CLEVELAND - A man at the center of a voter-registration scandal told The Post yesterday he was given cash and cigarettes by aggressive ACORN activists in exchange for registering an astonishing 72 times, in apparent violation of Ohio laws. "Sometimes, they come up and bribe me with a cigarette, or they'll give me a dollar to sign up," said Freddie Johnson, 19… - New York Post

Local 2 investigates dead voters. The push to register voters for this year's presidential election is breaking records. More than 1.9 million people are registered to vote in Harris County alone. But how many of the people listed on the voter roll are actually eligible to cast a ballot? Investigative reporter Amy Davis shows you how hundreds of voters could sway this year's election -- voters who are not even alive. – Local 2 News (Houston)

CROWN POINT, Indiana -- More than 2,000 voter registration forms filed in northern Indiana's Lake County by a liberal activist group this week have turned out to be bogus, election officials said Thursday. The group -- the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN -- already faces allegations of filing fraudulent voter registrations in Nevada and faces investigations in other states. – CNN

Registrars across the land are working feverishly to assure that our elections are legal and all votes cast are valid. I think it is worth noting that the party being supported by this activity is the Democrat party and specifically Senator Barack Obama. The media certainly is avoiding this obvious association. If a similar association with the Republican Party were engaging in intimidation tactics to pressure people into registering several times and telling them to vote for McCain it would be considered a major scandal. Democrats on the Hill would be marching out to the microphones to ask for investigations and hearings. The media would be hammering the republican party with hourly screeds. What will it take to make people notice the inequality that this creates in our land?

You and I can’t walk into a loan office and be assured of a sweetheart loan with “special” financing perks but the Democrat Senator from Connecticut, Chris Dodd, was able to do just that according to a former Lehman Brothers CEO in under oath testimony last Monday:

Dodd and Countrywide - WSJ Editorial

Former Lehman Brothers CEO Dick Fuld was under oath Monday when he was grilled on Capitol Hill about his role in the current financial meltdown. But if Members really want to understand the credit mania, they should also call Chris Dodd.

The Connecticut Senator has been out front denouncing the "companies that form the foundation of our financial markets," for "their insatiable appetite for risk." He has also decried "reckless, careless and sometimes unscrupulous actors in the mortgage lending industry" and he has proclaimed that "American taxpayers deserve to know how we arrived at this moment." To that end, we propose he take the stand -- under oath. *** Former Countrywide Financial loan officer Robert Feinberg says Mr. Dodd knowingly saved thousands of dollars on his refinancing of two properties in 2003 as part of a special program the California mortgage company had for the influential. He also says he has internal company documents that prove Mr. Dodd knew he was getting preferential treatment as a friend of Angelo Mozilo, Countrywide's then-CEO. *** While most of the company was aggressively lending to risky borrowers and off-loading those mortgages in bulk to Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, Mr. Feinberg's department was charged with making sure those who could influence Fannie and Freddie's appetite for risk were sufficiently buttered up. As a Banking Committee bigshot, Mr. Dodd was perfectly placed to be buttered. *** …Mr. Dodd got "a float down," which means that even after he had a preferred rate, when the prevailing rate dropped just before the closing, his rate was reduced again. Regular borrowers would pay extra for a last-minute adjustment, but not FOAs. (friends of Angelo) *** "They were aware of it because they were notified and when they went to the closing they would see it," Mr. Feinberg says, adding that he "always let people in the program know that they were getting a very good deal because they were 'Friends of Angelo.'" *** All of this matters because Mr. Dodd was one of those encouraging Fan and Fred to plunge into "affordable housing" loans made by companies like Countrywide. *** One indicator of his influence is the $165,400 in campaign contributions -- more than to any other politician -- that Fan and Fred have given him since 1989, according to the Center for Responsive Politics.

He was also one of the voices that objected to repeated calls for reform. Why is he not being grilled by Congress and why is this behavior not being questioned in headlines all across America? Could it be that elite democrats are held to a different standard than "other" Americans? It's something that should worry all Americans.

There you are at home seperating your cans and bottles and tossing your vegetable peelings into the compost pile. You walk or ride a bike whenever you can. You’re looking for ways to save so you can dump your gas guzzler and you’ve been doing research to find the best alternative; something to drive that’s affordably green on a pretty tight budget. Every Saturday you take a burlap sack in tow to clean up an area of the community that your company has adopted and every Thanksgiving you make out checks to organizations that support a clean environment. You dutifully remember to return those plastic store bags to the bin outside of the supermarket and wash and re-use the few plastic bags you keep till they fall apart. Then one day you’re sorting through the mail and discover a brochure from the WWF. Remembering it as one of the organizations you've donated to over the years you open it to discover an incredible offer:

Join us on a remarkable 25-day journey by a luxury private jet. *** Touch down in some of the most astonishing places on the planet to see the top wildlife, including gorillas, orangutans, rhinos, lemurs and toucans. Explore natural and cultural treasures in remote areas of South America, the South Pacific, Southeast Asia and Africa. *** To reach these remote corners, travel on a specially outfitted private jet that carries just 88 passengers in business-class comfort. World-class experts – including WWF's director of species conservation – will provide a series of lectures en route, and a professional staff will be devoted to making your global adventure seamless and memorable.

You realize the price tag for this adventure starts at $64,950.00 per person...ouch, just a bit pricey! So you decide to do some investigating on the web. Soon you discover the pricetag is only part of the “pain” associated with this offer. According to the post “Classic Green Hypocracy” on the blog, “Planet Gore,” - Drew Thornley, NRO:

This is the very same WWF that says “the current growth in [carbon dioxide] emissions must be stopped as soon as possible” and that blames Americans for emitting 21 percent of global CO2 emissions even though the U.S. accounts for only 5 percent of the global population. *** So how does this fantasy trip square with the WWF’s alarmist rhetoric? *** Using the carbon footprint calculator on the WWF’s own web site, the 36,800-mile trip in a Boeing 757 jet will burn about 100,000 gallons of jet fuel to produce roughly 1,231 tons of CO2 in 25 days — that’s the equivalent of putting about 1,560 SUVs on the road during those three-plus weeks and that doesn’t even include emissions related to local air, ground and water transport and other amenities.

FOX News offers a few more details with, “Five Star Green Hypocracy,” by Steve Malloy. Mr. Malloy let’s you in on what the WWF expects from those of us down here on the ground livin life in the cheap seats and provides some new information about those carbon offset schemes:

The group’s web site states that “It clearly is time for all Americans to roll up their sleeves, to take steps to reduce emissions, to prepare for climate change, and to encourage others to do the same.” *** Maybe, you’re thinking, the WWF plans to makes its trip “carbon neutral” by purchasing carbon offsets — after all, the group does offer a carbon offset calculator on its web site under the heading “Join WWF in our mission to save life on Earth.” But neither the trip brochure nor the WWF web site mentions that any offsets will be purchased — and there seems to be good reason for that. *** According to the WWF’s calculator, it would cost in excess of $44,000 to offset the carbon emissions from the jet travel alone. *** Then there’s the September 2008 report from the General Accounting Office which concluded that the carbon offset market lacked credibility. The Republican leader of the congressional committee requesting the report commented that “that the lack of standardization of offsets and fundamental problems assessing and verifying credibility, leave consumers in the dark and exposed to waste, fraud, and abuse.” Former Clinton official Joseph Romm wrote on his blog that, “the vast majority of offsets are, at some level, just rip-offsets.”

"OK...so, just how important is this sustainability thing?" you begin to wonder. I mean...you probably don’t begrudge anyone (who has the bucks) a trip like this. It sounds wonderful! But you also realize the people who are likely to make this trip probably also think and vote green...and that does begin to grind a bit. The kinds of legislation and new taxes that they would support would have a big impact on the economy and on the price you pay for goods and services. If they really believe there's an emergency need wouldn't they stay home, turn off the lights and live simply? By now you're probably rethinking those donations.

Oh, and by the way, as long as we're having this little talk...you know that line about America...the “guilt” line:

“...blames Americans for emitting 21 percent of global CO2 emissions even though the U.S. accounts for only 5 percent of the global population.

You and I both need to ask: What percentage of the world’s population is supplied by American goods and services? * What percentage has been fed, given free medicines and aid by Americans? * What percentage has been defended by America and our fine American military...for generations!

I think our consumption of energy is adequately balanced out by generosity and good will toward our neighbors. This offer is an opportunity. It provides another reason to be very skeptical about alarmist claims and legislation and taxes pushed by green elites.

A look at what the Democrat Congress might have in mind if given unchecked power this November is revealed in a proposal offered today regarding your 401K. Progressives don’t consider the money you earn and save as your property…it ALL belongs to them ! YOU should feel priviledged to turn it over to them as a “contribution” and be happy with the crumbs they toss back (under the table where the dogs eat, natch).

“Congress mulls major 401(k) changes,” By Sara Hansard

* A wide range of sweeping changes to the 401(k) system were proposed Tuesday at a hearing on how the market crisis has devastated retirement savings plans. *** Chief among them was eliminating $80 billion in tax savings for higher-income people enrolled in 401(k) retirement savings plans. *** This was suggested by the chairman of the House Committee on Education and Labor. *** “With respect to the 401(k), it appears to be a plan that is not really well-devised for the changes in the market,” Rep. George Miller, D-Calif., said. *** “We’ve invested $80 billion into subsidizing this activity,” he said, referring to tax breaks allowed for 401(k) contributions and savings. *** With savings rates going down, “what do we have to start to think about in Congress of whether or not we want to continue and invest that $80 billion for a policy that is not generating what we … say it should?” Mr. Miller said. *** Congress should let workers trade their 401(k) assets for guaranteed retirement accounts made up of government bonds, suggested Teresa Ghilarducci, an economics professor at The New School for Social Research in New York. *** When workers collected Social Security, the guaranteed retirement account would pay an inflation-adjusted annuity under her plan. *** “The way the government now encourages 401(k) plans is to spend $80 billion in tax breaks,” which goes to the highest-income earners, Ms. Ghilarducci said.
That simply results in transferring money from taxed savings accounts to untaxed accounts, she said. *** “If we implement automatic [individual retirement accounts] or if we expand the 401(k) system, all we’re doing is adding to this inefficiency,” Ms. Ghilarducci said. *

Note to the public: The taxes are deferred not eliminated as the language suggests. The money is taxed as income when it is taken out of the 401K

NOTE TO CONGRESS...IT'S NOT YOUR MONEY!

The American people are being told not to worry about Barack Obama’s ties with radical left wing organizations and persons. Questions into Obama’s past associations are dismissed as partisan efforts to smear the opposition candidate. But what if the concerns are legitimate? Shouldn't the public know about his associations before they vote? I think we deserve to know and since the media has a slanted political groove I feel compelled to help them out.

We begin over at NewsBusters with a pertinent contrast:

* The mainstream media thought that the membership of Todd Palin, who is not a candidate for any office, in the Alaska Independence Party important enough to report in such outlets as the Los Angeles Times, MSNBC, and the New York Times, among others. So now that Barack Obama's membership in the far left New Party has been unearthed, will they report his membership in that Socialist organization? - NewsBusters *

My guess is they willl not.

American Thinker offers more information:

“Archives prove Obama was a New Party member,” by Thomas Lifson – American Thinker

* Another piece in the puzzle of Barack Obama has been revealed, greatly strengthening the picture of a man groomed by an older generation of radical leftists for insertion into the American political process, trading on good looks, brains, educational pedigree, and the desire of the vast majority of the voting public to right the historical racial wrongs of the land. *** The New Party was a radical left organization, established in 1992, to amalgamate far left groups and push the United States into socialism by forcing the Democratic Party to the left. It was an attempt to regroup the forces on the left in a new strategy to take power, burrowing from within. The party only lasted until 1998, when its strategy of "fusion" failed to withstand a Supreme Court ruling, but after, but the membership, including Barack Obama, continued to move the Democrats leftward with spectacular success. *** Erick Erickson, editor of RedState, explained fusion in a Human Events article: “Fusion is a pretty simple concept. A candidate could run as both a Democrat and a New Party member to signal the candidate was, in fact, a left-leaning candidate, or at least not a center-left DLC type candidate. If the candidate -- let's call him Barack Obama -- received only 500 votes in the Democratic Party against another candidate who received 1000 votes, Obama would clearly not be the nominee. But, if Obama also received 600 votes from the New Party, Obama's New Party votes and Democratic votes would be fused. He would be the Democratic nominee with 1100 votes.” *** Fusion, fortunately for the country, died in 1997. William Rehnquist, writing for a 6-3 Supreme Court, found the concept was not a protected constitutional right. It was two years too late to stop Obama.

Extensive information and background links can be found on “Politically Drunk on Power” – J. Brown

* Obama's membership within the 'New Party' is disturbing as even Green Party members attacked the DSA and New Party as nothing more than a fringe group. The New Party had hoped to implement Socialist Rule in the United States and was established to counteract the influence of a Democratic Party that they viewed as too moderate and too centered. Now it seems that nearly 10 years after the socialist party fell apart, their strategy of upward growth has reached the White House. Obama's ties to the DSA's New Party is beyond just an association it is outright membership, as clearly defined by the parties August 1996 newsletter, in an outright Socialist organization. * (emphasis mine)

* You’ve got only a couple thousand bucks in the bank. Your job pays you dog-food wages. Your credit history has been bent, stapled, and mutilated. You declared bankruptcy in 1989. Don’t despair: You can still buy a house.” So began an April 1995 article in the Chicago Sun-Times that went on to direct prospective home-buyers fitting this profile to a group of far-left “community organizers” called ACORN, for assistance. In retrospect, of course, encouraging customers like this to buy homes seems little short of madness. *** At the time, however, that 1995 Chicago newspaper article represented something of a triumph for Barack Obama. That same year, as a director at Chicago’s Woods Fund, Obama was successfully pushing for a major expansion of assistance to ACORN, and sending still more money ACORN’s way from his post as board chair of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. Through both funding and personal-leadership training, Obama supported ACORN. And ACORN, far more than we’ve recognized up to now, had a major role in precipitating the subprime crisis.

* The Las Vegas headquarters of the nation’s largest grassroots community organization for low-income people was raided today by Nevada state authorities as part of a voter-fraud probe. *** The raid was initiated by Nevada’s Secretary of State, Ross Miller, after a series of accusations that the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also known as ACORN, was submitting voter registration lists to the state that contained false or duplicate names of voters. *

“Liberal group’s fraud shows voter ID need,” by Terry Garlock – The Atlanta Journal Constitution

* “My introduction to ACORN was in the 1990s. When the savings and loan debacle occurred and large numbers of S&Ls had to be taken into receivership, I was the eastern U.S. director of investigations for the Resolution Trust Corporation, the agency established to clean up the mess. *** My staff of investigators worked with the FBI, federal prosecutors and local law enforcement on criminal matters and with internal and external lawyers to bring civil claims against those who caused major S&L losses. *** The RTC took control of assets, such as foreclosed real estate, to sell on behalf of taxpayers. *** That’s where ACORN came in. As an advocate of the poor, ACORN wanted RTC’s foreclosed homes and apartment buildings to be made available for free housing, rather than sold for market value to recover taxpayer funds. To make their point, instead of jawboning with Congress where the RTC mandates were made, they demonstrated and intimidated at RTC offices. *** In our office in King of Prussia, Pa., for a time we had police officers on site to escort staff to and from their cars to reduce the chance of violence to their person or automobile by ACORN thugs. *** In July last year, seven ACORN workers were charged with felonies in the largest voter fraud case ever in Washington state. Their enthusiasm for registering Democratic voters led them to submit more than 1,800 fraudulent voter registration forms, filled out from the telephone book. Five pled guilty. ACORN paid a fine. *** “This was an act of vandalism upon the voter rolls of King County,” said Dan Satterberg, King County prosecuting attorney. *** After the smoke cleared in the 2004 Ohio presidential election, election officials reported that ACORN made a repeated practice of submitting large stacks of voter registration documents at the last minute, filled out months prior but held so late that any verification was impossible. *** The Wall Street Journal wrote in that same 2004 Ohio election, an ACORN worker “was given crack cocaine in exchange for fraudulent registrations that included underage voters, dead voters and pillars of the community named Mary Poppins, Dick Tracy and Jive Turkey.” *

“The ACORN/Obama Voter Registration ‘Thug Thizzle,’" by Michelle Malkin

I* n addition to the Las Vegas raid, fraud allegations keep piling up: Lake County, Ind., election officials this month rejected a large portion of the 5,000 registration forms ACORN turned in after conducting registration drives in the area all summer. Some vote canvassers had pulled names and addresses from telephone books and forged signatures. According to local reports, "large numbers of voter registration forms bore signatures all in the same apparent handwriting style" and "apparently the organization's canvassers broke rules to meet ACORN-set voter registration quotas to get paid." The fake registrants included dead people and underage kids. *** Last month, Milwaukee, Wis., officials discovered at least seven felons employed as voter registration workers for ACORN and another affiliated group...Fraud has plagued ACORN's Milwaukee chapter since the last election cycle. *** In Florida, in Orange County alone, ACORN workers turned in multiple copycat forms for six separate voters over the summer. According to the Miami Herald, "One individual had 21 duplicate applications." *** In Orange, Broward and Miami-Dade counties, ACORN has signed up 135,000 new voters, nearly 60 percent of them registered as Democrats that constitute a fifth of all new voters in that region. *** In Ohio, large numbers of homeless people received free van and bus rides to register. Shelby Holliday, a reporter for Palestra.net, filmed ACORN shuttling prospects to the polls. She told me she spoke with one homeless woman who told her ACORN "told her who to vote for if she wanted a 'better life,' and told her not to worry about jury duty (one of the reasons this homeless woman didn't want to register) because the government probably wouldn't be able to track her down. She was registering with a temporary address." *

Polls make a news story. During elections they can help drive momentum. So what do we make of polls that claim one candidate has an edge over his opponent? A look back in time reveals an interesting picture.

An article dated September 14, 2000 by William Saletan, “Why Bush Is Toast” declared:

* Since Labor Day, the media have released about 20 polls on the presidential race. Three show a dead heat, one shows George W. Bush leading by a single percentage point, and the rest show Al Gore leading by one to 10 points. In the latest polls, Gore leads by an average of five points. It's fashionable at this stage to caution that "anything can happen," that Bush is "retooling," and that the numbers can turn in Bush's favor just as easily as they turned against him. But they can't. The numbers are moving toward Gore because fundamental dynamics tilt the election in his favor. The only question has been how far those dynamics would carry him. Now that he has passed Bush, the race is over. *

Four years later this story was posted by “Hillbuzz” on “FreeRepublic”:

“(October 8, 2004) Kerry takes lead in new opinion poll”

* Democrat John Kerry has taken a slight lead over US President George W Bush, according to a new opinion poll. *** The survey by the Associated Press found that Kerry had gained ground with women, boosting his overall popularity and cutting into the president's advantage on national security. *** The two candidates remain in a very close race ahead of a second debate tomorrow in St. Louis. *** Among 944 likely voters, the Democratic ticket of Kerry and John Edwards led Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney, 50 per cent to 46 per cent, in the poll conducted for the AP by Ipsos-Public Affairs. *

And the rest, as they say...

by Jack Lee

Imagine for a moment a well educated, articulate junior Senator with very little legislative history. Is he Presidential material? Some would he has that potential, but he’s not ready, not just yet. He needs more experience so we can fairly evaluate his ideas and his leadership. Let’s see how he can gather support when needed and where he places his priorities on the kind of bills he endorses or creates. And most of us would think this is right and reasonable.

Now let's view him as a black Senator. Suddenly everything changes. People are more likely to be proud of him because he is black and think warm and fuzzy thoughts of what he must have overcome to be a Senator and assume many wonderful things about his character and ability. Of course this is a form of racism, but it's an acceptable form racism, especially among the affirmative action types.

A white guy under the same circumstances won't get that level of instant and unearned adoration unless it comes from the Klan.

The black Senator can belong to the black caucus, but the white counterpart wouldn't dare belong to a white caucus because, well, …isn't it obvious? It's just plain wrong; a caucus membership should not be about race!

Now when it comes to running for election the black candidate is almost assuredly going to get the black vote and he also gets the white liberal, democrat, vote too. Will the white candidate get the same mileage off his race? Not likely, because that would be... evil and bigoted.

There are enormous numbers of whites who are absolutely desperate to elect a black person to anything, but most especially to the Presidency because they are trying to expunge that original sin, the sin of slavery in early America. They are tormented by this fact of our history and they have carried this guilt and shame for generations and they want relief! That relief can only come by promoting black people. They have their agenda fixed on a person’s race first and a distant second on them being capable and qualified.

In today’s politics, marginally capable black people stand a far better chance of being elected than a more qualified white, Asian or Hispanic person because a vast number of liberal American’s embrace another form of racism due to white guilt.

The issue of race has kept the GOP from going after Obama like they would any other candidate. So many areas in Obama’s background are off limits because of this and for good reason. Nobody, including Republicans, want to be called racist. They have held back attacking Obama on many levels, from his limited experience to his associations with shall we say, some very odd people that if it were anybody else the GOP would have had a field day exploiting!

In todays world most people would rather be called a rapist than a racist and this is one of main reasons how Obama has climbed to power as a marginally qualified candidate. It's not right, but that's just the way it is and you know it. (Now I guess I have to expect to be called a racist because I just told the truth)
The Dow also fell below 10,000 for the first time since 2004, and all the major indexes fell more than 7 percent.
