It’s Time to Batten Down the Hatches! Storm Approaches

Posted by Jack

Hope everyone is prepared because we’ve got a pretty fierce storm rolling in.  The rain is going to come down in buckets for the next 48 hours and the wind is expected to gust close to 60 mph.  Hope your power doesn’t go out, but if it does be sure to have candles available.   Good idea to have some sandwiches made and plenty of ice in your freezer compartment.  You should have at least a couple of days worth of food and necessities, better is 4-5 days.

TIP:  Never use kerosene heaters indoors…the carbon monoxide will kill you.

So far this massive storm hasn’t lived up to expectation. Some winds, some rain, nothing that unusual. Glad we’re getting the water, just hope flooding is kept to a minimum.

Well…when we left home we had water about a foot deep over our bridge. I hope we can cross by the time it’s time to go home.

But you’re right; we’ve seen much worse.

Oh…and my internet has been out at home again since yesterday.

The creek water is about 25 feet from my back door but we are up on a pad about 6 feet for just these purposes.

I hope the weather we have been having heralds an end to the drought. I am crossing my fingers for a long wet winter and a deep Sierra snow pack. Unfortunately, this particular storm (a pineapple express) is too warm and there is rain in the mountains except at the highest altitudes.

    Off topic.

Hell just froze over. Obama supports House GOP to pass spending bill.

Waiting Senate vote to pass House bill. Whips are out!

Like no one saw this coming. The recent, much hyped Pineapple Express storm predicted to slam into the west coast and dump huge amounts of water has been blamed on global warming. Someone should tell these people that the dire weather predictions for this storm have fizzled — just like the dire predictions of the suspicious and specious Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming activist crowd have fizzled. Such are the vagaries of weather prediction and shameless political hogwash.

Certainly we got a long, steady and needed rain with the usual (= not unusual) attendant flooding. For the victims of flooding, however, the storm was destructive enough. Nevertheless I hope the weather we have been having for the past month or so continues and heralds an end to the drought. We have a whole winter to go yet. Unfortunately this storm was too warm to add any significant layer to a much needed deep snow pack in the Sierra, That snow pack is crucial to replenishing California’s water supply.

Pray for a wet, cold winter.

This storm was kinda fun for me. I survived Sandy and this was a piece of cake! Glad all is well
