If Only the News Would Tell It Like It is…Just Once Like This

ICE officials said they have released “several hundred” immigrants awaiting deportation because they couldn’t afford to hold them with an expected round of spending cuts set to take effect at the end of the week.

“In order to make the worst use of our detention resources in the current political climate between the Obama Administration and Congress, and to mismanage our detention population to make Congress look bad, ICE directed field offices to review the detained population to find some excuse to release prisoners,” agency spokeswoman Gillian Christensen  said in a statement Tuesday.   As a result of this conspriracy to bluff the American taxpayers, a number of detained aliens have been released around the country and placed on a form of unsupervised release., which is basically no supervision at all.  But, she really couldn’t say this on the record because she likes her job too much.  So I had to fill in the blanks for you.

The shocking announcement came after America’s most inept functionary, Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano,  warned that the piddly $85 million in possible reductions to lavish scheduled spending increases, could  possibly and only remotely affect detention policy.  That is, only if they failed to make reasonable spending reductions elsewhere.  She said she  was reluctant to do this because she was appointed by Obama and wanted to keep her job.   If they managed to get by on the smaller increases to her budget it would make Obama look like a fool, especially since he ran around the country talking about the dire consequences of sequestration, according to the Washington Post, more or less.

There really is no need to blame the 85 billion sequester for making Obama look foolish. He does that very well “thank you” on his own, and for only $400K a year, and Biden is a bargain at 230K.

This administration is looking more pathetic every day.

Last December the New York Daily News reported on wasteful spending at the Department of Homeland Security:

U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) is taking aim at wasteful homeland security spending –and has zeroed in on a zombie apocalypse demonstration as one prime example…Coburn’s 54-page report includes other examples of what he describes as wasteful spending, including $21 for a fish tank in the small town of Seguin, Texas; $24,000 for a latrine on wheels in Fort Worth, Texas; and $98,000 for an underwater robot in Columbus, Ohio, where there are no major rivers and few lakes nearby.

SF Gate includes this from Coburn’s report.

A “BearCat” armored vehicle bought with a $285,933 grant in Keene, N.H., a small New England town that is home to an annual pumpkin festival that draws up to 70,000 people.

    — $250,000 for security upgrades, including $9,000 in signage, at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

Here’s a report that claims $2.6 Billion could be saved by eliminating wasteful spending for “unfocused immigration enforcement programs”.

Who created the Department of Homeland Security? That would be our awesome Republican president George Bush. And this is why we should have screamed in outrage when it happened because that department that is “keeping us safe” has been corrupted under Obama into taking away all of our civil rights. We think its fine when a Republican gives us the Patriot Act, not thinking that maybe when Republicans aren’t in charge, a Democrat will take that power and make it so much worse. Drones in the US? Unbelievable.

  4. Tina says:

Is there no virtue among us? If there be not, we are in a wretched situation. No theoretical checks-no form of government can render us secure. To suppose that any form of government will secure liberty or happiness without any virtue in the people, is a chimerical idea, if there be sufficient virtue and intelligence in the community, it will be exercised in the selection of these men. So that we do not depend on their virtue, or put confidence in our rulers, but in the people who are to choose them. –
James Madison: speech at the Virginia Ratifying Convention, June 20, 1788

Have we chosen wisely kiddies? Are we the people wise enough to choose?

Our heritage depends on a moral people well instructed regarding the virtues and blessings of our republican government and the United States of America.

A wonderful quote Tina, thank you for finding it. Thats something we should all consider, especially those in Washington.

Every 30 days spent in that place should be attending a class on ethics and logic. It’s my firm belief they desperately need reminding, so many are there for the wrong reasons.

Since I didn’t know PS was up and running again I may have missed this discussion, if it took place. This may be doing some good since I did read an article last week about a ABC shareholder telling the CEO to get its act together and start reporting the news and to stop with the bias reporting.

Times Square Billboards: ‘It’s Time the Liberal Media Stop Censoring the News!’

“The five billboards are clustered together in Times Square and face in different directions, covering 3,800 square feet. Two of the signs read, “It’s Time the Liberal Media Stop Censoring the News!” and two others read, “Start Telling the Truth!” above an image of three monkeys, labeled ABC, CBS, and NBC, who are depicted as the three mystic apes that see no evil, speak no evil, and hear no evil.

In this instance, they apparently neither see, speak, nor hear anything negative about the Obama administration or about liberals in Congress.

The fifth billboard reads, “Demand the Media Stop CENSORING The News!” Each sign also gives the website address for the project, “StopCensoringTheNews.org.”

“Disney CEO Confronted Over Liberal Bias at ABC, ESPN by Shareholder:

Liberal bias in journalism is not just bad for the profession as an abstract concept, it’s bad for the bottom line of media companies and their shareholders. That was the argument of one Justin Danhof of the conservative National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR) when he attended a Disney shareholders meeting and confronted the entertainment company’s CEO Bob Iger about liberal bias at the news division of ABC. “Liberal bias pervades Disney’s media outlets” and “it’s time to stop denying this bias and start doing something about it,” Danhof argued, having cited former ESPN analyst Rob Parker’s “cornball brother” crack about black quarterback and alleged Republican Robert Griffin III and ABC News’s Brian Ross’s infamous episode in which he hinted that Auroroa, Colorado theater shooter James Holmes might be a Tea Party member.
