State Senate President Pro Tem Perata Carjacked

State Sen. Perata unharmed in carjacking, by Henry K. Lee, San Francisco Chronicle

Oakland -- State Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata was carjacked at gunpoint from his state car in North Oakland Saturday. Perata, 62, of Oakland was unharmed in the incident, which happened at about 1:45 p.m. as he was stopped in his state-leased red 2006 Dodge Charger at a red light at 51st Street and Shattuck Avenue.

One site had this to say about the vehicle:

The 2006 Dodge Charger is a fun drive… Our biggest concern while testing Chargers…was how readily we settled into an 80-mph cruise.

My first thought? Why is this man driving a red Dodge Charger...on our dime...and in Oakland for heavens sake?!!!

Seems to me this car is the perfect target for a carjacker.

So there I was walkin along 51st Street at Shattuck in Oakland when this dude practically runs over me in a red Dodge Charger.

I was ticked so I drew down on the dude and he just hops outta his car and tosses me his car keys and runs off. So I thinks, "Morris, ist is yo lucky day, he apparently don wan his car no mo!"

Morris, you are perhaps a man of conscience after all:

Richmond police have found the car that was carjacked at gunpoint from State Senate President Pro Tem Don Perata in North Oakland, authorities said today. The red 2006 Dodge Charger was found near the corner of Wiswall and Colette drives near the Hilltop Mall in Richmond at about 11 p.m.
