Californians Could Learn a Thing or Two from Texas

"Texas created more jobs in 2008 than the rest of the states--combined." As of July, the state, which taxes neither capital gains nor income, had an unemployment rate of 7.5%, two points below the national average, while California's hovered at 11.5%, two points above. ** No wonder over half a million people flooded into Texas between 2000 and 2007. Meanwhile, 1.2 million residents left California in the same seven-year period. ** The bottom line? Tax-and-spend governance is as bankrupt as California's bank account. - WSJ

I lived in Texas a few times when I was a kid, it is truly a great state. Before some simple minded @#$% says "If you like it so much why don't you go back?" I am working on that very thing.Did any of you catch the Cowboy's beat the Titans Friday night? That new stadium is something else!

(Social Security and Health Care fixes)

How about those that need it get it and those that don't need it...don't! Try this on, it's not perfect, but it would help:

1. If your retirement wage after 62 exceeds $125,000 per annum, you are not elgible to recieve any social security retirement.

2. If your retirement income exceeds $100, 000, you are only elgible to receive 10% of your social security benefits.

3. If your retirement income exceeds $75,000, you are only elgible to receive 30% of your social security benefits.

4. If your retirement income exceeds $50,000, you are only elgible to receive 60% of your social security benefits.

5. If your retirement income is $30,000 or less, you are elgible to recieve 100% of your social security benefits.

Social security benefits were never designed to be universal health care or a full retirement for everyone and this is why it's going broke. It was a stop gap born of needs made apparent in the Great Depression.

Next.

1 No licensed insurance company may be denied access to a state to sell health care insurance, so long as it meets the minimum capital requirements to protect payouts. This is to encourage competition. And further, no state shall mandate specific terms of coverage, this shall be negotiated between the insurance company and the insured in order to avoid unecessary coverage and reduce costs.

2. Persons with a pre-existing condition may be covered by Medicare for catatrosphic health care, if they are denied coverage by three or more private insurance companies, or if their premium exceeds 50% or more above the average premium for their age group.

3. Insurance companies that deny coverage when coverage is authorized will be fined an amount equal to 10 times the payout.

4. Insurance company representatives that attempt remove a person from coverage because of a serious condition shall be guilty of a felony.

5. Private health insurance may not be cancelled for a late payment until the insured is 60 days late in paying their premium. During this time the insured are not entitled to benefits, except for emergency care, but can be reinstated for payment.

Next, no person, for lack of money or insurance coverage, shall be denied medical care for life sustaining treatment. All other care up to the receiving hospital, if they wish to treat a patient or not. Medicare shall cover such emergency costs ONLY when no other financial remedy exists. However, persons shown by pattern and design to be abusing the emergency room services for less than emergency conditions shall be charged with a felony punishable by not less than 1 year in prison or the country jail. Same goes for ambulance services.

Hehehe, sorry. I really love my new home in TEXAS. I lived in California for 58 years of my life, and for the last 20 all I could think about was, "Should I move?" Well I did and me and the MR could not be happier.

Hey Toby, me and my husband went to the George Strait and Reba McEntire concert this summer and that place is amazing. But don't expect these Charger fans to root for the Boys though. Some things are just too ingrained to change.

You have some great ideas for Social Security and health insurance.Unfortunately, common sense is rarely used by our politicians.
