Investigate Prisoner Abuse in Gitmo, but first...

We should immediately and vigorously investigate all charges of mistreatment of alleged terrorists held by us in Gitmo, Iraq or wherever we were involved, right after the far older, far worse and far more documented incidents of torture that is still ongoing in countries like North Korea, Mexico, Vietnam, Libya, Palestine, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Cuba, Venezuela, Syria, Russia, Uganda, Saudi Arabia, Mozambique, Chad, Sri Lanka, India, Camboida, Somalia, Zimbabwe, Angola, Malawi, Rwanda, Colombia, Chile, Sudan, Iran, China, etc., are all prosecuted and held accountable!

Until this happens we should close the book on such an absurd, counter-productive endeavor and move on to deal with other more important problems.

No.

Until we remove the splinter from our own eye, we have no business pointing out the stick in others'.

(Yes, I know that's a misquote. But I think it's equally true.)

Jack! I am surprised! I did not think I would ever have to chastise you as I did Nick!

"Jimmy down the block does it! Why can't I?!"

Tsk. That you would evidence any such schoolyard morality!? I am disappointed.

But don't you worry. Holder has done just the very least that he might do. It continues to go on along these lines and Cheney and Rumsfeld will both die in their beds.

The sudden interest (again) in these investigations, and the act of releasing information to the press, is a move to counter the effect that the failed healthcare debacle has had on the President's approval ratings. He has lost his "fans" from the far left, Bush hating, liberal base. This is red meat served up as appeasement...I hope they choke on it.

Obama would be wise to consider his own term as president and those who will come after him. The investigation will create paranoia or at least extreme caution in the intellegence world and that will put our country and our troops at greater risk. This will be another strike against him and will backfire.

We will be watching him and his "overseas contingency operation." It is all his now. The war will include incidents that he will have to answer for and consequences he will have to bear. War...yes I will call it by it's right name...is hell; terrible things happen in war.

It is nonesense to say we cannot take action or hold a position until/unless we clean up our own act. We are human beings not automatons; perfection can never be achieved. Motivation and intent are alsoimportant tools in determining human rights issues and more effective in the process of defending our nation when attacked. I know our intention is to do as little harm to innocent people as possible and to help them whenever and however we can. I also know the intent of the enemy is to murder, frighten and destroy us and our way of life. An defensive effort of this proportion and magnitude is bound to include tragedy, error, and mistakes. ALL of it would stop if the enemy would turn away from their intention and operations. America is not an aggressor; President Bush is an honorable man...and the people who work to defend our deserve the benefit of the doubt...especially as long as this war is raging on.

Or maybe we're pursuing it because it's the right thing to do?

"Obama would be wise to consider his own term as president and those who will come after him."

But Obama is the one who wants to drop the whole thing. He's playing it safe. If you ask me, he is being a coward on this issue.

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions.
