Trump Signs Executive Order to Cut Duplication and Waste in Government

Posted by Tina

President Trump signed an executive order today, the “Comprehensive Plan for Reorganizing the Executive Branch,” which he expects could save billions of dollars to make the government more efficient and practical. The order is in support of Trumps soon to be released budget and relies on “recommendations from government auditors” and input from various people in the public and private sector. Trump even wants to hear from the public.

It’s refreshing to have a leader who is willing to tackle the excesses of government. Instead of merely fighting about budgets and program cuts he is finally demanding something many Americans have seen as a serious problem in both parties for decades, wasteful and indifferent management of the peoples money.

Paul Bedard highlights some of the challenges in his article for the Washington Examiner:

Under President Obama, our National debt grew by 88 percent from $10.6 trillion on January 20, 2009, to $19.9 trillion on January 19, 2017.

— Every child born today inherits over $61,000 in debt.

— In April 2016, the Government Accountability Office (GAO) reported that the Executive Branch and Congress failed to fully address a majority of the government fragmentation, overlap, and duplication identified by the GAO.

— The Executive Branch has failed to fully follow through 53 percent of the time, failing to act on 243 of the 459 identified instances of bureaucratic duplication and waste.

— Congress has failed to fully follow through 62 percent of the time, failing to act on 53 of the 85

identified instances of bureaucratic duplication and waste.

— In 2016, the GAO identified 92 more instances of duplication and waste.

It’s easy to see that billions of tax dollars are wasted and mishandled yearly by our government. It should be clear that this is not a partisan issue. And it should be a no-brainer for Americans to align behind this effort to hold those who serve us in government to a very high standard when it comes to spending our money. They already have a fiduciary responsibility to do so…we have just let them get away with slovenly work for far too long.

Kudos Mr. President!

How refreshing after 8 years of prolifigate spending and goofernment growth! Well done, Mr. President!

Why is Breitbart (aka Bannon) attacking Ryan & Co, I wonder?

You know, this country does not run on “executive orders”, it runs on law. Now, the workings of our legislative branch may not be fun to watch, but they are very democratic. You all, around here, seem only too willing to join in the denigration of our Congress, as a democratic entity. No patience with it, have you?

Understandable, but also just the tiniest bit fascistic … you want to be aware of this tendency.

    • Tina says:

Because we on the right do not walk in lock step…we are not robotic, mind numbed or nimble.

Would that you had shown the slightest concern over Obama’s executive orders.

Come on Libby. Public debate about what is being considered by Congress is a long-standing part of our process. What stands out to me is the lack of criticism from you civilians of the left persuasion when your guys are in power. You walk and talk the line…good little comrades all. I would say that behavior is much more fascistic…rainbow shirts and all!

Be aware and criticize your own house!

      • Libby says:

Again, your partisan blinders … blind you. There was no end of angsting over the O-man’s resort to EO’s toward the end of his term. You couldn’t blame him for being frustrated with our decidedly do-nothing Congress, but pundits of all persuasions made a great deal of noise about the democratically unhealthy turn. The accumulation of “executive power” has just about kept pace with the political fracturing of our society, and this is how democracies fail.

However, Trump’s behavior is, astoundingly, so very extreme, that he will provoke increased political awareness of the problem … I like to think.

        • Libby says:

Now, this is my idea of a statesman. CNN reports:

Grassley — a stalwart Republican with a powerful post — expressed his exasperation the FBI hours before a private meeting at the Capitol with Comey. He called the scheduled meeting a “positive step,” but also added: “I don’t want to say that’s enough at this point.”
Grassley said he was frustrated that officials haven’t been as forthcoming as lawmakers would like, and said his committee hasn’t been given the respect it deserves for its oversight of the executive branch.

The man is paying attention. HE is a Republican. You all have to found yourselves another party … Right Wing Nuts of America !

        • Tina says:

On the contrary I can blame him for the “do nothing” congress. Congress passed bills that were all dead on arrival. He announced they would be. What incentive is there to work when the man at the top won’t play? He was responsible for the lack of cooperation between he and congress. It was his way or the highway all the way…and then he announced to he world that he would be forced to act since Congress wouldn’t. What a jackass!

This is how democracies fail? No shirt shotlock!

Too bad you can’t see how responsible your party is for the crater that exists between the left and right. Under Kennedy we were still all Americans first. since then you have pushed this nation leftward in the extreme! This nation was never designed around socialism…guess which party has taken us down that road? Guess which side decided special rights should displace individual rights, so necessary to the experience of equality?

What is “extreme” to you is what we had during Kennedy’s time. You don’t get that Trump represents the nation pushing back on you and the radically extreme march toward socialism you represent.

I suspect your real fear is that young people will find out that they can find good jobs when tax rates are low and when American companies can compete on the world stage. You’re afraid he will find a way to negotiate with other leaders to improve their economies. You’re really afraid of finding out you’re wrong.

Heaven forbid you allow the man a couple of years to find out.

    Really? How extraordinary!

And dangerous. Imagine! Allowing American citizens to think for themselves!

    Scandalous, simply scandalous!

    • Dewster says:

Tina let us talk about specific things shall we? Where he cuts and who gains from it

You throw this crap out… pick one

Republican Rep. Ed Royce of California, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said in a statement, “I am very concerned by reports of deep cuts that could damage efforts to combat terrorism, save lives, and create opportunities for American workers.”

Republican Rep. Ed Royce of California, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said in a statement, “I am very concerned by reports of deep cuts that could damage efforts to combat terrorism, save lives, and create opportunities for American workers.”

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C.,…… called Trump’s governing priority list “dead on arrival,” based on a reported blueprint. “What’s most disturbing about the cut to the State Department’s budget is it shows a lack of understanding of what it takes to win the war,”

Republican Rep. Ed Royce of California, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, said in a statement, “I am very concerned by reports of deep cuts that could damage efforts to combat terrorism, save lives, and create opportunities for American workers.”

The budget plan calls for about $1.5 billion in immediate funding to build the wall and another $2.6 billion to fund border security in 2018.
“If we’re paying for it, it’s a significant concern,” Arizona Republican Sen. Jeff Flake told the Washington Post on the eve of Trump’s budget release.

They are all fighting because until all taxes go to donor causes and taxpayers are left to rot no one is happy in GOP land.

      • Tina says:

You, who say all of congress is crooked, now finds a few friends on the right?

Of all people, you should know that what they want is the status quo…they want things to go on as usual! They don’t want the budget messing with their revenue streams or their pork projects. Democrats are fighting for the same thing.

The voters put them ALL on notice when they elected DT.

THE FEDERAL BUDGET: How to Get Spending Under Control, by by Scott A. Hodge and Geoffrey Freeman

Duplication and program overlap in the federal government are widespread. For example:

Job training. Taxpayers spend $20 billion per year for 165 job-training programs that are administered by 15 different federal agencies. Moreover, the GAO has found that most federal agencies are unable to determine the effectiveness of their programs.

Economic development. There are 342 economic development programs managed by 13 agencies, and little or no coordination.

Juvenile programs. Ten departments, three independent agencies, one federal commission, one presidential council, and one quasi-official agency administer 131 juvenile programs at a cost of $4 billion per year.

Education. The federal education bureaucracy involves more than 788 programs in 40 different federal agencies at a cost of nearly $100 billion each year. An estimated 30 cents of every federal educational dollar is lost in overhead and never makes it to the classroom.

War on drugs. At least 70 programs across 57 different departments and agencies receive over $16 billion a year to fight illegal drug use. Among the most blatant examples of government waste and mismanagement, however, are the 19 drug “intelligence centers” dispersed among 10 departments; much of the information generated by these centers is off-limits to other agencies.

Food safety. HHS and Agriculture are among 16 different agencies that address food safety.

Statistics. Producing and publishing statistical data on the country’s economic and social makeup involves 70 different agencies within 12 Cabinet departments.

Those examples are a drop in the bucket. Our government spends money wastefully. It is ridiculous to stand by and do nothing about it, demand nothing of them. It’s really dumb to think making the rich pay more is the solution.

Trump is someone they’ve never seen before. A man asking them and the departments of government to be fiscally responsible!
