Quid Pro Quo – So What?

by Jack

“A growing number of Senate Republicans are ready to acknowledge that President Trump used U.S. military aid as leverage to force Ukraine to investigate former vice president Joe Biden and his family as the president repeatedly denies a quid pro quo.

In this shift in strategy to defend Trump, these Republicans are insisting that the president’s action was not illegal and does not rise to the level of an impeachable offense as the Democratic-led House moves forward with the open phase of its probe.”

Trump is not a politician, he’s a CEO.  He is acting exactly like a company boss.  But, in the role of a politician he is constrained by the sometimes absurd, sometimes unfathomable nuances, of D.C. politics and he’s opening himself up to criticism.  But, I don’t see anything malicious here, do you?  It’s just very petty stuff, except for Biden’s corruption allegations; that’s not petty and I think it deserves to be investigated.

In our law there are basically two kinds, (malum prohibitum)  a wrong just because we say it is a wrong and the other (malum in se’)  a wrong because it widely viewed as a wrong by global society.   What Trump did is at the very worst, a wrong because democrats said it was wrong.  A technical wrong, but one that does not rise to level of a high crime or even a misdemeanor.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, who has long resisted the idea of impeaching the president because she didn’t feel democrats had a good case.  The House will now have to weigh whether the president’s transgressions fall into the impeachable offenses of “treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors,” as dictated by the Constitution.  The House is divided along party lines.  Many think Trump was doing the right thing when coercing Ukraine to investigate influence peddling by Biden on behalf of his son Hunter.

If this goes to the Senate there is every reason to think it was be dismissed as fast as Bill Clinton’s impeachment.  Meanwhile, the people’s business is not being done.  There are many issues that should be a priority.  From the deficit to Social Security safeguards or border protection, etc., that should  to be considered!  Important things are gathering dust while frivolous political posturing is wasting valuable time and taxpayer money.

Democrats have been shopping for a reason to impeach Trump since before he won the election. Every time they try they fail and they’ll fail again because people are smarter than the democrats think we are.

There was no quid pro quo. Ukraine got it’s aid and they didn’t open an investigation into Hunter Biden and his Burisma involvement. The actual quid pro quo was Joe Biden threatening to cut off aid if Ukraine didn’t fire the prosecutor looking into his son in six hours, and he was fired. We the people are smart enough to connect the dots and know what’s real and what’s fake.

Trump made it clear at his rally tonight in Mississippi he’s fighting back and he’s going all out. He went after the Democrats hard for trying to impeach an innocent man who had done nothing wrong. He compared their never ending attacks to his record breaking jobs, employment and everyone’s 401k’s growth since he took office.

He has a winning 2020 ticket if he doesn’t do himself in by doing or saying something that will turn the voters against him. Right now the silent majority are with him. Question is, will the Dems ever stop? Nope, they have too much to lose to give up.

As has been explained by every fact-checker in the world, and as I have tried to explain to you many times, the Ukrainian prosecutor was not looking into Biden’s son at the time that Biden—at the behest of the Obama administration and all our Western allies—pressured to have the corrupt prosecutor fired. The notion that the entire Western world wanted him fired to protect Hunter Biden makes no sense. So the “quid pro quo” in this case could not have been a personal or political one, but was rather done in service of legitimate government interests. It went through the proper channels and was done with full transparency.

Contrast that with Trump’s quid pro quo, which was part of a “shadow foreign policy” conducted mostly by Rudy Giuliani, the president’s personal lawyer, who was also working with shady Russians who were upset that the corrupt prosecutor was fired because it was bad for their business and criminal interests. Trump, unlike Biden, did not ask for any other anti-corruption measures in the Ukraine—he only wanted Biden targeted, and he wanted him targeted publicly. Has Trump ever asked for an investigation into the “corruption” of any individual who wasn’t a political opponent or critic? No. Multiple ambassadors have now testified that they knew Trump’s demands were inappropriate and politically motivated. To claim that he was only interested in fighting corruption here is ludicrous.

In short, Biden was exercising US and global policy in fighting corruption. Trump was engaging in corruption.

And if you want to fight corruption end all foreign aid, especially to corrupt countries like Ukraine.

And it is freaking insane for a country that’s $23 trillion in debt with hundreds of trillions of unfunded liabilities to be handing out money to foreign governments.

If it were, you could refute it with your big boy words, instead of linking to a random YouTube channel.

And if you want to fight corruption end all foreign aid, especially to corrupt countries like Ukraine.

The Obama administration threatened to withhold aid if Ukraine did not fire a corrupt prosecutor. Trump threatened to withhold aid if they did not investigate the guy who took point on getting the corrupt prosecutor fired. If you actually cared about corruption, you would see this.

And it is freaking insane for a country that’s $23 trillion in debt with hundreds of trillions of unfunded liabilities to be handing out money to foreign governments.

And yet, Trump keeps raising not only the debt, but also the deficit, which was lowered under Obama. So why do you pretend to care about such things?

Once again you refuse to look at the evidence. Well, at least this time you didn’t ad hominem them.

I don’t defend Trump or the Republicans for their insane deficits or for continuing to send taxpayer money to foreign governments which is nothing but theft of American’s money.

Yes there are many things the Democrats should be doing other than this being their main focus, however just as today’s millennials mantra it seems “it’s all about me”

Possible reason is those are a hotbed of issues that need priority attention for the public’s behalf. However they are a minefield of political furtherance for the Democratic members in the House of Rep’s to publicly take a stand on..

Funny how all of a sudden the impeachment issue has been hysterically pushed to the front of the line. Might have something to do with the now criminal investigation of those who tried to entrap TheDonald’s people.
    Even the CIA is getting nervous . . . . . . .
TheDonald has released the transcript of the Ukraine call. The Demwits continue their behind closed door “investigation” while BullSchifft leaks fantasies.
I remember some Demwits calling for TheDonald’s impeachment on the SAME DAY he was inaugurated! What a crock!

      Indeed, what a crock.

      “Key points from rules:
The Executive Branch will not be permitted to participate in the open HPSCI hearing.

President Trump lawyers will not be permitted to question witnesses in the open HPSCI hearing.

Ranking member of HPSCI (Nunes) may have subpoena power subject to pre-approval by Chairman Adam Schiff. Requests must be made in writing. Chair is not mandated to approve.

Ranking member of HPSCI (Nunes) may have ability to request witnesses subject to pre-approval by Chairman Adam Schiff. Requests must be made in writing. Chair is not mandated to approve.

Schiff (Chairman) and Nunes (Ranking member) will each have 90 minutes (aggregate) to question any witness brought before the committee. All other committee members will have 5 minutes each, per witness. [Remember this is a member assembly of 3 committees]

The Chairman can allow contracted legal staff (Lawfare) to question witnesses, as part of his 90-minutes of available questioning.

The Chair is authorized, though not required, to make depositions public.

Upon completion of the hearing(s), the HPSCI chairman shall write a **report to the Judiciary (Nadler) with instructions of findings. The chair may include dissent from the minority opinion therein.

[**Note: IMHO this report has already been written. That was the purpose for the basement hearings. All of this public testimony is for public consumption to support the premise of a constitutional impeachment proceedings. It’s a farce.]

The resolution then provides a process for the HPSCI report to transfer all of the assembled tri-committee material to the House Judiciary Committee where Jerry Nadler will take over.

“The “impeachment” resolution slated for today gives the Democrats carte blanche to go after Trump, his business dealings, family and allies in almost every area of his past public and personal life. As if to rub salt into an open wound, one of the people, biologically anyway, who sits on the rules committee and crafting the guidelines for impeachment is none other than Alcee Hastings.

Next thing you’ll know they’ll be asking for his birth certificate and college transcripts…conservative Republicans would never stand for such a thing, now, would they? Certainly Trump would have never made any such demands of a previous president!

Have you heard of karma? This is what it feels like.

Alcee-*******-Hastings. For those not aware, Alcee Hastings was a federal judge from Florida who was impeached, convicted and removed from the bench on charges of bribery, one of only eight judges IIRC who have ever been removed from the bench in US history. You’d think that that would be enough to send one into the wilderness to avoid the scorn and derision of the public as well as to attempt to repent and atone.

Well, you’d be wrong as Alcee Hastings actually ran for and won a House seat and has been there since 1993.

Mark Levin is of the opinion that the House will impeach. I agree. As I have mentioned before, impeachment is all the Dem’s have. If they can’t pull this off, the Dem Party is toast, and they know it. They will not stop. Ever.

And here’s the thing. If the Dem’s pull this off, if President Trump is successfully impeached and removed from office, America is done. Over. Impeachment by any means will be the new normal. Even if future elections are held, they will be meaningless. The only votes that will count then will be from the roof tops, delivered at 3000 fps.

    Schifty Schiff strikes out again.

White House Official Testifies He Was ‘Not Concerned That Anything Illegal Was Discussed’ On Ukraine Call:

“The White House’s top official for European affairs told Congress on Thursday that he was not concerned that “anything illegal” was discussed during the July 25 phone call between President Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart that is at the center of Democrats’ impeachment inquiry.

“I want to be clear, I was not concerned that anything illegal was discussed,” the official, Timothy Morrison, said in an opening statement reviewed by the Daily Caller News Foundation.

Morrison, who served as senior director for European affairs at White House and National Security Council, was one of several officials who listened in on the phone call between Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky, the president of Ukraine.”

    • Chris says:

But Morrison did confirm that a quid pro quo could place. Whether it’s “illegal” is irrelevant; previous impeachments were based on more than just technical violations of law, and “high crimes and misdemeanors” have been interpreted to mean abuses of power.

Except for Ivy League political studies majors and other lower echelon liberals, the whole world understands this “impeachment” has nothing to do with high crimes and misdemeanors. It’s a clumsy, often humorous coup attempt by a would-be junta made up of democrats. MSM, and the deep state.
Since I’ve mostly given up trying to predict the future, I won’t try to predict the outcome, but I can predict that this country will be in deep stuff if it happens.

Was the president not “wasting time” when he threatened to withhold congressionally approved aid if Ukraine did not investigate a political rival? Is there really any case that could be made that forcing Ukraine to investigate Joe Biden was more important to national and global security than ensuring Ukraine could fight Russian aggression? I don’t believe there is such a case. If there were, why would Trump not do this publicly, through the appropriate channels—as Joe Biden had done? Why would they hide the call and mark it top secret? Why have they still not released a full, verbatim transcript? Why would three career ambassadors testify to Congress that they knew the call to be inappropriate? It clearly was. Trump did not do this in the national interest, he did it in his own interests. Why, after all this time, is that so hard to accept?

  9. Chris says:

Most Americans aren’t shrugging and saying “so what.” More Americans continue to support impeachment.

    https://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/impeachment-polls/

It really cannot be overstated how fully congressional Republicans have failed to grapple with the fact that Trump is a uniquely, deeply unpopular president. He has never had higher than 50% approval. And man…getting booed first at the World Series and then at a UFC event…he’s lost whatever claim to “real America” his pampered, fame-hungry behind ever had.
