Segregated ‘safe spaces’
Black college students across the country have demanded that they be segregated from white peers, calling for “safe spaces” on campuses meant only for so-called students of color.
The requests for segregated spaces are found among some of the demand lists put forth by students who took part in protests this fall alleging their campuses are oppressive, discriminatory, and represent institutionalized racism.
The demands have been presented to campus administrators and are chronicled by TheDemands.org, a website run by a racial advocacy group called the Black Liberation Collective.
Follow the link for a list of 76 demands. Demands? Since when are college students in the “demand” business? “Gimme, gimme, gimme” connotes a measure of spoiled brat to me. These students don’t seem to appreciate what their forefathers won…freedom to freely associate!
The university system in California is in the news today and clearly going for segregation! Students have demanded and gotten black only accommodations in the last two years.
How far are we going to take this? It certainly isn’t indicative of the civil rights era when blacks fought for integration and the removal of such segregation symbols as separate water fountains and restrooms for blacks. So is this really about “safe spaces” or is it about segregation, or worse, white hatred?
What’s next, drinking fountains marked “whites?”
I don’t have any idea how far this will go, but there is a difference here. Classic race segregation was involuntary for blacks. This sort of segregation would be voluntary.
Now, suppose it were whites making these demands for segregated housing and white safe places? How would THAT be received? I think we all know the answer to that question.
Back in the 90’s a white student started a white student organization at Sacramento State College. For the charter, he took the La Raza student organization charter word-for-word except for substituting “latino” or other words reference latin “race” for white.
He created a ***t storm on campus and was denied recognition by the university.
Personally, I think colleges should force integration and make students live like they will have to live in the real world. The University of Chicago gets it right —

I think these students should live as they will live in the world also. In fact I think the new nationwide curriculum K-12 should include golden rule discipline…no exceptions.
It continues to be mind boggling that the same type of person demanding safe spaces is also likely for open borders. Just goes to show there is no foundational stability behind progressive (or liberation theology) thought.

To the extent that whites are to be purposely excluded it is not voluntary for them. Whites, especially white men, have been pushed to the back of the bus in college admissions over several decades now. This has been true in the workplace as well. Policies to control and mandate in the name of fairness and special rights are destroying the whole concept of equal treatment and individual choice.
The poor little snowflakes who have been given participation awards instead of being encouraged to excel are now unable to cope with the reality that “life is not fair.”
Safe spaces are a joke. When do terrorist attack victims get to have a “safe space?”
The supreme court ruled on segregation years ago. Guess the PC BS higher education Libbies missed that story.

A decade or two ago they would have been talking about “fair” housing…that word has been impugned of late so the pivot is toward “safe.” Funny since they’ve made this world of our so much less safe.
You can thank Chris and his ilk for that. The dead Quentin Colgan went over the edge Chris is headed for and was banned from teaching in California. Even the extreme left wing lunatics that run California’s Department of “Education” have limits.
