Swamp Arrest!

Yesterday it was reported that most government employees receive much higher salaries and perks than people working in similar jobs in the private sector:

Federal workers are much better off than private-sector workers in all the major markers of job satisfaction – salary, job security, benefits and job desirability. …

… According to the report, titled “Mapping the Swamp” and released by government watchdog group OpenTheBooks, 400,000 federal employees make more than $100,000 a year, 30,000 make more than $190,000 and 78 departments and agencies have an average employee salary of $100,000 or more.

It also revealed that the average federal employee is given considerable paid time-off, including 10 federal holidays, 13 sick days and 20 vacation days per year.

Job security used to be the incentive for working for government. It seems there’s more of an elitist sense of entitlement and privilege going on now. But the imbalance in pay can grate even more when we read a headline like the following: Police: U.S. HHS employee solicits ‘teen’ via Craigslist, requests lewd sex acts”:

Court filings list Goldrosen as the director of State/HIV Programs for the Health Resources and Services Administration’s HIV/AIDS Bureau. The office is located in a mid-rise building at 5600 Fishers Lane in Rockville, less than one mile from the Twinbrook Metro Station. Court documents additionally state Goldrosen has been with the federal agency for nearly three years, earning an annual salary of $140,000.

Related information from the the webpage, Downsizing Government gives some perspective:

The department will spend $1.131 trillion in 2017…adjusting for inflation, spending has more than doubled since 2000. The department employs 72,000 workers and runs more than 520 subsidy programs.

High salaries, lots of vacation time, big retirement packages and more…given what’s going on in Hollywood and elsewhere I doubt he’s the only one engaging in lewd or lascivious conduct…I’d like to know if any of it occurred at work.

Well, there’s more than one way to drain this swamp but we might have to build a few prisons!
