The Source of American Prosperity

The trouble with the current administration is that they believe their ideas are the solution to our problems; what they fail to realize is that the American people are the solution.

After years of solutions from the left, too many Americans have lost the grit and determination of past generations. They have become a collection of "have nots". Some no longer feel the sting associated with dependency in adulthood and easily buy into the hope and change fraud of government solutions to their predicaments. Our recent financial woes have made productive people, the "haves", weary and worried about a future with even more of the same. They are reaching deep within themselves, gathering together to muster that grit and fight for the right simply to be productive and to determine their own fates. These Americans know that government didn't build this nation; the people did. They know that the bridges, roads, and dams of the New Deal era were built on the backs and from the pockets of Americans. Democrats like to credit themselves but the aquired revenue came from private citizens and the labor did too. That revenue would have been put to more economical use had the projects been done privately. The unintended consequence of the big government idea was that ten years later, in 1939, the unemployment rate was still staggering at around 20%. Jobs that became available under the New Deal were temporary. The overall economy stagnated under the burden of those heavy taxes and opportunity remained just out of reach for many Americans.

This administration seems bent on repeating the mistakes of the past. Turns out a Newer Deal isn't change at all; it's a disaster. Without a vibrant private sector there can be no lasting or vibrant economic recovery. Without a solid recovery there will be insufficient opportunity. Without a vibrant economy government solutions don't have a prayer of working. One such program is already starting to fray at the edges:

About 25 percent of borrowers helped under the administration's massive foreclosure prevention plan have already fallen behind on their new mortgage payments, according to government data that raise new questions about the program's effectiveness. The delinquency figures reflect the latest troubles of the program, known as Making Home Affordable. - Washington Post

self reliance.jpegJohn F. Kennedy, Ronald Reagan, and George W. Bush cut tax rates for individuals and businesses; vibrant economies followed with plenty of jobs and new opportunities. The blessing to the nation was that Government revenues increased also. The military could be sufficiently funded and other vital needs met. Under these circumstances a blessed people begin to feel generous and give more to local and national charities and foundations. Everybody wins and America is strong.

pr25498.jpegThe only good way to create jobs and build a thriving economy is to unleash the power of the American people. They need only confidence about the future. So Mr President, the answer is to give the American people a long leash; set them free to invest, create, expand, and produce. Think of it! Good jobs and more certainty about the future will give most homeowners the ability to make their mortgage payments. Provided, of course, that government doesn't also keep or make ridiculous banking and lending laws, and that's where your intellect and commitment to serve come in. Keeping laws and regulations simple and easily understandable would help the people in their efforts. It would prevent fraud and abuse and make it easier to discover cases of fraud or abuse. Limited government with adequate, but non-restricting, regulation works.

Power should be vested in the people, the true source of American prosperity.

Power? Confidence? Honey ... cash is what it takes. Or credit.

BushCo economic polices have got the nation's banks hoarding both. Their survival depends upon it.

So ... the MSM is not interested in the problem ... but it is THE problem. If we are not going to have a consumer economy, what sort of economy are we going to have? You think on it.

"BushCo economic polices have got the nation's banks hoarding both."

Bush is gone baby gone...I'm beginning to think you are too. It is Obamanomics that has money sitting on the sidelines, and people out of a job or waiting to see how many ugly shoes drop before they move a toe. BIG government (Obamanomics)is not the answer.

"If we are not going to have a consumer economy, what sort of economy are we going to have?"

Why your hearts desire honey...repressed, depressed people standing in bread lines while the party elite jet sets and parties like it 2099. You think on that.

Banks are objects. Bank owners survive and prosper, as do all citizens, when we are free to work and participate in commerce and when we are not overburdened by oppresive taxation and regulation. Sensible supportive regulation would be helpful. Banks should never be forced to make bad loans.
