Do we have a Shortage of Ventilators or Not?

by Jack

If CA is in short supply of ventilators, why are we sending our ventilators to a central depository for loan to other states?

Story #1.  California Gov. Gavin Newsom announced earlier the nation’s most populous state would share 500 of its ventilators, a necessary tool to keep struggling patients breathing, with the national stockpile even as it hunts for more of its own supplies.

The state has more than 4,000 ventilators in its stockpile beyond the ones already in hospitals, and Newsom’s goal is to get to 10,000, whether that’s through manufacturing or purchasing ventilators from other countries.

“Thousands more we are confident will be on their way very, very shortly,” Newsom said.

Story #2.

  • California received 170 ventilators from the federal stockpile to help battle the coronavirus outbreak in the state.
  • However, California Governor Gavin Newsom said all of the ventilators sent to Los Angeles County were “broken.”
  •  The ventilators have been sent out for repair.

CBS up to its usual fake news reporting.

CBS News panned for tearful video of nurse claiming she quit over coronavirus concerns:

It’s really interesting to me that the Federalist is the source that uncovered this, and I think it speaks to a weird double standard. CBS really messed up here. It’s good that they were called out on it, and it’s good that they corrected the story, admitted error, and provided clarifications. They clearly thought the story was “too good to fact-check” and it’s led to deserved embarrassment for them.

But now let’s look at the Federalist. Two weeks ago, they published an article advocating the dangerous idea of “coronavirus infection parties” by an unlicensed dermatologist they represented as a “physician.” Said unlicensed dermatologist says the website made several edits to his article that he did not approve. The article was taken down by Twitter, but remains on the Federalist website with no updates or corrections about the identity of the author or the unscientific content. No one from the Federalist has apologized for the article.

Now, I think it’s obvious that CBS should be held to a higher standard than the Federalist. But that comes with acknowledging that on the whole, CBS has a much better record and is a more reliable source than the Federalist. When CBS messes up, they issue corrections and apologies, and it’s still a major news story. When the Federalist messed up, it’s Tuesday.

Again, I’m not saying CBS should be let off the hook here. But it would be a mistake to take away the idea that places like the Federalist are a suitable alternative to news outlets like CBS. In this instance, the Federalist served its proper purpose as a confrontational watchdog of the mainstream media. We need that. Now if only it could hold itself to the same standard of truth and accuracy to which it holds others.

      Peggy,

A bigoted, thoughtless left-wing idiot will, of course, slam the Federalist for its article on CONTROLLED Voluntary Infection. If you read the piece in ts entirety they make a good case. But not for the usual gang of left-wing stooges whose only interest is closed-minded, pin-headed demagoguery.

There is one reason, only one rational reason, to slow the spread of the Chinese virus by shutting down the economy with social distancing and lock downs: To prevent medical, emergency, police and national security services from being completely overwhelmed by a rapid UNCONTROLLED spread. Whether this approach has actually been successful is questionable. CVI, if you carefully read the article, does not threaten a slowed, uncontrolled spread by other means IF you understand the caveats the Federalist mentions.

Read the “basic principles” and “potential benefits” sections closely, not like the tribe of progressive cretins who refuse to and who then jump to ideologically pre-manufactured conclusions.

Condemnation of The Federalist for posting this article is just more knee-jerk demagogy from the usual gang of dorks with a left-wing political agenda.

Lastly, while The Federalist is an opinion journal and, as such, must be approached with a thinking mind, when it comes to journalism in general it is certainly more credible than the godawful drivel CBS tries to pass as “objective.” I happen to enjoy The Federalist for their interesting and stimulating heterodoxy.

Pie, it’s really interesting what one can find with just a couple of clicks.

CBS questioned about video of nurse claiming she quit over lack of coronavirus masks:

“CBS News was forced to issue a clarification after promoting footage of a crying nurse who claimed she was asked by hospital managers not to wear an N95 mask when treating coronavirus patients.

The clip went viral after CBS promoted it — with Sen. Bernie Sanders even sharing it with his 9.5 million followers.

But the news organization was forced to issue a clarification after social media sleuths claimed Vera, who reportedly had a large following on a now-deactivated Instagram page, wasn’t trustworthy.

CBS issued a statement from Vera in a follow-up tweet Monday.

“We were each assigned 1 N95 per 1 covid patient’s room but was not allowed to wear it outside of the room, wear our own N95 mask around the Nurses station or Halls, which I came prepared with,” Vera said, according to CBS.

Several hours later, the broadcaster followed up on the report with another tweet about Vera’s job status.

“The hospital, Northwestern Medicine, acknowledged that Imaris Vera had quit her job, but referred CBS News to Vera as to the details of why,” the outlet tweeted.”

    Well done Pie!

Communication requires that the reader fully gets it. The Federalist did its job putting out the information. Certain reader(s) on the left failed miserably in the get it department. No wonder there’s so much fake news. Then there’s the purpose-full lie. These are inexcusable.

    • Pie Guevara says:

Please note that I am not endorsing The Federalist article, I find it interesting. I do not endorse it because there isn’t enough data to safely say that once a person recovers from the Wuhan virus that they would not experience a re-emergence of the disease (although given the pattern of nearly every other virus infecting humans on the planet this is highly unlikely).

I also find it interesting that certain folks of a certain political bent absolutely condemn it, misrepresent it and lie about it. They claim “experts” have roundly criticized the article and the once oft used practice of CVI. That is a lie. (Name ten. Hell, name one “expert.”)

These are the same folks who attacked Trump for barring travel from China and then a few weeks later condemned him for acting too late to slow the spread of the disease. These are the same folks who tout that the Trump policies which encouraged a roaring bull economy and have resulted in historic low unemployment figures is an Obama economy. The same folks who went Russia, Russia, RUSSIA! And then Ukraine, Ukraine, UKRAINE. The same folks who brought us the Kavanaugh circus trial. The same folks who are currently engaged in a giant China suck-up fest and have joined the Chinese Communist Party’s despicable world-wide propaganda and misinformation campaign like the World Health Organization has. The same folks who have used the Wuhan virus crisis to push their crass ideological political agendas and pass legislation that is supposed to direct funds to addressing the crisis to include their completely unrelated pet projects.

You just can’t please some folks. Some folks are the scum of the earth.

The Federalist article begins with this statement —

“By now, we all know America’s immediate COVID-19 action plan is to avoid rapid spread of the virus through good hygiene and isolation. The logic of this mitigation strategy is quite sound. As Dr. Anthony Fauci, head of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has repeatedly explained, this approach will buy us time and flatten the curve of the national infection rate.

“Both of these steps are needed because intensive care unit (ICU) resources are essential to managing the disease in older and sicker patients, but are inherently expensive and finite. We cannot afford to overwhelm them.”

Some folks just do not know how to read plain English and literally have a comprehension level lower than that of a trained baboon.
