Indians Get Their Way – Arab Oil Dependence Stronger – National Security Weakened

by Jack

It is an issue that has galvanized many Native Americans tribes, environmentalists, leftist activists and even the Green Party.

These groups claim the Trans Canada Keystone XL (Export Limited) Pipeline, will destroy and poison huge swathes of Indian lands and irreversibly pollute large parts of Alberta, Canada and the United States all the way to the Gulf of Mexico.

pipeline9highres_Let’s face it, big oil doesn’t have the best reputation, but this time around all concerns are being addressed and both the feds and the oil companies are going the extra distance to address all concerns and do it right.

The pipeline builders and the federal government overseers have virtually bent over backwards to accommodate the protesters in every way, answering every question, taking extra precautions, diverting around sensitive areas. Fact finding meetings have been held, evidence has been presented and every single concern raised by the protest groups has been investigated by an independent 3rd party who found them largely without merit.

Let me make this clear, almost every time a protest groups concerns or allegations are investigated they have been determined to be 100% baseless assumptions! The Indian tribes opposition has not met in good faith; they have simply rejected all evidence and defiantly refused to hear expert testimony. Extremists are in control and they just don’t want the pipeline…period. Nothing anyone can say or do will convince them otherwise because they are anti-oil fanatics.

Even though the protesters claims and assumptions about Keystone and the North Dakota pipeline are about as credible as Democrat Sen. Elizabeth Warren claim to be a Native American, they still have Obama’s support. The Obama administration halted vital work on a huge oil pipeline in North Dakota on Friday, handing a victory to tribal and environmental activists who have staged a growing protest portraying the $3.7 billion project as the successor to the vanquished Keystone XL.

Just minutes after a federal judge denied the Standing Rock Sioux tribe’s legal bid for an immediate stop to work on the Dakota Access pipeline, three federal agencies announced they would effectively pause work along the most hotly disputed section of the project. The move was yet another setback for America to be oil independent. This came less than a year after Obama handed climate activists a huge victory by rejecting Keystone.

Folks we were about to add billions to our economy and thousands of new jobs, now that may be a pipe dream. There are many who would like us to remain at the mercy of Arab oil production and send our dollars overseas and they manipulate our “useful fools” to meet their goals.

    ” … thousands of new jobs ….”

Don’t fudge facts to support your argument. It would be hundreds of temporary jobs. However, I was won over by the facts (real ones, not fudged ones) that the Canadians cannot be prevented from selling it, nor Southern refineries from buying it … and it’s less mess-making in a pipeline than in rail cars.

Now, what they have to do is, indeed, hire people to patrol the pipeline in perpetuity. That’ll put a crimp in those cost savings. And it would employ a quantity of people that globalization has rendered unemployable.

    • Pie Guevara says:

No, Lippy, thousands. You have a problem with “temporary jobs.” Why to you resent such employment? Why do you resent the efficient transportation of oil?

A crimp in cost savings? What kind of crap is that? Put up some figures or shut the hell up you mindless windbag.

Last question — Why are you an idiot?

        Bar Stool Economics

Suppose that every day, ten men go out for beer and the bill for all ten comes to $100. If they paid their bill the way we pay our taxes, it would go something like this:

The first four men (the poorest) would pay nothing.
        The fifth would pay $1.
        The sixth would pay $3.
        The seventh would pay $7.
        The eighth would pay $12.
        The ninth would pay $18.
The tenth man (the richest) would pay $59.

So, that’s what they decided to do. The ten men drank in the bar every day and seemed quite happy with the arrangement, until one day, the owner threw them a curve. ‘Since you are all such good customers, he said, ‘I’m going to reduce the cost of your daily beer by $20. Drinks for the ten now cost just $80.

The group still wanted to pay their bill the way we pay our taxes so the first four men were unaffected. They would still drink for free. But what about the other six men – the paying customers? How could they divide the $20 windfall so that everyone would get his “fair share”? They realized that $20 divided by six is $3.33. But if they subtracted that from everybody’s share, then the fifth man and the sixth man would each end up being paid to drink his beer. So, the bar owner suggested that it would be fair to reduce each man’s bill by roughly the same amount, and he proceeded to work out the amounts each should pay.

        And so:
The fifth man, like the first four, now paid nothing (100% savings).
The sixth now paid $2 instead of $3 (33%savings).
The seventh now pay $5 instead of $7 (28%savings).
The eighth now paid $9 instead of $12 (25% savings).
The ninth now paid $14 instead of $18 (22% savings).
The tenth now paid $49 instead of $59 (16% savings).

Each of the six was better off than before. And the first four continued to drink for free. But once outside the restaurant, the men began to compare their savings.

‘I only got a dollar out of the $20,’declared the sixth man. He pointed to the tenth man,’ but he got $10!’

‘Yeah, that’s right,’ exclaimed the fifth man. ‘ I only saved a dollar, too. It’s unfair that he got ten times more than I!’

‘That’s true!!’ shouted the seventh man. ‘Why should he get $10 back when I got only two? The wealthy get all the breaks!’

‘Wait a minute,’ yelled the first four men in unison. ‘We didn’t get anything at all. The system exploits the poor!’

The nine men surrounded the tenth and beat him up.
The next night the tenth man didn’t show up for drinks, so the nine sat down and had beers without him. But when it came time to pay the bill, they discovered something important. They didn’t have enough money between all of them for even half of the bill!

And that, boys and girls, journalists and college professors, is how our tax system works. The people who pay the highest taxes get the most benefit from a tax reduction. Tax them too much, attack them for being wealthy, and they just may not show up anymore. In fact, they might start drinking overseas where the atmosphere is somewhat friendlier.

I’m sorry, Pie … did you say something?

  2. dewster says:

    OMG do your homework.

So let us look at the history of leaks. The cost to taxpayers to clean up the aftermath. The actual number of permanent jobs. What country the materials are bought from. Then why even China is going to renewable energy.

Then lets look at the damage the industry has done to the new gold #Water.

Oh but that’s right as long as you have clean water who cares about the others right?

Do you even care the CA Aquifers have been contaminated for decades with waste?

Poor Poor oil companies. I think we should allow them to contaminate all waterways! The Billionaires need more money!

    You watch too Much Fox

Hey how do you clean up an tar sands? Why is the Gulf still screwed up? How about that contaminated Tar Sands Snow in Alberta? cancer? Hey as long as it is not in your backyard right?

I say we need to get some pipelines running through Chico, Get some Fracking waste dumped into their water. Do not stop until their faucets light on fire and watch this tune change

    #SELFISH

You need to do some research

You upbraid others for failing to look at facts and yet provide none of your own.

Given the tone of your comment I’d say the sources you prefer are written by enviro-extremists who operate fraudulently and unethically.

“The cost to taxpayers to clean up the aftermath…”

Most of the clean up cost for spills is born by the oil companies. The gulf spill cost BP about $40 billion.

Unfortunately, much of the so-called science put out by radical environmentalists cannot be trusted. They tend to avoid the scientific method, conspire to politically control the narrative, and go to extremes in their conclusions and predictions.

Fortunately, there are people with valid concerns about caring for our environment who use their time and talents to make a real difference:

An 18-year-old from Canada has invented a way to clean up the toxic waste produced from extracting oil from tar sands. Hayley Todesco used knowledge gained from fifth grade science to come up with a filtration system using sand and bacteria to quickly break down the waste. …

… Todesco remembered a sand filter that her class had made in fifth grade that completely cleaned muddy water that was poured over it. She combined that knowledge with an interest she had in biology and bioreactors that use bacteria to break down waste. She figured combining sand and bacteria would make a device that was far more effective.

With help from University of Calgary professor Lisa Gieg who let her work in her lab, Todesco began a seven month process to create a filter device that could break down naphthenic acid, a major toxic component of the oil sands tailings. She cobbled together a system that used aquarium sand, empty IV bags, and other materials she picked up at hardware and dollar stores. The finished product uses gravity to pull oil sands waste through IV bags filled with sand topped with a film of bacteria.

Once she got a working system, it took another year and half of testing and analysis, but ultimately her invention was able to break down toxic compounds from tar sands waste 14 times more quickly than the current method of containing it in tailings ponds. That means a large-scale technology that incorporates her findings could get toxic waste out of the tar sands area in decades instead of centuries.

Those who work in the industry are constantly looking for solutions to make their products safer for humans and the environment. They should be praised not denigrated.

So Dewey I suggest you can take your nasty attitude and run it elsewhere. As it turns out you aren’t the smart person you think you are.

McCarthy is a master! He concludes:

While Clinton may not have been motivated to harm our national security, she was precisely motivated to conceal the corrupt interplay of the State Department and the Clinton Foundation. That was the real objective of the home-brew server system: Mrs. Clinton wanted to shield from Congress, the courts, and the public the degree to which she, Bill, and their confederates were cashing in on her awesome political influence as secretary of state. That is exactly why she did business outside the government system that captures all official e-mails; and, critically, it perfectly explains why she deleted and attempted to destroy 33,000 e-mails — risibly claiming they involved yoga routines, Chelsea’s wedding, and the like.

Her selfish motivations have harmed national security. Her dumb blonde routine alone, “You mean, like with a cloth?” disqualified her from ever holding any office.

    The Indians Win?

What is that? So now protecting their own land is a problem?

These pipelines have nothing to do with American independence. KXL is to take the worst dirty oil to refineries in TEXAS where they can only refine this type. Then export it. Namely to CHINA.

THERE ARE SEVERAL LEAKS AS WE SPEAK

Water is a national security risk, not Canadian Tar Sands that we do not want to use.

Time is now to separate fascism.
