DECLARE WAR OR DON'T GO
by Jack
I will never support another protracted war like Iraq unless it is a declared war!
We should have declared in 2003 and we should have declared on Al Qaeda after 9/11. A declaration of war assigns responsibility on Congress and it allows us to use all our resources to win swiftly and decisively. All this political wrangling that leads to half measures is stupid and it’s brought us nothing but trouble. If Congress doesn't have the guts to back up our military with CLEAR conditions as may be set forth in a declared war then I guess it wasn't all that important and we don't need to go there.
Next, as for the Americans now whining how they have been damaged by the Patriot Act, how about showing us where your rights have been violated and it's either there or it's not. I don't want to hear how you "feel" your rights have been damaged. "Feel" and "fact" are two different things for a reason. The same test of fact v fiction goes for government. In this case they have shown us "fact" how the Patriot Act works, who it targets and why. I'm ok with it and if it is ever abused by someone, then we punish the abuser not the tool that was designed to help us. That is basic, smart and it is how we win!

YES!!! I fear, however, you are too well reasoned in your thinking for some minds...LOL.

YES!!! If congress doen't have the guts to stand by their declared position they STINK as leaders and should be tossed out on their Butts...ears are too easy!
We better PRAY that "we don't need to go there...guessing and hiding just don't cut it. Just ask the families of those who perished on 911 because one president wouldn't "go there".
Good to hear that fired up voice again Jack...how're the orchards doing this year?

Tina, thank you for your support. The "JDL" is the Jewish Defense League. I'm a big fan of their survival philosophy.
When threatened by zealots, be they Nazi's or Islamic's, they vow to fight to the death with everything they have, rather than march quietly into a gas chambers. Their motto: "Never again". You might say they are a very "pro-active" force when it comes to dealing with their enemies and they know how fight fire with fire.
Here's their website: http://www.jdl.org/
Last thinigs....you asked about our walnuts. The walnut crop for NORCAL looks really good. Very limited signs of blight, the weather has been great and blooms are abundant.
More of the new "Howard" variety are coming on line this year and you are going to love the Howards. These are a very meaty and tasty nut loaded with heart healthy things like the phytochemical, ellagic acid, that can actually lower your cholesterol and provide you with anti-cancer omega 3 fatty acids. They are cholesterol-free and very low in sodium and for those of us with high blood pressure it is a grreat. Walnuts in general are a super source of vitamins and minerals, like vitamin E, potasium and selenium, not to mention the fiber value. We have about 80% Howards and 20% Chandlers.
Walnuts are really catching on in the health industry big time and the supply can't keep pace with the demand. We're getting about $1 a pound. This is because its one of those "super foods" you really need and the best part is they really taste good too!
Raw walnuts are the best, but toasted still gives you plenty of the good stuff!
If you just eat a couple of handfuls a week that's all you need. Great for snacks or for diets and there is my walnut ad! lol But, it's all true.

Personally, I would prefer something much different, and easier to accomplish.
Based off of recent US history I would prefer wars fought in relative secrecy.
Dont declare war, that wont do any good. Simply ask the American people to pretend like one isnt going on.
It really shouldn't be too hard. This war effects relatively few people outside of volunteers.
Just go back to your episodes of "Desperate Housewives" or "Monk" and go about your buisness.
Treat war like you would the launching of a Space Shuttle. "Yeah its interesting, but I really don't know enough about the subject to have any strong opinions on it."
Then our military could fight a war, with all of the adaptations, mistakes, and horrors that are involved, without having to worry about some intellectual midget, long on "feelings" and short on experience and practicality insisting that their opinions be valued to the same degree as those fighting the war.
I have yet to see a liberal try and take over the controls of a shuttle because they thought they knew more about space flight.
So from a logical and legal perspective, I think your point is valid. From my personal experience Im afraid I would prefer apathy.

I had feeling it was the Jewish Defense League and I too am a fan. I adopted their motto for myself with respect to war protesters...never again will I tolerate their garbage and hate.
Thanks for the walnut report.

Nick you are brilliant and very much appreciated.
I just wish I could find a way to make the voices of those who support you completely overshadow the nuts who don't.
In my universe mouths wouldn't work unless 1. they knew what they were talking about or 2. they could admit when they don't.
