When I first heard that Sarah Palin had announced she would step down as Governor of Alaska I thought that something terrible had happened. All of the 15 charges made against her have been dropped so that couldn't be it...so I went looking and after reading her statement I'm not so certain it's trouble.
Yes, Sarah has resigned. But in her address to the people of Alaska she mentions that as a lame duck governor she would be ineffective. She says remaining in office would be a terrible waste of both resources and time. She talked about how Alaska had the opportunity to become a state because of the providential forward thinking of William Seward saying, "he boldly looked 'North to the Future'" as a member of President Lincoln's cabinet. She talked about how Seward was ridiculed and mocked by opponents for his vision...they called it "Seward's folly." Was this a hint that, like Seward, she would not be dissuaded in her vision for America? I see a strong indication of an intention to run for high office, perhaps even president:
"...I am taking my fight for what's right - for Alaska - in a new direction."
"We need those who will respect our Constitution where government's supposed to serve from the Bottom Up, not move toward this Top Down big government take-over...but rather will be protectors of individual rights... And that is what I'm doing!"
"Remember Alaska, America is now, more than ever, looking North to the Future. It'll be good."
Whatever her plans i don't think we've heard the last of Sarah Palin. Her complete statement can be found on the governor's webpage.

I think I will look for one of those Palin 2012 bumper stickers.
So Tina or Jack, any guess as to whom she would chose as a running mate? And do you have any preferences, that is if you support her for the ticket.
Ever notice? When she’s angry, she starts talking a little faster, her eyes lids narrow a tad, and she talks through lips that are a bit closer together – and that faint frown of hers becomes almost permanent, yet a smile remains. She displayed all of those signs today. She didn’t say it in so many words, but if I don’t miss my bet, Sarah Palin just declared all-out war on the left – and believe me, she can wage that war like no other – as has been well demonstrated.
No, she’s not about to run off into seclusion – no, she isn’t tired of politics – and most definitely she isn’t going to join some third-party. This lady is a well-known fighter. She will gather resources, do research, write a book, and enlist an army to fight with her. When that army attacks, squish-GOP kooks and Democrats alike will run in fear, try to hide and cry for help from presstitutes and leftist media whores.
There are many on the right that think that Sarah Palin should go quietly off into the Alaskan outback to fish for salmon. Sorry about that – she will quite likely remain an Alaskan, and yes she’ll do a lot of fishing – a lot of it the political kind, and she’ll skin her political prey, barbeque and roast them – then serve them up for ridicule.
We’ve not seen the last of her – nor have those on the commie-left – all of us have only seen the beginning.
So sit back and wait – many of us will likely get a draft notice in the not distant future.
We have a population intent on fighting back hard – against criminal government, and its betrayal of America. The call to battle began weeks ago, and today as millions join in a revolution already well underway – an accomplish fighter just declared her intention to lead – full time.
Just my 2 cents...
This is going to be fun. For all those on the left, I say bring it on because this lady can handle anything thrown at her.
My favorite moment in her convention speech is when she looked over at the MSM newsreaders in attendance, and basically told them to buzz off. That was refreshing.
The crowd went wild.
We are all sick of the state run media. No need for them. We have Sarah, no filters, no pundits, no common-taters, we have Sarah speaking directly to us. Detractors, get out of the way. LET’S ROLL!!! America needs Sarah and Sarah needs our support. Get out yer check books. You betcha! The ‘Cuda is unleashed, look out!
This what William Kristol had to say in the Weekly Standard. Kristol is one of those Rhino Republicans that's ashamed of the right wing of the party, yet he has a few good things to say.

If Palin wants to run in 2012, why not do exactly what she announced today? It's an enormous gamble - but it could be a shrewd one.
After all, she's freeing herself from the duties of the governorship. Now she can do her book, give speeches, travel the country and the world, campaign for others, meet people, get more educated on the issues - and without being criticized for neglecting her duties in Alaska. I suppose she'll take a hit for leaving the governorship early - but how much of one? She's probably accomplished most of what she was going to get done as governor, and is leaving a sympatico lieutenant governor in charge.
And haven't conservatives been lamenting the lack of a national leader? Well, now she'll try to be that. She may not succeed. Everything rests on her talents, and on her performance. She'll be under intense and hostile scrutiny, and she'll have to perform well.
All in all, it's going to be a high-wire act. The odds are against her pulling it off. But I wouldn't bet against it.
God, I hope so. That would be comedy GOLD. ;)
There hasn't been a figure in American politics that attracts so much applause and disdain since....since...that other "hopeful" that the media, Democrat opponents, and wiseacres couldn't shut up about.

Steve Hayward, the corner, National Review:
**Newsweek, 1971, “Ronald Reagan’s Slow Fade,” ended with the judgment that “the somber truth is that Sacramento may mark the end of Ronald Reagan’s political road. . . ** After the 1976 campaign, Newsweek offered a reprise, “Into the Sunset": "The concluding line of Reagan’s convention speech—'There is no substitute for victory'—could also turn out to be a epitaph for his own political career." ** John Coyne wrote in some magazine called National Review that "Reagan seems somewhat out of step with the new political stirrings, a man very much of the Sixties. . . For a decade he has been a central symbol of everything that is best in what we call the conservative movement, and if his approach and his ideas are obsolete, then so are those many of us who believe in him. And it’s never much fun to be a middle-aged anachronism." **
The rest as they say...
"This is going to be fun. For all those on the left, I say bring it on because this lady can handle anything thrown at her."
That lady is a flake. She's been bouncing off whatever wall is to hand ever since the election. This would be the biggest bounce yet ... she should get herself a talk show. There is no hope of the White House.
Libby, considering the POS we have in office now, I would say even you have a chance.
I'm sorry, but I find all the hope and praise surrounding Palin in this thread to be bordering on delusional.
This is a woman who said she had good foreign policy skills because Alaska was close to Russia, whose husband was a member of a secessionist group for seven years, who couldn't name a single newspaper, who has been trashed by her former running mate, and now has decided that giving up on her commitment to Alaska is the best thing for the state.
She may still have a passionate base, but that base is not nearly big enough for her to even come close to winning an election. To most people, including Republicans, she is a national joke. The idea of her even running for president, especially after her bizarre and inexplicable resignation, is just absurd. The idea that she could win is just a disconnect from reality.
The latest information in this story is telling. As a private citizen Sarah can fight back...read to the end and the facts will reveal just how unethical and activist the MSM has become and how low down and dirty left blogs like HuffPo are

*I'm sorry, but I find all the hope and praise surrounding Palin in this thread to be bordering on delusional.*
Oh really? As delusional as over half the population who voted for a man that had absolutely zero executive experience and whose only foreign policy experience was living as a "child" in Jakarta, a bit of travel as a Senator, and picking Joe Biden, who had some unremarkable experience in FP, as a running mate?
Joe Bidens foreign policy profile can best be described as a polcy flag blowin in the wind. (see andrew McCarthy's piece in National Review)
Sarah Palin did have executive and foreign policy experience. As Governor in Alaska. She had experience in negotiating with government officials in Canada as well as with executives of big companies as she brokered a deal to bring much needed natural gas to the lower 48 states. This was a deal attempted (for twenty years) by those who had come before her. Her success demonstrates keen negotiating and diplomatic skills, a step or three above the rhetoric bloviating on issues that marked Obama experience.
All Presidents get to learn as they go to some degree, and all need advisors. But the Obama lovers hired a man whose "fame" grew out of his uncanny ability to read from a teleprompter with a certain flair...woo hoo! The man never had a job that wasn't government funded in one way or another other than writing his first book, and even that has been questioned by professionals that have made a strong case for a ghost writer, none other than William Ayers.
Delusional? Try looking in the mirror...while you're at it invite lefty MSM that FEARS her to do the same.
