It’s an Amazing Race – Full of Surprises!

by Jack

trump2Well, this is the big night for The Donald, he’s going to give his acceptance speech.   It’s another make or break point, another chance to gain some support from the undecided. The big question is can he pull it off?

So far, he’s never failed to disappoint… on the contrary he’s stunned and amazed us. Whether he makes it all the way or not, Trump has still made a great contribution.  He has re-written the campaign rule book; he’s shaken up politics with his candor.  The content of his speech has not been nearly as important as his willingness to be candid and better yet, he’is saying what so many Americans are thinking.   People have been desperate for that kind of (risky) honesty.  This was welcomed by most of us, but not so much by the establishment types.

Many media pundets wondered if allowing Ted Cruz the podium last night was wise? It was not a wise, it was brilliant. The Donald looked magnanimous for offering him the podium as the runner up, but when Cruz delivered his self serving speech, he looked vindictive and petty. He tried to leverage support away from Trump and heted-cruz utterly and totally failed. Cruz said he’s running for president in 4 years, no matter who is in office. Well, last night probably put that idea on hold.

I’m betting The Donald knew if he gave Cruz enough rope he would hang himself and he did exactly that. Cruz was boo’d off the floor. He made a horrible mistake in judging the situation and that called into question his ability to be a leader. At one point it was getting so bad, Cruz’ wife had to be escorted out of the convention center for her own safety.

This morning at the big breakfast meeting Cruz took the podium and everyone burst into a chant, Trump, Trump, Trump! lol Can’t wait to see what’s next.

  1. J. Soden says:

TheDonald knew what was in Cruz’s speech ahead of time and planned accordingly. He also stole some of Ted’s thunder when he appeared in the wings near the end of the speech, and all eyes turned to him.
Sorry, Ted. You shot yourself in the mouth with your “non-endorsement endorsement.”

  2. Roger says:

So your motto is “Party Uber Alles?”

“At one point it was getting so bad, Cruz’ wife had to be escorted out of the convention center for her own safety.”

…And you think Cruz is to blame for this, rather than violent Trump fans?

“The Donald looked magnanimous for offering him the podium as the runner up, but when Cruz delivered his self serving speech, he looked vindictive and petty.”

Do you believe it was vindictive and petty for Donald Trump to call Ted’s wife ugly and his father a murderer who killed JFK? (How about “crazy?” How about “disqualifyingly insane?”)

Cruz did the right thing and will be on the right side of history.

    • Pie Guevara says:

I will not argue Roger’s basic theme, but Trump never called Ted Cruz’s father a murderer who killed JFK. A little reality would be helpful instead of Roger’s (Dewey’s?) hallucinations.

      • Dewster says:

I see Paul Manafort failing to register as a Foreign Agent breaking the law……..

Oh wait that is real! He is a hired Russian Agent! Lobbies for Russia!~ now how is it he became Trumps Campaign Mgr?

He ripped off the Russian Oligarch’s? and now Trump is Prez they no longer go for the money back?

  3. Tina says:

Jack it should be a great night.

The media for Hillary journalists continue to openly trash the convention, Trump and his family…bunch of phonies pretending to be serious news journalists.

Michael Moore predicted The Donald will win.

It’s been as crazy as we knew it would be. Looking forward to the debate/s.

  4. Peggy says:

Don’t agree Jack. According to everything I’ve read Cruz was set up by Trump and the RNC. His speech was sent by Cruz days before, vetted, approved and loaded into the teleprompter that afternoon. So, there is no way they didn’t know what Cruz was going to say.

What they did, according to those there, was have the RNC staff wearing yellow hats “whip” up the delegates to “boo” at the exact same time Trump entered the back of the arena getting the delegates to turn their backs to Cruz.

Cruz and every married couple took an oath before God to love, honor, respect and to forsake all others for their spouses. He honored that promise to God last night when he defended his wife’s attack from Trump. I admired Cruz before last night and I admire him more today. He went into that arena last night and kept his promise to “support” the candidate which he promised to do and kept his promise to God too. No man could have done more.

I was on the verge of voting for Trump this November, but after reading so much today about what actually went down I don’t know if I will or not. He has big damage control to undertake. The Texas delegates say they will walk out tonight if he attacks Cruz.

Here in part is what I’ve read.

Here’s Everything You Need To Know About Cruz’s ‘Vote Your Conscience’ Speech:

“So, as the dust settles from the chaos that broke out on the convention floor over Senator Ted Cruz’s (R-TX) speech failing to openly endorse Donald Trump, here are some facts upon which to reflect:
1.Donald Trump knew Cruz’s speech text in advance.
2.Cruz told Trump two days in advance that he would not endorse him.
3.The speech itself congratulated Trump on winning the nomination, ripped Hillary Clinton, extolled freedom, and then told Americans to vote their conscience.
4.When Cruz gave the pre-approved speech clearly ripping Hillary and telling Americans to vote based on principle, Trump minions reportedly began whipping the crowd into boos. Paul Manafort reportedly “grinned and chuckled when asked by Mark Halperin if Trump aides encouraged boos of Cruz from the floor.”
5.Trump obviously knew what was coming, too, and entered the arena as Cruz concluded his speech, before Cruz was booed off the stage.

Trump has now tweeted out a slap at Cruz: “Ted Cruz booed off the stage, didn’t honor the pledge! I saw his speech two hours early but let him speak anyway. No big deal!” Sean Spicer of the pathetic Republican National Convention said that he was “hoping for better,” even though the text was pre-screened. Donald Trump Jr. appeared with Sean Hannity to exclaim, “The best unity I saw was everyone booing [Cruz] off the stage.”

EXCLUSIVE: Cruz Camp: Trump Campaign Approved Speech, ‘Orchestrated’ RNC Blowback To ‘Make Cruz a Pariah’:

“According to the source, the entire Cruz speech was cleared by the Trump campaign. Paul Manafort, Trump’s campaign manager, expressly approved the speech at 4:30 PM ET. The source, who was standing on the convention floor at the time of the speech, said that Trump operatives were present, urging the crowd to boo. “This was orchestrated by the Trump campaign to make Senator Cruz a pariah within the party,” said the source.

“We made this arrangement weeks ago regarding the speech,” the source continued. “We said we wouldn’t cause trouble with the delegates, that Senator Cruz would give a speech, that Senator Cruz would not endorse. They agreed to that. That was always the deal. They saw the speech beforehand and knew what Senator Cruz would be saying. They offered no pushback on the speech whatsoever.”

In fact, the source added, a few hours before the speech, the Trump campaign had been in negotiations with Cruz for Cruz to play a larger role in the campaign, including advising on Israel policy. Minutes after the speech ended, the source noted, the Trump campaign instantly informed them that the offer had been withdrawn.”

Ted Cruz accepts Donald Trump’s invitation to speak at GOP convention, but does not endorse: (Meeting in DC July 7th with Priebus, Trump, Cruz)

“Sen. Ted Cruz told Donald Trump at a closed-door meeting in Washington, DC, on Thursday that he would be “happy” to speak at this month’s Republican National Convention.

“We had a positive and productive meeting this morning with Donald Trump. Donald asked me to speak at the Republican convention and I told him I’d be happy to do so,” Cruz told reporters.

Cruz spokeswoman Catherine Frazier said in a statement that there was “no discussion of any endorsement” at the meeting.”

Everyone Should be Supporting what Cruz Said Last Night:

“For all of the complaining that the Trump camp (and I include his many followers in that term) has done over what Cruz said, his position really was the most principled one anyone could take. Note, I’m saying his was literally the most principled position logically possible. Cruz didn’t endorse Trump, and he didn’t endorse #NeverTrump. In fact, Cruz’s position made me rethink my own #neverTrump commitments, but I’ll get to that in due time. For now, let’s look at why Cruz’s position is actually the most principled.

I think the clarifying comments that Cruz made at his meeting with the Texas delegation demonstrate the mind behind what he said. First off, let’s admit that for Cruz, it was personal. Donald Trump attacked Cruz (“lyin’ Ted”), his wife (posting a picture of her and insinuating she was ugly, and threatening to spill the beans on her), and his father (if you don’t know, you’ve been living in a cave). Therefore, Cruz admits that he would have a very hard time endorsing someone who went there and who has still not apologized.”

    • Libby says:

Your crafty nominee certainly took advantage of the opportunity Cruz presented, but if it were truly a set up, would Cruz still be stuck in the craw of your nominee … as he apparently is?

We are having fun. And I predict that that a substantial portion of your Republican elite will be spending the next three months barely sober.

  5. Peggy says:

    Remember this?

Donald Trump was never going to keep his Republican loyalty pledge. Not ever.:

Trump told CNN’s Anderson Cooper at a town hall event in Milwaukee on Tuesday night that his loyalty pledge was no longer binding. Here’s the exchange:

ANDERSON COOPER: Before we go back to the audience, I want to ask you a question I asked to Senator Cruz as well. More than six months ago you pledged to support the Republican nominee, whoever that may be.

A lot has changed since then. It sounded, when I was pressing Senator Cruz on it, sounded like he was saying he’d have a hard time supporting somebody who went after his wife.

TRUMP: Honestly, he doesn’t have to support me. I’m not asking for his support. I want the people’s support.

    (APPLAUSE)

COOPER: Do you continue to pledge whoever the Republican nominee is?

    TRUMP: No. I don’t anymore.

    COOPER: You don’t?

TRUMP: No, we’ll see who it is.

  6. Tina says:

As anyone can see it no longer matters. Trump has been selected.

    Hillary will soon be crowned.

Next up…debates. Who knows what will happen. If Hillary gets one of her coughing fits or needs a bathroom break that lasts longer than the commercial break…wait, she’ll probably rely on depends!
