OK…How About Abortion?

Posted by Tina

Ever since California voters became the first in the nation to legalize medical marijuana in 1996, the state has faced unyielding opposition from the federal government, which insists it has the power to prohibit a drug it

considers useless and dangerous. That could all change with the next presidential election. ** Sen. Barack Obama of Illinois has become an increasingly firm advocate of ending federal intervention and letting states make their own rules when it comes to medical marijuana. - S.F. Chronicle

The left never acts on principle...only emotion. If letting the states decide is good enough for medical marijuana why not abortion?

Very good point Tina.

The Supreme Court actually ruled on this matter and ruled against State's Rights in regards to Medical Marijuana, but they did it knowing what the new precedent could do in abortion cases.

Personally I prefer state's rights. If a state wants to legalize marijuana or outlaw abortion, they should have the ability to do so without the feds telling them what to do. People who prefer to live differently can move to a state that matches their politics.

I believe that, if elected, Obama would drop his appeal for medical marijuana, knowing full well that the precedent would also allow states to outlaw abortion. Obama right now is able to promise the world to his supporters, but it's obvious he'll renege every promise if he ever makes it to office. Not that they'll be sharp enough to notice.

Dane, I prefer States Rights also and feel very strongly that the founders had this in mind when they wrote the Constitution. Had they wanted the fed to have ultimate power they would have written a much different document.

I think you're right about Obama dropping the med marijane rhetoric if elected. He knows the legislation will probably never make it to his desk.

This man blew it in my mind. He has skills that could one day make him a good candidate...at least for progressives. Right now he lacks...what was that word?...gravitas (sp?).
