The Energy Front

The next president will make decisions that will have broad consequences for the future of the American people…energy is in the forefront of this challenge.

by Tina Grazier

We are definitely living in unstable and confusing times. War and natural disasters challenge our resources and resolve and economic challenges follow as a natural course. Deep division has come to the forefront of politics, as

it has so many times in the past, and we the people must decide the best way to move forward. In November we will choose our next president. The whole world awaits our decision. The choice we make may well mean the difference between a stable world and one that becomes ever more oppressive.

According to the left the world hates America but the evidence given is anecdotal (are they projecting?) and not at all conclusive. In fact the opposite is true. Italy and the Brits have just moved in a more conservative direction. We have seen the conservatives win in Germany and France as well. The times call for discipline and strength and for positive economic proposals. The people of other free nations have chosen a more conservative path….we’d be wise to do the same.

Energy will top the list of concerns in the coming election. Indeed the democrats have begun the attack on “republican policies” as the reason for high oil prices. Last week I posted Nancy Pelosi’s incredibly stupid statement regarding energy prices. One of her fellow democrats, Sen. Debbie Stabenow, continued with the liberal talking point of the week:

"Now it is a crisis for every American family," the Michigan senator said in the Democrats' weekly radio address. She called the current energy situation "a crisis that doesn't just affect us at the pump, but also raises the prices of groceries, increases our home heating bills and squeezes small businesses trying to keep their heads above water." ** "Republicans want more drilling, more consumption and more tax giveaways for the big oil companies," she said. "Democrats say that those are exactly the policies that got us into this mess to begin with." ** ** "This fight won't be easy," Stabenow said, urging the public to pressure the GOP. "The President and his oil buddies have gotten used to the spoils of plunder, and they won't give up without a fight."

The democrat proposal for bringing energy prices down:

Ending billions of dollars in tax breaks for big oil companies. ** Forcing the oil companies to do their part by investing some of their profits in clean and affordable alternative energy. ** Protecting the American people from price gougers and greedy oil traders who manipulate the market. ** Temporarily stopping the diversion of oil to the national Strategic Petroleum Reserve, which is already 97 percent full. ** Standing up to the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and other oil-producing nations that are working together to keep oil prices high.

Please notice that the dem policy isn’t a policy at all but rather a declaration of emotional war waged for VOTES. They will “force, protect, and stand up to” those greedy folks that hurt the poor oppressed Americans. They will demand things of oil companies that oil companies are already doing. How brilliant is that! While democrats play politics and diddle with punishing oil companies (which will actually just punish consumers and investors) the rest of the world is taking matters more seriously. In Russia the official position (from Putin’s top environmental policy guy) is as follows:

"We don't plan to limit the use of fuel for our industries... Energy must not be a barrier to our comfort. Our emerging middle class demands lots of energy and it is our job to ensure a comfortable supply." Yes, Russia has said to he** with Al Gore as Europeans in general are building more coal burning power plants to supplement their nuclear energy use. It seems everyone in the world gets it…except DEMOCRATS. They seem to prefer the continuing “crisis”.

At this crucial juncture America is facing another big challenge to our energy woes…and of course, it is tied to terrorism. Consider recent developments that have emerged from the data retrieved from a FARC computer:

“Oily Chavez Oozes Beyond Venezuela,” by Investor’s Business Daily

Oil spiked $4 Friday on new evidence of Venezuela's deep involvement in terrorism. There's no glossing over such news: Hugo Chavez intends to destabilize the region. The U.S. will need to take action. ** After poring over some of the 10,000 documents captured from the computer of dead FARC terrorist Raul Reyes, killed in a raid on March 1, U.S. intelligence officials are convinced that Chavez's involvement is deeper than anyone realized, according to a front-page story by the Wall Street Journal. "There is complete agreement in the intelligence community that these documents are what they purport to be," a U.S. official told the Journal. ** The oil market understood the implications of this: The U.S. probably would be forced to declare Venezuela a state sponsor of terror and then end Venezuela's role as a top oil supplier, as required for other rogue states such as Iran. ** With global oil supplies scarce, and Venezuela accounting for 12% of U.S. oil imports, the U.S. economy would feel the effects. ** So long as America buys Venezuelan oil, Chavez will have the money to help FARC eventually destroy Colombia. He won't stop on his own, and the clandestine nature of his aid suggests he'll seek new ways to do it on the sly. ** It's part of Chavez's strategy to use his petrodollars to take over the hemisphere — or at least become its main power broker. ** Thus far, the open side of Chavez's quest is clear. Using democratic elections, Chavez seeks to get Latin leaders elected who will be his vassals. He does so by secretly buying off leftist political parties, and manipulating elections and the minds of poor voters. He has helped put socialist cronies in power in Ecuador, Bolivia and Nicaragua. Now, he has his eyes on his next prize: U.S. ally El Salvador. ** Bad as that is, the new FARC computer documents show an even darker side: Any nation that resists his charms, anti-U.S. rhetoric and oil cash, gets destabilized. ** Colombia may be the scariest example of Chavez's destabilization efforts, but others are threatened, too — including Mexico and Peru, two stalwarts who have no interest in being Chavez's puppet states. It's significant that Mexico's and Peru's ambassadors were recently seen with President Bush at the Council of the Americas Wednesday pleading to Congress for free trade for their neighbor Colombia, whose economic success is as vital to them as their own. ** Meanwhile, the raid that killed Reyes also revealed the presence of Mexican operatives in Colombia believed to be in training to destroy Mexico's oil pipelines, which supply much of America's oil.

Please…arm yourselves with information…information is more helpful than all the political soundbites in the world…and remember to vote wisely in November.
