Have You Heard About “The 2020 #Calexit Independence Referendum”?

Posted by Tina

I just tuned in to the DNC convention and Elizabeth Warren was splaining how Trump has no real policies to create jobs or help people. As usual she’s full of “it” and so, bored, I got back on the computer and discovered that apparently “Brexit” has set a few wheels in motion here in California. The website, Yes California wants Cali to be an independent nation:

On November 3, 2020, Californians will go to the polls to elect the next president of the United States along with the California delegation to the District of Columbia. While voting, you will also answer the question: “Should California be an independent country?” We are waiting until the 2020 presidential election in order to ensure as high a voter turnout as possible so we have an honest referendum result.

This is a very important question. It is the responsibility of this campaign to explain what a yes vote will mean for you, your family, your community, our state, our country, and our world. As the sixth largest economy in the world, California is more economically powerful than France and has a population larger than Poland. Point by point, California compares and competes with countries, not just the 49 other member states of the American Union.

In our view, the American Union represents so many things that conflict with Californian values, and our continued membership means California will continue subsidizing the other member states to our own detriment and to the detriment of our children. (continues)

it’s interesting to note that this group believes it’s “…about the right to self-determination and the concept of voluntary association, both of which are supported by the United Nations.”
This update includes the following: June 23rd’s #Brexit vote resulted in 52% of the United Kingdom voting to leave the European Union. An informal poll of 9,000 Californians conducted by the organization this past February resulted in 41% in favor of California leaving the American Union.”

Who’s behind this? A guy named Louis J. Marinelli of San Diego:

The candidate for Assembly (from San Diego) has paid $200 a pop to try to get nine initiatives on a statewide ballot, all of them about making California not an entirely separate country but a “first among equals” sovereign entity distinct from those 49 also-rans. He already has the green light to collect the nearly 400,000 required signatures on six of his measures, with three still awaiting the go-ahead.

Although Marinelli knows his ideas for promoting California are unorthodox — check out his “Between Two Flags” YouTube sendup of the Zach Galifianakis talk show parody “Between Two Ferns” — he’s serious about getting California the status he thinks it deserves. Starting on Labor Day, he’s taking his pitch to the state Capitol grounds. Look for his group there, because his signature-gatherers will surely be looking for you.

Why are you doing this? You weren’t even born in California.

I was born in upstate New York and moved here in 2006. It was one of the greatest accidents of my life. I’m Californicated, I guess you’d say. I feel like an immigrant who moved here from another country. I just love California. What’s going on in the U.S. politically and culturally is so different from what’s happening here. I want California to be all it can, and our group feels the political and cultural connection to the U.S. is holding us back from our potential.

We’re not trying a 1860s breakaway; we’re talking about California being recognized as a nation within a nation, like Scotland in the United Kingdom. We feel California is more than just a state. That’s what this campaign is about. (continues)

Read the blog here.

Will it spark new interest in Northern California for Jefferson? From what I’ve read it would make a Jerry Brown president and he and the legislature would immediately confiscate guns disappointing the Second Ammendment loving, ACLU member Louis Marinelli.

Any thoughts?

They had best look around a bit harder, the exit of industry and wage earners began a while back, soon the liberals will have to supply all the” others peoples money” themselves, isn’t that a kick in the rear, they building their own mouse trap!

    • Libby says:

So you tuned out the reality and went looking for a fantasy? Why am I not surprised?

But I’m not surprised you couldn’t take it. You put Elizabeth up against Chachi, and Chachi don’t come off so good.

But Michelle was the very best. Nailed his slats to the barn door without ever using his name. Classy.

And we can’t be the sixth largest economy on the planet AND hemorrhaging jobs and industry. So for every greedy Republican we lose, we must be gaining from somewhere Dem … and then the greedy Repugs come back, because if you’re not going to pay the help enough to keep a car that runs, you’ve got to have public transit … and pay for it.

Harold you’re on to them for sure. Since so many California liberals are the rich it couldn’t happen to a more deserving group. California will finally become the home they’ve been building, filled with dependents, slave wage workers, and the elite.
