Trying to do away with free parking in California? Yep, they are at it again. The sponsor of this wacky bill is Sen. Alan Lowenthal-D (shown at left) from the 27th district.
He says he is just trying to give businesses and even government offices more "flexibility" so they don't have to provide too much free parking as may now be required by local statute. There are monetary incentives if people opt to take up his offer of "flexibility" and this is the extortion twist government so often does to get compliance. They're either offering you money or threatening to take it away.
In other words, this democrat wants you to take the bus. In his thinking it will reduce green house gases and combat...you guessed it, global warming! We are being hammered relentlessly by law makers trying to force their global warming frenzy on us by any and all means whenever they can...even if it means taking away your parking space at the DMV.

Jack,
Right now, businesses in California are required to provide parking for the public. In downtown Chico it is based on square footage, with retail and services having slightly different requirements. Business leaders are always complaining about it. It seems that this legislation would remove that requirement.
Why do you oppose it?
Mark
Yes, it is true that there is a requirement to provide x many spaces depending on the size of the business, but that's not really what this is about. The Senator is dangling a carrot (your tax money), and using the pretext of flexibility when the real agenda is about pushing people toward using a municiple bus system. He could care less about the plight of business, that's just not his track record. His record is as a greenie, a far left liberal and he's trying to put one over on us and instead of just being up front and honest about his real agenda, he's using this so-called "flex" gimmick. I wish I could say I figured this out all by myself but this has come from his loyal opposition and in response to the critics Lowenthal has more or less admitted that is his agenda and gives his own bill a low chance of passage.
Thanks for the answer.
