Looking into the Future

by Jack

Virtual reality. Unless you are over 90, those two words should sound familiar, right? Creating a visual virtual reality experience, using specialized headsets or goggles for computer gaming has been around well over a decade, but the quality has never made it worth the price. But, this year a number of major gaming manufacturers are introducing affordable VR headsets with surprising quality. Already on the market are headsets that turn your cell phone into a panoramic game view and for under $20. But, the real VR headsets that actually put you in the game are priced around $800.Oculus-Rift-headset-i-012-940x564

What’s the big deal about virtual reality? As the old saying goes, “don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.” This is the future and it will be used for far more than game enhancement. Imagine medical students doing virtual reality surgery, or your teenage daughter being taught how to drive safely before she ever ventures into traffic. The applications for virtual reality are only limited by your imagination. This is going to be big folks!

VR headsets are already showing great promise in psycho-therapy, architectural design, education, pilot training and some day soon it will be used for front-line fighters because modern aircraft can do more g forces than the human body can withstand.

Companies scrambling to take advantage of this new frontier are Microsoft, Samsung, Google, Nintendo, Oculus, Virtalus, and PlayStation, to name but a few. And you can bet that what costs $800 this year will cost much less in two or three years. So, get ready, the future is here and you’re going to love it.

What will follow these visual enhancements? Would you believe virtual touch?

    Hey, if this takes off, especially the virtual touch thing, maybe Dewey, Libby, and Chris would spend more time j***ing each other off privately rather than in Post Scripts.

    Understanding Hillary and Democrats

      She’s full of gems like that. Most of the time in private which means she’s covert.

      One of my all time condescending favorites was when she told someone asking about how her ideas would hurt small business that she couldn’t be responsible for every underfunded small business. Small business provide a very large portion of the nations jobs…middle class jobs. what has she and her party done but destroy middle class jobs while taking huge amounts of money from big bankers and big business?

      One thing about Trump, he’s right out there.

    • Peggy says:

      Being stupid must be a hidden article in the DNC platform. The whole ACA was passed ONLY by Dems and sold by Obama, Gruber and others on the premise Americans were too stupid to understand it.

      It passed Congress without a single Republican vote. Case close.

    • Dewster says:

      Or they could create the conservative utopia game where one could escape the reality of the real world and pretend Blueberry Pie rules the world.

      No one focuses on you. Try focusing on policy.

    One problem I’ve heard about that needs to be overcome is motion sickness. As a sufferer, it’s hard to imagine being able to fix this problem for those who are afflicted. It will be interesting to see if something can be done about it or if the sea sick among us will just be left out of this game.

    • Pie Guevara says:

      Dramamine doesn’t work? There are other drugs/methods.
      As for this virtual reality stuff, my bet is that it induces motion sickness.
      As for Dewey, Libby, and Chris, you do not need to be in motion for that triumvirate to induce nausea and vomiting.

    Off Topic Again … but this may become our future …

    Understanding Palestinians. the UN, and the American left. Anti-Trump rallies, WTO protests, and Occupy Wall Street come to mind. The future of our education?

    The UNRWA Road to Terror

    • Tina says:

      And still the lefties deny that children are being taught to hate and to kill Jews. This is disgusting, and yet another example of how phony the left supposed hatred of bigotry is.

    Off Topic Yet Again —

    A Major Malaise of Climatology is Pervasive in Science

    Guest Opinion; Dr. Tim Ball

    Scientists lost the scientific script somewhere in the 20th century. The major loss involved the fact that correlation is not cause and effect. It was lost for several reasons:

    Failure to know or consistently apply scientific methods;
    Lack of ethics as the end justifies the means;
    Methods and process are not taught or emphasized;
    People are more willing to bypass or ignore everything for funding;
    Too many are willing to subjugate or exploit research for a political agenda;
    Achieving results to advance a career is more important;
    A person gets caught up in Groupthink as they go along to get along;
    and scientists are unwilling to look to themselves to stop the rot.

    All of these reasons were on display in the leaked emails from the Climatic Research Unit (CRU).

    • Tina says:

      Wow. For all of those screaming “denier” and “liar” this makes pretty clear who the liars have been:

      “On the one hand we are ethically bound to the scientific method, in effect promising to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but, which means that we must include all the doubts, caveats, ifs and buts. On the other hand, we are not just scientists, but human beings as well. And like most people, we’d like to see the world a better place, which in this context translates into our working to reduce the risk of potentially disastrous climate change. To do that we have to get some broad-based support, to capture the publics imagination. That, of course, entails getting loads of media coverage. So we have to offer up scary scenarios, make simplified, dramatic statements, and make little mention of any doubts we might have. This double ethical bind which we frequently find ourselves in cannot be solved by any formula. Each of us has to decide what the right balance is between being effective and being honest.” – (Steve Schneider)

      No, we don’t have to decide. There is no ethical dilemma, there can only be honesty and the truth. As Thomas Jefferson explained, “It is error alone which needs the support of government. Truth can stand by itself.”

      The ultimate compromise to ethical standards was the invention of the “99% of scientists” meme…who couldargue with that, right?

      Bunch of phonies.

      Aside: He Pie (or anyone else), if you’d like to write up an article based on any of these “off topic” comments we’d welcome it. Just post as a comment and remember to put “ATTN TINA” at the top and I’ll get it posted to the front page.

    Well, being off topic is my forte today. Tonight I had an opportunity to watch the historical “Legends and Lies” on Fox News. The next time some left-wjng ***hole like Piss Chris urinates on Fox News, it will take all my will not to bitch slap him or her into a parallel universe.
