About That McCarthy Gaffe

Posted by Tina

The internet and news outlets were a buzz recently when Republican Kevin McCarthy said in response to a question that the Benghazi hearings had hurt Hillary in the polls.

POUNCE! GOTCHA!!!

Left activists, running true to form, were determined to make sure this email “crisis” didn’t “go to waste.”

McCarthy simply stated the truth about polling and Hillary’s legal troubles but his poorly delivered remark was immediately turned into an admission that the Benghazi hearings were contrived as a political “witch hunt.” It looked like the inaccurate smear would stick for awhile but as Eli Lake, writing at Bloomberg, points out, the facts leading up to the hearings don’t lend credence to the witch hunt accusation:

Until May 2014, Republican leadership resisted forming the special committee for nearly a year and a half. All of that changed when House Speaker John Boehner discovered that the White House had not shared with the House Committee on Government Oversight and Reform important e-mails and talking points on what administration officials were encouraged to say in the aftermath of the attack.

That committee was one of five House bodies that had been investigating the attack since late 2012. Boehner was happy to let those five committees do their work and be done with the issue. For months, he opposed a campaign by Representative Frank Wolf (a Virginia Republican who is now retired) to establish a special committee. Wolf even got a majority of Republicans in the House to support his plan, but Boehner still said no.

Boehner’s position changed, though, in May 2014. Two things had happened the month before. First, House Armed Services Committee chairman Buck McKeon openly questioned a star witness called by the House Oversight Committee, suggesting that the five different investigations might yield starkly different conclusions.

Also in April, the conservative group Judicial Watch obtained through a Freedom of Information Act request a new batch of e-mails and talking points that showed the White House, not the CIA, had urged Susan Rice, then the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, to emphasize that the attacks stemmed from protests of an Internet video and were not planned by individuals with links to al-Qaeda. (continues)

The problem with blaming Republicans for Clinton’s email troubles is that she really is facing legal troubles, possibly of the felonious type:

…knowingly and willfully destroy(ing) or conceal(ing) government records…is a felony punishable in jail by up to three years. And are you ready for this? Disqualification from holding public office under the United States of America in the future.

Yesterday another backup server was discovered. Hillary’s problems just keep getting deeper…her supporters can’t blame that on a gaffe.

McCarthy has been given the Boehner Seal of Approval, however that fact coupled with his $hriLIARy gaffe should make others wonder if he’s the right person for the job of Speaker – and in line to be Prez . . . .

McCarthy is not fit to serve…what a dope!

His idiocy doesn’t change the fact that Hillary is accused of breaking laws and ignoring security procedures or that she thinks herself above the law.

The FBI investigation continues. See also here. The investigation is a criminal probe that was triggered by recovered emails not turned over to the government and about Benghazi.

  2. Libby says:

As usual, you’ve not got it quite right. It’s not the investigation, but the unwillingness to admit the investigation is over, that McCarthy lamented as political idiocy, and a great waste of the taxpayers’ money, too.

      We’ll see if it’s over.

It’s a bit sick that you don’t care about what she has done and the probability that she committed crimes.

Liberals find all kinds of ways to waste taxpayer money, including extended bogus hearings. You don’t have a leg to stand on on that point.

  3. Libby says:

    “We’ll see if it’s over.”

    Sigh.

Ol’ Kevin’s got his work cut out for him.

  4. Dewey says:

It’s about time people in congress start to act.

Bottom Line Trey Gowdy and Kevin McCarthy now have an ethics complaint filed against them. The ethics committee will investigate of course Gowdy is also on that committee. Will he recuse himself?

Too many crimes are committed in congress and it is time to start dealing with them whether Republican or Democrat.

What happened to the wasted spending Platform? Over 4.5 million taxpayer dollars used as an admitted witch hunt against a candidate. History repeats with the same last name. How ironic!

…… You are going to see a conservative speaker, that takes a conservative congress that puts together a strategy to win, let me give you an example………

Plain as day Tina He confessed to a crime on hannity! Furthermore the record will show they did not have many meetings til primary season. It is how they roll.

Funny how Christie, Perry (actually Indicted) and Walker all are fine candidates when they run.

If it walks like a duck, Talks like a duck…………….

Go Grayson! You would make an excellent replacement in Rubio’s Senate seat!

That so called witch hunt includes a bag full of discovery, now taken up by the FBI, that has nothing to do with politics.

Hillary’s legal problems are quite serious. See also here:

…Mrs. Clinton, who set up the account on the eve of her confirmation hearings to be secretary of state, set about establishing a wall of secrecy with a great degree of purpose. It is as if a candidate for the highest office wanted to make sure that not everything she did in the capacity of our top diplomat was discoverable by the public?

It is against the law for a public official to conduct public business on a private email account. Mark Hemingway points out that, given Mrs. Clinton’s trouble with keeping track of records in the 1990s, she could hardly be unaware of the legal problems. There are security concerns about a secretary of state’s emails being on a homebrew email service.

The discovery of the former secretary email system also raises serious questions about her transparency with regard to the Benghazi massacre of four Americans, including our ambassador, and Mrs. Clinton’s response.

Every citizen should be concerned, Dewey. Since you prefer to be flippant and dismissive I have to assume what you know about this is shallow at best.

“Every citizen should be concerned, Dewey. Since you prefer to be flippant and dismissive I have to assume what you know about this is shallow at best. ”

Shallow is a person who does not understand actual facts.

Do I condone use of private email? No.

Benghazi? Read the reports. They do not find illegal activity. Also the CIA was supplying arms to the rebels there. The Press release was so bad because the CIA and FBI were covering up their activities.

McCarthy? Bottom Line they were using taxpayer funds to attack Clinton as admitted. That is illegal. And there is an ethics complaint filed as there should be.

Furthermore it was not illegal at the time. Many Politicians were doing it including The Bush’s. Palin, Romney, ect ect ect. Christie’s bridgegate was on private emails and if we had those! He would get what is due him.

I believe a law has been passed after the fact. It was very common.

Why are we not going after the Bush admin? Double checking these drone attacks of the PBO admin?

Shallow is overlooking the crimes and illegal activity of one party and constantly attacking the other. Cleaning up the system includes all of them.

I for one am glad the ethics case was filed.

Treason, sedition, all of that is arguably happening by gov officials. We need to hold every one of them accountable. The line in the sand needs to be drawn!

Besides the comical part ..”Speaker of the House” McCarthy can not even speak properly. He will withdraw, believe me these are serious charges to which he will probably only get a slap on the hand because they all protect each other!

See Tina above — “That so called witch hunt includes a bag full of discovery, now taken up by the FBI, that has nothing to do with politics.”

Are you getting a clue yet?

  7. Pie Guevara says:

Hands Kevin McCarthy a short sword and tells him to go find a quiet place.
