Rand Paul Wins Big at CPAC

by Jack

Rand_Paul1Rand Paul was the clear favorite going in so it was no surprise that he won the Conservative Political Action Conference’s annual presidential preference straw poll.   However, this speaks more the demographics of the attendees than a mandate from the GOP nationwide.  Paul is probably one of the most generous (philanthropic) candidates in the race.  See Paul’s background here.

This is the 3rd consecutive time Paul won the annual survey with 25.7% of the votes.   Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker came in a close second with 21.4%.  Sen. Ted Cruz was third with 11.5%, followed by Dr. Ben Carson with 11.4%.   Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush was trailing with 8.3%, although many consider him one of the top three when it comes to being a viable nationwide candidate.  All of the other candidates received less than 5%.

“The three-day CPAC conference in suburban Washington draws many libertarian-leaning college students whose views and priorities differ significantly from the Republican Party at large. But it is nonetheless seen as a barometer of certain conservative activists’ early leanings.

Pollsters said just over 3,000 attendees voted. Nearly half identified as between the ages of 18 and 25.” As reported in the AP.

Gov. Chris Christie was once the man to beat, but that was before a lot of revelations about how he runs his state came into full view.   Christie is one of many governors that denied Tesla the right to sell cars in his state because of union pressure.  They hate the idea of Tesla’s factory direct sales and would rather block their sales and see them fail. Read the good and bad about Christie here.

Yes Rand won, but that’s not surprising since the house was packed with his supporters. Walker came in a close 2nd, which was totally unexpected to the GOP Beltway Establishment.
And Jeb only came in 5th behind Ben Carson, even with his busing in of lobbyists from K Street in DC.

The GOP Establishment had better figure out quick that they’re outta step with the grass roots, or there will be another GOP defeat ion 2016.

    • Post Scripts says:

      J. Soden, as the old saying goes the GOP has a bad habit of “snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.” If they don’t get off their collective butts and do something while they control the Senate and the House there is no reason to think adding the White House will make a difference.

  2. Peggy says:

Jack, you are so right. I’m getting updates from the CRP conference going on in Sac. The conservative vs RINOs is going strong.

Hannity did on air interviews with all of the potential candidates, except one who refused the interview. That guy was Chris Christy. The RINO bully likes to tell others to, “sit down and shut up,” but he won’t sit down live with a conservative tells me he’s really a coward.

  3. Dan the Man says:

I like Paul. We could do a lot worse. Look at what we got now. cripes he is bad, and i cant figure out why so many people still like Obama. oh well, takes all kinds of voters to make a country.

  4. Libby says:

But J, all those nut bunnies at the CPAC think that THEY are the grass roots.

    • Post Scripts says:

Libby, I think you are grossly underestimating the CPAC people. They have embraced a very clear agenda. They are out to not just win, but to crush the far left into irrelevancy and to do it with a vengeance. They hate the democrats radical side like nobody ever has hated an American opposition party before. You can thank President Obama for that.

  5. Peggy says:

Poor Libs just doesn’t get who free thinking, liberty loving, constitutional supporters are. They are not nut bunnies who think they are grass roots, they ARE grass roots.

Ronald Reagan won the straw poll in 1976, 1980 and 1984.

    From Wikipedia:

    CPAC History
“The conference was founded in 1973 by the American Conservative Union and Young Americans for Freedom as a small gathering of dedicated conservatives.[1][2] Over the years it has grown to thousands of attendees annually. Roughly half of those in attendance in the past few years have been college-aged.[3][4][5]

Speakers have included Ronald Reagan…Before, during, and after his presidency, Ronald Reagan spoke at CPAC a total of 12 times.[17] In his 1985 speech, he referred to CPAC as his “opportunity to dance with the one that brung ya”, referring to CPAC having been a contributing factor to his political success.”

Reagan saved our country after the damage Carter’s failed attempt to transform the US during his single term in office. And as long as Jeb Bush or Chris Christie doesn’t win the nomination our next conservative president will save us again.

Even a lot of Democrats would not classify Ronald Reagan as a “nut bunny.”

  6. Peggy says:

Update on the lying Daily Beast article about Walker.

‘News’ media coverage of Scott Walker a mess of corrections, retractions and apologies:

“The lies liberals are telling about Scott Walker in the media keep unraveling.

The latest embarrassment is The Daily Beast, a website with pretensions to actual journalism. It published a piece Friday by a student columnist who accused the Republican Wisconsin governor of proposing a budget that would end requirements on reporting rapes on campus.

The Daily Beast had to retract entire article as more fiction than fact and issued a statement of apology.

We deeply regret the error and apologize to Gov. Walker and our readers. Our original story should be considered retracted.apologize

The crucial error came because the Daily Beast relied on the notoriously shallow feminist website Jezebel, which also had to apologize.

With its report, the Daily Beast became the second major outlet within the same number of weeks to apologize for saying it got a story wrong about Walker, who is now cruising in the fast lane on the highway to a GOP presidential nomination.

The New York Times claimed in a Feb. 13 column that Wisconsin teachers were laid off in 2010 because of Walker’s budget cuts to education. But a 10-second Google search would have revealed that Walker didn’t become governor until the following year.

  7. Libby says:

“They are out to not just win, but to crush the far left into irrelevancy and to do it with a vengeance.”

Well, I don’t see how they propose to do that by nominating Paul … he has no chance of the nomination … certainly not of carrying the nation.

As to “crushing the left” … I just can’t see 3,000 nut bunnies (aka CPAC attendees) pulling that off.

    • Post Scripts says:

It’s not 3,000 Libby. That’s just a sampling of what’s out here. It works out like this, about 38% of all American voters are registered republican, but there has been this quiet ground swell of declined to state or independent voters that are going to vote GOP when the time comes…IF… if the GOP can field a reasonable candidate that doesn’t make any huge mistakes during the campaign.

Libby, I’m pretty sure you know this already, but Obama has created more support for the GOP than anything they have done for themselves. His inadvertent “help” just keeps piling up, like his idea to overhaul and centralize law enforcement…that’s an incredibly dangerous move towards a police state! The more the real Obama comes out, the easier the victory for the republicans.

His poor handling over Israel’s Prime Minister’s (Netanyahu) visit has turned off a lot of Jewish liberals in America and it’s alarmed many more people in both party’s. So Netanyahu two speeches here have been extremely well received by Americans. They are also scaring the heck out of them, because they see how Obama’s weak diplomacy is helping Iran on it’s path to nuclear proliferation in the Middle East and that’s the last thing those characters need.

This is a major crisis brewing, but there’s every reason to believe that it could have been defused long ago if we had a better President.

Netanyahu is set to speak tomorrow to Congress. It’s 11 a.m. eastern time, I hope you and everyone here has a chance to listen to him.

Jack: “His inadvertent “help” just keeps piling up, like his idea to overhaul and centralize law enforcement…that’s an incredibly dangerous move towards a police state!”

Obama campaigned in 2008 he wanted a national security force and the idiots voted for him then and in 2012.

    Obama Civilian Security:

    http://www.bing.com/videos/search?q=obama+national+police+force+youtube&FORM=VIRE1#view=detail&mid=EE668B8C92412B6A150BEE668B8C92412B6A150B

Remember Obama’s Civilian National Security Force?:

“Is Obama planning to have a Civilian Security Force in addition to the military? “We cannot continue to rely on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

“We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set,” Obama said. “We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.”

That plank in the future president’s platform was quickly removed, but evidently not discarded. It seems that it was merely safely tucked away until a more opportune time.

Now we see, perhaps, then-Candidate Obama’s intent re-emerging — not through the creation of a voluntary service program, but through the co-opting of various government agencies to suppress those whom this administration perceives as enemies.

    Evidence is not lacking:

    – The IRS has been used to target Tea Party groups and has leaked private information about other conservative organizations, such as the National Organization for Marriage.

-The EPA has been heaping monstrous regulations upon the U.S. coal industry in order to, essentially, kill it.

    – When Tea Partiers organized a small protest/press conference in front of the IRS in Washington, D.C. last May, Homeland Security vehicles outnumbered the Tea Partier attendees. Homeland Security’s overbearing, disproportionate presence was intimidating, as intended.”

    Obama’s National Police:
    January 2, 2015

“In 2008, Pres. Obama delivered a campaign speech in Colorado Springs, Colorado where he said, “We cannot continue to rely only on our military in order to achieve the national security objectives that we’ve set. We’ve got to have a civilian national security force that’s just as powerful, just as strong, just as well-funded.” These words set off a firestorm of criticism. Some accused Pres. Obama of saying America needs a national police force. Others called the idea that Pres. Obama wants a national police force a “lunatic theory.”

In 2009, the National Emergency Centers Act (HR 645) was introduced in Congress to authorize Homeland Security to build detention camps to hold Americans during emergencies and for “appropriate needs.” Good reasons were offered, but legalizing the detention of American citizens for unspecified “appropriate needs” troubled many people.

In 2010, the Dept. of Homeland Security awarded a $385 million contract to KBR, a former subsidiary of Halliburton, to build temporary detention centers on an “as needed” basis to be used in national emergency situations. One report said the plan called for every state to have from 3 to 15 detention centers.

That same year, Pres. Obama travelled to Mumbai, India where he said, “There is going to be a tug-of-war within the U.S. between those who see globalization (world government) as a threat and those who accept that we live in an open integrated (merged) world.” Put another way, Pres. Obama said he expects problems between those Americans who oppose a world government and those Americans who support a world government.

In 2011, Congress passed the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Fiscal Year 2012 and it was signed into law by Pres. Obama on Jan. 2, 2012. According to what I read, Sections 1031, 1032 and 1036 allows the U.S. military to jail American citizens indefinitely (for the rest of their lives if they want to, and in other countries, if they want to) without charges or a trial.

In 2012, there was a court challenge and a federal judge ruled that jailing American citizens without a trial is unconstitutional. The judge temporarily blocked it, but Pres. Obama fought the ruling through several courts and he finally won the case.

People started asking, “Why does Pres. Obama think he needs a national police force? Why does he think this national police force needs to be just as powerful, just as strong and just as well-funded as the U.S. military? Why does Pres. Obama think he needs so many detention centers? We already have police and jails all over the U.S.” Pres. Obama must have a reason for wanting a national police force and detention centers.

In 2013, there was a shortage of bullets. The DHS admitted that it had purchased more than 148 million rounds in 2010, more than 108 million rounds in 2011 and more than 103 million rounds in 2012. These purchases of more than 350 million rounds of ammunition (many of which are outlawed on a battlefield) caused concern that Pres. Obama is up to something. Regardless of the reason, gun sales broke all records.

In 2014, it was reported that several U.S. police departments have started receiving surplus military equipment including armored vehicles, machine guns, planes and helicopters. Some questioned why local police departments need military equipment, including machine guns, but supporters called the militarization of America’s police “an efficient use of resources.”

This brings me to Pres. Obama’s reaction to the deaths of Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown and Eric Garner. Pres. Obama is bound to know the facts in these cases. He is bound to know that the problem is not untrained police or racism. He is bound to know that the problem relates back to sexual immorality, illegitimate children, unwed mothers, absentee fathers, illegal drugs, crime-ridden neighborhoods and things like that.

Perhaps it is just another lunatic theory, but I am wondering why is Pres. Obama ignoring the facts? Why is he blaming the police? Are we seeing an attempt to nationalize a police force armed with machine guns and military vehicles?

I don’t know, but if I was expecting a tug of war in America over a world government, I would want to control the police. If I was building detention camps to hold American citizens, I would want a police force that will arrest and detain American citizens. I would want to monitor our citizen’s e-mails, text messages, Internet searches, Facebook postings, phone calls, etc. Nationalizing the police would give me a strong well-funded force in every American town and city.”

Remember also the Chicago police dept’s black ops site where people were taken and their Constitutional rights were violated without any reprisals.

His poor handling over Israel’s Prime Minister’s (Netanyahu) visit has turned off a lot of Jewish liberals in America and it’s alarmed many more people in both party’s.

I would like to address that.

Sir Netan-Yahoo is campaigning here in the United States. He is also Lobbying for war in Congress.

Much of Israel is upset at this visit as well. 200 retired Israeli Generals have surfaced to say he is lying.

The visit is a sham. I personally take offense.

I disagree with you. Many Many Jewish people are upset. Last I looked today the labor party was polling ahead.

He has been saying the same story for 20 years. He does not want any chance of peace. He wants war. If I were a member of congress I would not show up to the speech.

I am still looking for the section of the constitution that says a foreign leader should form foreign policy with congress.

    • Post Scripts says:

Dewey, It was not 200 Generals… “TEL AVIV — Hours after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu set off Sunday for Washington, a group of 180 retired (Israeli generals) and (former top security officials) warned that his upcoming address to a joint meeting of Congress on Iran’s nuclear program will cause more harm than good.

It will not only damage Israel’s special relationship with the United States but also undermine military and intelligence ties, they said.

Rather than slowing down Iran’s nuclear project, the former security officials said, Netanyahu’s speech Tuesday will bring the Islamic republic closer to developing a nuclear bomb.”

  10. Libby says:

    1) There’s no keeping the Iranians from getting nuclear weapons if they REALLY want them.

    2) A nuclear armed Iran is no more of a threat to Israel than an nuclear armed Israel is to Iran.

I must be hoped that Bibi loses his election … and then we can all chill. All except Boehner, that is, who really should lose his job. The man’s political ineptitude beggars all description.

  11. Libby says:

“Libby, I’m pretty sure you know this already, but Obama has created more support for the GOP than anything they have done for themselves.”

It might seem like that, there, inside the bubble. I’m telling you … you need to get out.

  12. J. Soden says:

White house behavior is identical to that of a 5-year-old who doesn’t get his way.

One has to hope that those in the Jewish community are re-thinking their campaign contributions to the Demwit party after the disgraceful way Bibi has been treated.

    Or at least are asking for their $$ back . . . . .

  13. Name Witheld says:

Peggy: “In 2009, the National Emergency Centers Act (HR 645) was introduced in Congress to authorize Homeland Security to build detention camps to hold Americans during emergencies and for “appropriate needs.” Good reasons were offered, but legalizing the detention of American citizens for unspecified “appropriate needs” troubled many people.”

The bill says nothing about “detention” camps. Read it here. The bill authorized the creation of humanitarian aid centers. That is obviously very different from “detention” centers which by their very definition detain people against their will.

  14. Libby says:

“In 2009, the National Emergency Centers Act (HR 645) ….”

Indeed, it is a mortal shame to allow existing facilities to be abandoned, defunded, abandoned … when other uses could be found for them.

But those “Tea Partiers” … the nut and bolts of government, let alone common sense, are beyond their ken.
