Johnny Visits the House of Representatives

Posted by Jack with a little help from Harold

In May 2018, Pelosi said “The wall is in my view immoral” on “Meet the Press. She has repeated that meme a number of times since.

——————————————————————————————————-

One day Nancy Pelosi met with a tour group of 5th graders from Iowa. When she was done giving a short speech, she asked if anyone had any questions?

Little Johnny raised his hand and when called on he said politely, “Why did you say a wall was immoral?”

Speaker Pelosi was a little taken back by the question, but, she replied quickly, “Because a lot of people want to come here and share in our abundance and a wall would keep them out.”

Not satisfied with her answer little Johnny asked, “So why is there a Pearly Gate in Heaven and why does St. Peter stand guard there?  If there is a Gate there has to be a wall, right? And are you saying you know more than God and that he is being immoral?”

Pelosi threw up her hands and  stammered, mmm, bu-bu-bu, mmm, uh, uh, uh, followed a long silence. Her eyes bulged, her face turned white and her body became rigid.

The teacher said, “Well that’s enough questions for now class. Lets go visit Johnnies Gram-pa Mitch McConnell in the Senate, our work is done here.

Wow, Strawman Nancy Pelosi sure is stupid!

    Why didn’t she just say:

    –Human beings are not God.
–Heaven probably doesn’t have a literal, physical wall, since it’s a spiritual realm. The gate is a metaphor.
–Experts say a wall will not actually work to keep people out, whereas presumably, an all-powerful God would be able to do that just fine.
–It is ridiculous to compare a final, spiritual judgment in the afterlife to our treatment of live human beings on this earth.
–St. Peter keeps people out of Heaven after they’ve died, whereas Trump’s Wall will likely cause more deaths. https://www.aclutx.org/en/publications/death-damage-and-failure-impacts-walls-us-mexico-border
–Hey, maybe it is also immoral for the Christian God to keep people out of Heaven simply for not being Christians. Lots of people don’t subscribe to Christianity for this very reason.
–We’re not a theocracy, so I don’t have to base my position on the Wall on your overly literal interpretation of how the afterlife works based on your religious texts.

That’s…seven counter-arguments, off the top of my head.

And you and Harold couldn’t think of one. You really thought this was a stumper that destroyed Pelosi’s argument.

    Amazing.

Oh, did little Johnny mention that ‘Hell ‘is wide open? A lot like California these days!

Lordy Lord, does that Chris person always git so riled up bout nothing, Dang ifn’ he don’t act as if the cheese fell off his cracker.

    • Chris says:

The Wall, and Trump’s unconstitutional efforts to build it by declaring a “national emergency” that everyone knows doesn’t exist, isn’t “nothing.” Thus, the attempts to defend it aren’t nothing either. The stupidity that allows people to believe the argument quoted in this article is convincing is worth calling out. Think.

ED’s NOTE; It was a work of fiction and humor to illustrate a counter point to Pelosi’s absurd argument that a wall is immoral.

Yes, we know that. But it absolutely fails to do that, because the counterpoint is completely illogical, as I demonstrated. Thus, it fails to be funny for anyone who even gives it two seconds thought.

But that isn’t the target audience. The target audience is people who won’t think about it.

Well, you gotta consider … it’s a serious quandary for a total stranger like this fictional Ms. Pelosi. How do you deal with a 10-year-old? … or a 60-year-old, whose world view is all fabrications, fairy tales, fibs and prejudice?

You could explain that the wall itself is not immoral, but the motivations behind it are. That’s gonna be a bit deep for an Iowan, though.
