Comparing your political opponents to Hitler is only funny in that it makes people laugh at you.

    • Post Scripts says:

Gee Chris did you have a fit when the lefties made fun of Ronald Reagan or George Bush? I’ve seen no end of mocking these people, and this includes the Hitler comparison done in the most disrespectful ways. (see example linked below)

Either you are true to your values or you’re not. Because you can’t come here and condemn us when we offend the left and then disregard it when the left does very the same thing to us. Your silence at this point becomes a statement of approval, if not hypocrisy.

Here’s your leftwing idea of funny (see link), makes ours look pretty mild by comparison…note the link address, UCSB, classes, projects.

      BUSHHITLER

There’s no shortage of such outrageous, degrading and foul crap like this example coming from leftwing politics.

  2. Chris says:

Also, the first cartoon makes no sense. Obama has called ISIS “evil” numerous times, as anyone capable of a Google search can easily find out. I’m not sure if he’s said the same about Hamas, though he has condemned many of their actions.

As for Putin, do you really want Obama to start calling him evil? I actually would find that pretty cool, but I thought conservatives loved Putin and thought he was a great leader? They can’t seem to stop singing his praises.

  3. Pie Guevara says:

Compare the Hitler and Hillary quotes and think about it.

Conservatives love Putin? My, what a bizarre fantasy world you live in. Why not add “conservatives hate science?” You have been hanging around the ridiculous Joe Shaw too much Chris. It shows,

  4. Pie Guevara says:

Comparing Hillary with Hitler is, of course, ridiculous. Hillary would only operate concentration camps for Republicans if she could. 😀

Yet the two quotes are quite poignant side by side and I think each reveals a common core component of both Hillary’s and Hitler’s belief system, even as different as these two people actually are.

No, wait, I may change mind on that. Compare Shrillary to Adolf in speeches …

  5. Chris says:

Jack: “Gee Chris did you have a fit when the lefties made fun of Ronald Reagan or George Bush?”

What “fit?” I felt my comments were fairly calm and rational. Do you disagree?

And of course I don’t have a problem with “making fun” of any politician. I just think that the points behind the jokes should be valid. I feel like I explained pretty clearly why some of these jokes just don’t work, but you’re ignoring those points.

I believe I’ve stated here many times that Hitler comparisons are ridiculous and absurd regardless of whether the target is on the left or right. I didn’t approve of it when lefties did it to Bush either. You have not seen my comments on left-wing sites and not many other lefties hang out here, so I don’t think it makes sense for you to assume that I would approve of such a thing, especially when you have seen me call out certain types of unfair attacks against right wing politicians (like the sexism against Sarah Palin, for instance).

    • Post Scripts says:

Chris, you made it clear you were offended when you said the person responsible for it ought to be object of laughter.

That’s fine, if that’s how you really feel. However, I feel your protest is coming from a position of political bias far more than it is from a noble protest.

If you want to be fair, then employ the same standard for both the left and right. You’re rarely critical of the left and instead you’re a defender. That’s exactly why most of what you said can be chalked up to just leftwing grousing.

You can’t hold the moral high ground unless you are ready to be fair and balanced like Fox news. ; )

  6. Chris says:

Pie, Google “conservatives praising Putin” and you’ll see what I’m talking about. It’s not just liberals who have noticed this either; the right-leaning Reason.com published an article by libertarian (and outspoken critic of feminism) Cathy Young in which she critiques the right wing’s admiration of Putin:

“Russian President Vladimir Putin, the career KGB officer who has presided over the rollback of his country’s post-Communist freedoms and revived Cold War-style anti-Americanism, is an unlikely hero for American conservatives. Yet the Kremlin strongman has lately found some fans on the right who see him as a defender of Christian values — most recently, in the imbroglio over Russia’s new legal ban on gay “propaganda.” It is a sad misjudgment that does a disservice to the causes of conservatism, freedom, and religion alike.”

    http://reason.com/archives/2013/08/22/vladimir-putin-is-no-ally-for-the-right

That said, my comment was unfair in that I was conflating the point of view of the artist of that particularly cartoon, as well as Jack’s, with the views of other conservatives who have expressed admiration for Putin. I didn’t like it when Jack assumed I must approve of other lefties comparing Bush to Hitler just because I am a liberal, and if I don’t like that kind of thing done to me I shouldn’t make such assumptions about anyone else either. So my apologies for saying “I thought conservatives loved Putin and thought he was a great leader.” While many conservatives have expressed this view, it was still an unfair generalization.

  7. Georgia says:

Seriously? Adult like behavior is needed these days. This is not christian nor American.

In a time where the country is being taken over by global corporations who will sue any city if they do not get their way this is what we get?

LOL have fun. Not worthy of any comments Childish.

    • Post Scripts says:

Actually you have it backwards Georgia, its more like government has a gun to the head of big and small companies telling them to fork over the money or we’ll shut you down! Do it our way, pay me fees, pay me permits, pay me, pay me…. or we’ll shut you down! Over regulation and over taxation, ever hear of that? It’s why our founders rebelled and its what Thomas Jefferson warned about happening. And here we are with the worlds highest corporate tax rate, watching America hemorrhage jobs to other nations because we are taxing the life out of the capitalist system.

Get a clue Georgia before its too late.

Read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand and stop reading all that leftwing hippy-commie propaganda that has your shorts in a twist over Halliburton and Bush.

  8. Pie Guevara says:

Re #7 Eh, bullshit. Google this, google that…

That some folks do not know a damn thing about conservatives and try to pigeon hole them into some idiotic stereotype is standard operating procedure for left wing twits like you and Joe Shaw, Chris.

  9. Pie Guevara says:

    Re #8: Ditto.

  10. Southern Comfort says:

Stubburn an’ quarrelsome are ugly sisters,

yer Chrisy person needs to learn its down right annoying to argue yer point bout crap that y’all caused to begin with.

Round these parts we take family and past serious, you need to heed the good and avoid past mistakes and avoid em’ wide liken’ a wild boar hog

  11. Chris says:

Jack: “Chris, you made it clear you were offended when you said the person responsible for it ought to be object of laughter.”

This doesn’t track. Laughing at someone =/= taking offense.

That said, I do believe Hitler comparisons are offensive, whether they’re made against left-wing or right-wing politicians.

“If you want to be fair, then employ the same standard for both the left and right.”

I literally just did that when I explained that comparing Bush to Hitler was wrong, didn’t I? I’ve also critiqued liberals here in the recent past, such as in the thread about the DOJ report proving the “Hands up, don’t shoot” meme wrong. You have no basis to claim that I hold a double standard.

“You’re rarely critical of the left and instead you’re a defender. That’s exactly why most of what you said can be chalked up to just leftwing grousing.”

I could say the same thing about you in terms of the right, so this is an incredibly weak point. You seem to be arguing that simply because I am a liberal, you are not going to take any of my complaints seriously. That would make you the partisan, not me.

    • Post Scripts says:

Chris, but I make no pretense about my bias! I am biased as a conservative and against almost everything left of center.

However, if you want to aspire to something higher and more noble, something that all teachers should be, then you must show a certain amount of equanimity in your critiques, using one standard that applies to both sides and like I said, you really don’t. Well, you seldom do it, put it that way. I’m just trying to help you be a better teacher. ; )

  12. Pie Guevara says:

THE FUNNIEST COMMENT IN THIS THREAD!

“You seem to be arguing that simply because I am a liberal, you are not going to take any of my complaints seriously. That would make you the partisan, not me.”

    HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH

    HAH!
