CHICO The “Dancing Trout” fountain outside the City Council Chambers has been fenced off for repairs, city officials confirmed Tuesday. This leaves transients without a wading pool and no place to wash their gear. Guess they’ll have to do their laundry in the creek again.
Hundreds of out of state transients, mental patients and criminals on the run have come to Chico in the past year thanks in no small part to the tireless efforts of the Homeless Taskforce. It’s estimated that over 2000 bums now reside in and about the Chico area. This has done wonders for the downtown economy and crime, theft, stabbings and vandalism being the most visible accomplishments. The task force wants to build more housing for bums…like that’ll help!
Heard on the street that even the Jesus Center is feeling some of the pain. Seems the transients have been getting a little rough on the staff and even the volunteer staff are becoming fearful for their safety. Outside of the notorious downtown, patrons to Safeway, McDonalds and Rite-Aide on Mangrove near the park have been experiencing a surge in bum related problems too.
People travelling to Chico almost always ask, why do you have so many panhandlers? A good question for which the liberals on our City Council have no answer, so don’t ask them. Ask anyone else, but not them! Local residents travelling to other communities come back with this, and I’ve heard it said many times, “I never any bums in (insert name of city) the whole time we were there.” Ah, but these are not bums, they are all local homeless folks and if it were not for a run of bad luck they would be fully employed in Obama’s new economy, so says your local liberals who deny we have a transient problem. They guys are all local, sure…if you believe that I’ve got a big bridge to sell you.
I never did like the new park. What was wrong with the old one? They could have fixed it up a bit and saved the city millions.
But instead they constructed a concrete monument to ugliness that costs a fortune to maintain. But you can bet the army of bureaucrats and those in the private sector who suck off the gummit teat made out like bandits.
So do the homeless ever catch and eat the fish?
“What was wrong with the old one?”
Amen. Where was all this TP energy when those godless liberals set about destroying a charming public space?
That whole business never made any sense to me. It was like they HAD to do something, just for the sake of doing it … and again, they took some very bad advice.
I suppose it’s spilled milk now … but it still pains.
The old park and our liberal posters have a bunch in common, there’s a lot of missing substance to their stand.
Hollow trees and hollow minds, left alone will fall and cause damage.
The new park may not be every ones cup of tea, but structure wise it is safer than the falling branches and hollow trunks of the old one.
But as Jack points out, the bum issue is the real tragedy in Chico these days, and with the Liberal council members encouraging their numbers, we voters have the same option as the urban forester, thin out the dead wood on the liberal side of the council.
Oh, all right … the trees were shot. But why all the concrete? It still pains.
Concrete doesn’t require maintenance or water and feces and urine more easily removed?
The vision, I imagine, was based on those concerts in the park. The vision was not bad but it does clash with current incivility in the population exacerbated by economic hell.
