall….saving the state literally millions of dollars. It would be the “blowing up of the boxes instead of just moving them around” promise made by Arnold if we would all just elect him as our new governor.

Then came the vote; Senate Bill 44 was defeated by the Senate Environmental Quality Committee, and Assembly Bill 1150 was killed by the Assembly Natural Resources Committee. Here’s how Steve Weigand of the Sacramento Bee put it: “Faced with the choice of saving between 2 and 3 million dollars a year, or preserving a potential AND LUCRATIVE POST-LEGISLATIVE RETIREMENT HAVEN, Democrat lawmakers in both houses torpedoed both bills.”

That action, folks, is tantamount to slapping every taxpayer in this state in the face. Our democrat-controlled legislature just doesn’t get it. In the wake of forced furloughs, layoffs, home foreclosures, etcetera…..our state legislature feels the solution is higher taxes on those who still have a job. And to rub salt in the wound, they want to extend the recent tax increases an extra two years….and they’re asking voters to approve that idea by voting yes on Proposition 1A.

Someone once told me California’s state legislature was a “laboratory for liberal ideas.” Frankly, I believe its time voters shut that laboratory down. Look what it’s done to the Golden State.
