Liberals Admit It, If You Tax Something You Get Less of It

reaganPosted by Tina

“If you want more of something, subsidize it; if you want less of something, tax it.” – Ronald Reagan

The left tells us that Reagan didn’t know much about economics or the effects of regulation and taxation. They play dumb; they need high taxes and government control to further their radical agenda.

The agenda du jour is global warming. Animals that we eat, they say, contribute to global warming. Also, consumption of meat will increase as populations increase and that will just add to the dangerous rise in warming.

OMG! The sky is falling and the only thing that will save us is a scheme to tax the offensive substance, meat, to control consumption of it! Yes that’s right…they know that higher prices (due to taxation) will discourage consumption of meat.

“If you want less of something tax it!

chickenTax our chicken, tax our pork, tax our beef!

Translate this taxing/regulation idea to investments, jobs, and affordable healthcare. What do we get? We get less of it!

Just for fun, catch the Reaganesque language embedded in the article:

The link between livestock and climate change isn’t unknown, given that almost a decade ago the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization warned that the meat in consumer diets was releasing more greenhouse gases than transportation.

But that hasn’t trickled down to widespread public awareness to the same extent that consumers are aware of the impact of car emissions. (emphasis mine)

Do you think they’ll admit Reagan was right? Do you think they’ll admit they get the negative effect of high taxation and regulation? Or that they understand the concept of trickle down? Will they finally fess up to the fact that they do get it…at least they do when it suits their purpose?

Nahhh! They’re a deceitful bunch.

I find it absolutely hilarious that Obumble frequently compares himself to Reagan. Nothing could be further from the truth!

    Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!!!!

  2. Chris says:

That’s not what they’re trying to communicate, Tina.

    • Tina says:

No it wasn’t Chris…but it absolutely does communicate exactly that!

If we slap a tax on meat it will be more expensive and people will consume less and help save the planet. They get EXACTLY how high taxation works and don’t care that it works against the people.

Either that or they are just that stupid!

Here is a very important video on how the powers that be are lying to us with statistics on global warming.

OMG show me an American who says they want high taxes for themselves, No One! Americans say they want the companies and Billionaires making millions a year in profits to pay “Their Fair Share”

Also The carried interest and other loopholes closed. you seem to not listen well.

here is a Heritage deal on farm subsidies
    http://www.heritage.org/research/reports/2007/06/how-farm-subsidies-harm-taxpayers-consumers-and-farmers-too

Bottom Line I have not heard the perfect solutions to roll back the climate problem. But then again how can we have the conversation when Big Oil and others create this propaganda so they are not held accountable for anything?

Reagan did some decent things as all presidents do but he is far from a Guru and his economics are proven as failed policies. Ideology will not solve our problems.

How about coming up with some ideas and solutions?

Today subsidies are no more than corporate welfare. They served their purpose when introduced. Now they are abused.

Speaking of subsidies how is la Malfa breaking up the family farms to receive more to grow Japanese rice serving US?

Look at all the Congress peeps who work on these farm bills for personal reasons. You really do not get the bought out gov do you?

    http://americansforprosperity.org/article/members-of-congress-get-millions-in-farm-subsidies

You spend your time on this right and left war when bottom line we need to independently monitor politicians who are forced to do certain things to keep their jobs.

The system is bought out. The Oligarchy runs this country. We are back to square one and losing our democracy.

Every time you speak of the “radical left” The evil people! I think of WW2 propaganda. Americans are not Republicans and Democrats they are Americans. Period.

I should have the right to know what I eat, if it is GMO, how it was grown and be able to make my own choices. That a problem too?

    • Pie Guevara says:

Re Epic Fail Boy : “Ideology will not solve our problems.”

An your consistently incoherent, disjointed, rambling, fallacious, and just plain silly ideology does not solve anything either.

    • Tina says:

Dewey: “OMG show me an American who says they want high taxes for themselves…”

      “Who was taking about “Americans?”

“Also The carried interest and other loopholes closed.

Weren’t you just griping about all the loopholes? Name the loopholes that were “closed.”

“you seem to not listen well.”

And you do not read, comprehend, or write well. So? What are we to do?

“…they (Americans) want the companies and Billionaires making millions a year in profits to pay “Their Fair Share”

Two questions: 1. What is a fair share?” and 2. If we tax the wealth producers and investors (the rich) who will grow the economy and create jobs? You? The poor? The middle class?

I’m sorry to tell you this but jobs don’t grow on trees and economies don;t grow on wishes!

Lets look at the much ballyhooed “fair share” (chart) posted in the article at Tax Foundation April 2014.

Those making 2K and over pay 70% of federal taxes and about 48% of combined federal, payroll, and excise taxes. That’s a heavy share of the tax burden for those making just 32% of income, especially when the other contributions they make to our society are figured in. What is the value of a booming economy to the middle and poor classes? Good jobs, quality products for less, opportunity to rise higher on the income scale, higher profits for 401K investors, charitable giving to build hospitals, clinics, schools, and to fund research to cure diseases and improve production and even help clean up the air!

Those on the bottom rung pay negative 5% of income tax…zero tax with some getting the benefit of tax credits. Their combined share of federal, payroll and excise taxes is about 4% and they earn (without the tax credit) 17-18%. Some of that 4% will be returned in the “free services” called Medicare and Social Security. I’ll bet they will receive more than the 4% they put in over the course of retirement, on average…which means when it all washes out they didn’t pay 4% but much less. (Addendum: Had they been able to invest those payroll taxes they would receive more money in retirement.)

CLEARLY the rich already pay not only their “fair share” in taxes but they “give back” a hundred fold in investment, contribution, innovation and charity.

Good article. If you could read and comprehend, I’d recommend it. No worries. Other people will be able to get it and your bumper sticker slogan will become exactly what it is…a very bad scam.

      More Dewey:

“…how can we have the conversation when Big Oil and others create this propaganda so they are not held accountable for anything?

Accountable? Just what is your method of accounting?

Oil companies innovate for cleaner production and they pay the bill.

Oil companies pay for clean up of spills and they pay heavy fines and local compensation.

Oil companies provide good paying jobs and a product that fuels the world and makes it possible to make thousand and thousand of products, including medical supplies, clothing…that computer you use t make false, incriminating statements like “they don’t pay their fair share.”

Oil company products (Gas and Diesel) are taxed 18.4% and 24.4% on every dollar. In addition, according to Forbes, three top oil producers pay BILLIONS in corporate taxes:

ExxonMobil in 2011 made $27.3 billion in cash payments for income taxes. Chevron paid $17 billion and ConocoPhillips $10.6 billion. And not only were these the highest amounts in absolute terms, when compared with the rest of the 25 most profitable U.S. companies (see our slideshow for the full rundown of who paid what), the trio also had the highest effective tax rates. Exxon’s tax rate was 42.9%, Chevron’s was 48.3% and Conoco’s was 41.5%. That’s even higher than the 35% U.S. federal statutory rate, which is already the highest tax rate among developed nations. (Emphasis mine)

(The lowest taxpayers among the most profitable companies? Automakers Ford and GM, despite $20 billion and $9 billion in net income, respectively, paid a scant $270 million and $570 million in taxes — simply because they have billions in previous-year losses to balance against recent profits.)

      More Dewey:

“Today subsidies are no more than corporate welfare. They served their purpose when introduced. Now they are abused.”

Good reason for sunset clauses, which the right has introduced on principle more than once.

“Reagan did some decent things as all presidents do but he is far from a Guru and his economics are proven as failed policies ”

I’ve asked you several times to explain how his economic policies fail. I want the mechanisms and how they work. I want the statistics. I DO NOT want talking points from Salon or Media Matters.

“How about coming up with some ideas and solutions?”

Reaganomics! They worked for JFK, RR, and Bill Clinton.

“Speaking of subsidies how is la Malfa breaking up the family farms to receive more to grow Japanese rice serving US? ”

You really don’t understand commerce do you?

First of all, last time I looked there were no grains of rice with Japanese facial features. And even if there were, what possible difference would it make? (Sentence structure makes all the difference!)

Second, our rice growers sell a lot of rice to nations that consume a lot of rice. Why is that a bad thing? Basic tenet of business, “Find a need and fill it”

And third: You will have to ask Doug la Malfa about his PERSONAL finances.

“You spend your time on this right and left war when bottom line we need to independently monitor politicians who are forced to do certain things to keep their jobs.

When I speak of right and left I am not speaking about money or politicians. I am speaking about principles, ideals, and values. When I’m speaking about people I’m simply describing them according to their principles, ideals and values. Democrats lean left; republicans right. Radicals reside on the far end of each. The radical left has imposed more influence on this nation than any other political group, moving our nation ever more toward a fascistic/Marxist model of government. That is why I focus on the radical left! They are the wealth redistributors always bent on keeping the people rattled and at each others throats to gain power.

Your attention on money and conspiracy clouds your ability to get this and makes it impossible for you to adequately make judgements about how the billionaires spend and for what purpose. You’re an empty boat lost as sea screaming “No fair!”

“Americans are not Republicans and Democrats they are Americans. ”

Of course we are all Americans, but if you think we share the same ideals and goals, you don’t know the people.

I’m here on this blog almost daily with the goal of informing people and restoring America to her intended state! The radical left wants no part of that. They prefer the failing nations of Europe, the nations whose people often flock to America for freedom and opportunity. Soon there will be no place on earth to flock to if they continue their march toward the socialist model.

You are correct about corrupt people in positions of power. It is our job to be vigilant and throw them out. It is the job of the justice system to bring law breakers among them to justice. The people in high places are often the ones who are corrupt…current Justice is one of the worst.

“I should have the right to know what I eat, if it is GMO, how it was grown and be able to make my own choices. That a problem too?”

No, thankfully you live in America. As long as there are people willing to risk money, work, and time to bring the products to your table your desire will be met. It isn’t a right, however, and government shouldn’t try to force what you want on everyone. Those products should be sensibly regulated just as others are. Ultimately what you consume is your own responsibility.

  5. Steve says:

Billions and billions we pay in taxes. In California we pay some of the highest taxes in the nation. And it is never enough. They always are seeking ways to make us pay more. More taxes on our food, our clothes, our energy, our homes. Everything is taxed and more and more everything is monitored. And it is never enough. Ask a liberal what the highest rate of taxation should be and they will never tell you, because to them there is no highest rate. To liberals, we should never keep the profit of our own labor. It should always be redistributed to those who do the least.
And out of these billions of taxes we pay there is never accountability. Does some of it go to help the homeless? Does some of it go to pave our streets? Probably not as much as what goes into the lavish lifestyles of politicians and union bosses.

Do we get anything in return? Our schools are a mess and our streets certainly aren’t paved. But if we dare ask questions we become the accused. We’re greedy. We’re racist, etc. etc.

Liberalism is the problem. It is not about helping the needy or righting the wrongs. It’s used to line the pockets of the elites, and middle class be damned. Obama and the Clintons and even Bernie Sanders will never go without. They are on the gravy train built by the nation each of them hates the most. And they’ll do anything, no matter how disgusting, to get what they want. See the outgoing Democrat Kentucky Governor for example, he just gave voting rights to felons as his parting gift.

Why do democrats want felons to vote? I think it’s freaking obvious.

    • bob says:

Demonrats have a stranglehold on power in this state. And the way things are going you will never see anyone but a Demonrat elected to statewide office in our lifetimes. That’s the way it is, Steve.

Our only hope is the state of Jefferson or fleeing the state.

    • Pie Guevara says:

Re Steve : “Liberalism is the problem. It is not about helping the needy or righting the wrongs. It’s used to line the pockets of the elites, and middle class be damned.”

Yep. But it is not only so called “liberals” who work the system for personal profit.

  6. Pete says:

The truth is that it takes a combination of both taxes and subsidies, in moderation, to keep an economy strong. Also, did you know that ranchers and farmers are heavily subsidized?

I don’t think that today’s Republicans would vote for Reagan, for he was for tearing down walls not building them. A lot of today’s moderate Democrats probably would vote for him. Times have changed.

    • Tina says:

Yes Pete, we are well aware of farm subsidies. (corrected with Apologies to Steve)

I disagree. I think most people would again vote for Reagan.

The wall he “tore down” was worth tearing down. The people that were freed from tyranny and reunited with loved ones appreciated it.

If you’re also referencing the amnesty bill he voted for please recall that it was supposed to solve the problem and be the end of amnesty and the beginning of strong border security:

In 1986 I voted for the Simpson-Mazzoli immigration bill because we were told it would solve the problem of massive illegal immigration. In his diaries, President Ronald Reagan said he was going to sign the bill because we had to regain control of our borders. The Simpson-Mazzoli bill contained three promises:

The government would make a concerted effort to control the borders.

An effective employer verification program would ensure that only legal workers were hired.

One-time amnesty would be granted for people illegally in the United States.

      All three promises were broken.

From Clinton to Obama border issues have remained unresolved. Most plans contain a few basic reforms, pay the taxes, pay a fine, punish companies that hire illegals, etc. Bush claimed he was against amnesty and wanted to increase the green card program to help ameliorate the problem. Clinton and Obama maintained the status quot and tended toward open borders policies to varying degrees. Clinton and Obama encourage illegal border crossings in public comments and overtly bend or break deportation laws.

Times have changed. But a strong leader can help un-muddy the waters. Reagan was just the man to do that.

  7. Libby says:

“Do you think they’ll admit Reagan was right?”

Since he was dead wrong, particularly about that “trickle down” thing, probably not.

    • Tina says:

Even when their own demonstrate that what Reagan said worked…they deny it!

Liberals like Libby, Dewey and Chris just do not think. They do emote and they are perfect little soldiers for the radicals who “inform” them.

  8. Pie Guevara says:

Re : “The link between livestock and climate change isn’t unknown, given that almost a decade ago the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization warned that the meat in consumer diets was releasing more greenhouse gases than transportation.

That study was faulty and bogus.

    • Tina says:

      Yes!

Do you think the greens and vegans have joined up in arms and are attempting a coup?

They’ll force us to subsist on tofu making us weak and emaciated and then they’ll make their move!
