Here Come the Layoffs

by Jack

Investors Business Daily did a nice job showing companies laying off workers and cutting full time jobs to part time in advance of the mandatory health insurance law aka ObamaCare aka The Affordable Healthcare Act aka The Un-Affordable Healthcare Act.

The job layoffs, cut hours and jacked up insurance cost for families is going to be the kick in the butt dummies that supported this debacle need to wise up. As long in the planning as it has been there is still a stunning lack of preparation. Despite assurances from the White House to contrary, the higher than expected administrative costs, high healthcare premiums, and job losses make this look adventure look as though it could be our most colossal government boondoggle of all time.

Conservatively speaking, I expect ObamaCare to be many times more costly than the current record holder for waste, Homeland Security. Oddly enough, neither ObamaCare or Homeland came by way of a mandate from the voters. Polling on ObamaCare has always had low polling and Homeland Security, well, there was virtually no polling and no voting, it was merely imposed on us because we were told we absolutely needed it to effectively fight terrorism. As it’s turned out, Homeland has done nothing but sucked up hundreds of billions of our tax dollars. Should we expect any better from ObamaCare? I think not.

IBD reported, “Blame Game: Everybody who dislikes ObamaCare is being duped by GOP propaganda, says President Obama. That must include all those unions calling it a disaster, and all those who’ve lost jobs and pay because of the law.

Telemundo, the only news outlet that appears willing to ask Obama a tough question, pressed him this week about polls showing most Americans oppose ObamaCare. “Is everybody wrong?” the host asked.

“Yes, they are,” Obama responded. The problem, he said, isn’t his law. It’s the Republicans who’ve spent billions of dollars misinforming people. Of course Obama didn’t mention the Kings ransom he’s spent promoting Obamacare.

This week, the prestigious Cleveland Clinic announced plans to lay off as many as 3,000 workers “to prepare for health care reform.” And hundreds of franchise owners came to Washington to explain how ObamaCare’s employer mandate will force many of them to cut worker hours to avoid its massive costs.

Last week, Connecticut’s Lawrence and Memorial Hospital cut dozens of jobs, citing “massive structural change” brought on by ObamaCare. More than a dozen other hospitals have recently announced job cuts.

That same week, the AFL-CIO voted overwhelmingly for a resolution calling ObamaCare “highly disruptive,” despite concerted efforts on the part of the White House to convince labor leaders not to do so.

Other unions have been far less polite.

Then there are the jobs killed by ObamaCare’s excise tax on medical devices. Last fall, device maker Stryker Corp. laid off 1,170 workers because of that tax — which both Democrats and the GOP are now trying to repeal.

IBD has been cataloguing businesses, public institutions and local governments that have cut jobs or worker hours specifically citing ObamaCare. That list is now more than 250.

Other companies are cutting benefits for part-time workers, spouses, early retirees or their entire workforce, because of ObamaCare. Every one of those workers has a good reason to want the law killed.

On top of this, the public may be noticing the growing pile of ObamaCare’s broken promises. Among them:

Family premiums haven’t gone down by $2,500 annually, as Obama repeatedly said they would. They’ve gone up $2,976.

Closer to home, ObamaCare costs are costing jobs at John Muir(1) hospital in Concord.   I just heard they are about to layoff several hundred CNA’s much to the chagrin of their RN’s who must take up the slack. Similarly Feather River Hospital is antipating staff lay offs for the same reason. I can’t speak about Enloe, but I would be surprised if they are not following the other area hospitals and businesses being forced to cut hours and layoff employees.

Education is one area that is seeing significant cuts. I find that very interesting given Obama’s past comments about supporting education.

From US News and World Reports:  By 2019 it expected hospitals, skilled nursing facilities and home health agencies would undergo a 15 percent reduction.

For a sector that employs more than 5.5 million people, according to the American Hospital Association, the numbers are likely to get worse. The pattern of layoffs and buyouts has already begun. SouthCoast Hospital Group in Florida cited federal health reform when it laid off 100 employees in mid-September. John Muir Health in California is offering staff voluntary buyouts. NorthShore University HealthSystem in Illinois will lay off 1 percent of its workforce, and Covenant Health in Texas laid off 49 employees.

(1)  In the second cost-cutting announcement in a week, John Muir Health — which runs hospitals in Walnut Creek and Concord — announced Thursday it is offering voluntary severance packages to its employees, hoping to save money by trimming about 200 full-time positions in anticipation of falling revenues once Obamacare takes effect.

“We’re being paid less, and we either stick our head in the sand or make changes for the future so patients can continue to access us for their care,” said John Muir Health spokesman Ben Drew.

With the Affordable Care Act coverage set to start next year, Drew said the nonprofit health care system expects a shift from government payments for each service to a set amount of overall care for a patient, which will lower revenues.

Obamacare Navigators – Beware the Scam Artist

Posted by Tina

Our government discovered there was little interest in the citizenry to enroll in the Obamacare exchange options for healthcare insurance so they decided to spend even more taxpayer money to create a system of navigators to hock the plans, enroll the “folks”…and make sure they are also registered to vote as democrats. The navigators will not be vetted for the job but will be collecting sensitive personal data…social security numbers, birthdates and the like…what a stupid, stupid move!

Be aware America, scams are already being perpetrated on citizens according to a House Oversight and Government Reform Committee:

…there are already numerous reports of scam artists posing as Navigators and Assisters to take advantage of people’s confusion about ObamaCare. According to recent news reports, scam artists are calling individuals and asking for information to sign them up for their “ObamaCare card,” are asking seniors for their personal information to verify their Medicare and Social Security status and are going door-to-door threatening people with prison time if they do not sign up on the spot. The Administration is keenly aware of these reports and concerns, but has thus far failed to take appropriate measures.

Instead of signing up for the destruction of the United States of America…instead od settling for a permanent state of high unemployment…instead of joining the idiots that think 2% growth is the best America can do and gasoline at $8.00 a gallon is just fine…instead of joining with the radicals of the Democrat Party that believe they should be a permanent dictating elite in Washington DC…instead of committing to the destruction join with the 54% of Americans who would prefer to scrap Obamacare and look to reforms for a better solution…AND…begin to reclaim our nation as the land of the free and working!

Something Wrong With Arrest

by Jack

The story in the ER says, CHICO — A woman (20-year-old Megan Carey) was pepper sprayed by a Chico police officer who was attempting to arrest her on suspicion of public intoxication Friday morning. She was treated by medical personnel on scene and then taken to Butte County Jail on suspicion of public intoxication and resisting an officer.

Here’s the weird part, for about the last half century it has been the view of the courts that you can be arrested for 647f PC, public intoxication, or you can be arrested for 148 PC, resisting arrest, but you can’t be arrested for both. The reason is this, being in violation of 647f requires that you are unable to care for your own safety or the safety of others, you’re basically wasted and the brain is on hold. Resisting (148) requires a deliberate and conscious action. You would not arrest an accident victim with head trauma that is combative for resisting and the same theory applies to drunks, so says the court. It’s has happened that an officer was so disturbed by an aggressive drunk’s actions that they tacked on the resisting (148) as a throw away charge, but I can’t recall a case where the local courts convicted anyone for both charges, it’s one or the other.

Has something changed?

Polls Show Majority Doesn’t Like Obamacare

Obamacare Arrives 3 Years Later, Little Understood and Not Well-Liked
By Damla Ergun
Sep 20, 2013 12:01am

More than three years after Obamacare was signed into law and fewer than two weeks before its health insurance exchanges are to launch, many Americans don’t know a lot about the pending changes except this: They don’t much like them.

Sixty-two percent in a new ABC News-Washington Post poll say they lack the information needed to understand the changes that will take effect as the Affordable Care Act is implemented. Barely one in 10, moreover, thinks the federal government, their state government or the health insurance industry is fully prepared to implement the law.

See PDF with full results and charts here.

On the law itself, moreover, 52 percent are opposed, vs. 42 percent in support; in 16 ABC-Post polls since August 2009, it has never received majority support.

Fifty-five percent, further, disapprove of the way Barack Obama is handling implementation of the law, with “strong” disapprovers outnumbering strong approvers by a 23-point margin. And Obama and the Republicans in Congress essentially are tied in trust to handle its implementation, 41-38 percent, respectively, with most of the rest saying they trust neither.

Trust in “neither” is its highest in 10 ABC-Post polls since June 2009 asking about health care overhaul or its implementation. Trust in Obama is at a new low, while trust in the Republicans matches its lowest in more than three years.

Strong opposition to the law outstrips strong support by 13 percentage points, 39 vs. 26 percent, in this poll, produced for ABC News by Langer Research Associates. Critics are so fired up that among those who oppose the law, 52 percent say they’d support Congress’ shutting down the federal government’s major activities in order to block it, as some House Republicans have suggested. (The net support for this idea, among all Americans, is 27 percent.) The House votes today on another proposal, to strip funding for the law’s implementation.

New York Judge Tamed “Stop and Frisk” – Shootings Up 13%

Posted by Tina

The Daily Mail reports that after a judge restrained local police by ruling their “stop and frisk” tactic for preventing crime was unconstitutional:

The recent ruling to reform the New York Police Department’s controversial ‘stop-and-frisk’ tactic has already led to a sharp rise in shootings, new figures reveal.

In the month after the policy was ruled unconstitutional shootings spiked nearly 13 per cent while gun seizures fell almost a fifth, the figures show.

In the 28 days up to September 8 there were 140 shootings across the city, compared with 124 over the same period last year, according to NYPD statistics.

The judge, a female, is using the same tired old whine that the tactic targets minorities unfairly. She claims she only wanted to create more bureaucracy to monitor the cops:

She said she did not order an end to the stop-and-frisk program but instead insisted that it be carried out legally.

And she defended her remedies, which include the appointment of a monitor to ensure the program’s legality and of a facilitator to conduct meetings with interested parties in neighborhoods where frequent stops occur.

She had also ordered some officers to wear cameras.

She said the vast majority of the overhaul won’t be implemented until the monitor and the facilitator meet with the community, the police department and other stakeholders to create sensible solutions.

‘In short, the only activity at this stage is discussion between the monitor, the facilitator and the parties to develop the remedies,’ she said. ‘No other specific relief is imminent, much less ordered.’

Hey lady, you are a judge not the city’s official busy body. The cities policing body has a department to investigate officers who overstep their authority. The man on the street who believes he’s being targeted can make a complaint to the mayors office, the district attorney’s office, his local police and consult legal aid…but most won’t because they are up to no good! If a citizen doesn’t want to be hassled then he needs to comport himself accordingly…it is a citizens responsibility to his fellow citizens. The cops on the beat know better than anyone who needs to be watched and questioned and who doesn’t in order to make the streets safer for civilized, law abiding citizens…let them do their jobs.

House Votes: Funds Government Drops Obamacare Funding

by Tina Grazier

House Republicans Deserve Our Applause and Support – Let Them Know

The Republicans in the House have passed legislation, by a vote of 230-189, to fund the government and de-fund Obamacare. Speaker Boehner made it clear that Harry Reid and the Senate now have an obligation to debate this bill. Harry Reid has so far behaved like a spoiled child on the playground and refused to allow the Senators to consider most of the work the House has done over the past year.

The liberal media, Harry Reid, President Obama, and Nancy Pelosi like to point find Republicans won’t play….we know it is Democrats that refuse to “act in bipartisan fashion” or “cooperate to get things done for the American people”. The radical Democrats in control of the party don’t much like our system of checks and balances…the acclaimed system established by America’s founders. They prefer to dictate and will likely work to deny the majority voices represented in the House of Representatives. If the Senate refuses to do its job the people will have no choice but to send Harry Reid a very loud message in the next election by dismissing certain Senators from service.

Harry Reid is a complete failure as Senate Majority Leader and he deserves to lose his job. He has not passed a budget for the past several years in violation of law. He acts mostly as an obstructionist for bills sent to his office from the people’s house…the House of representatives.

It is time to call, fax, email and tweet the Senate to let them know we will not stand for more game playing. They may be doing well in DC and on Wall Street but Americans in the heartland, Americans on main streets across the nation are suffering because of President Obama’s destructive, job killing ideas and policies including Obamacare.

A majority of the people favor scrapping or de-funding Obamacare. Businesses are signaling its unworkability by changing their employee work hours and dropping healthcare coverage. Unions have said that this legislation will harm its members and fundamentally transform the ability to bargain. Healthcare insurance providers are opting out of the Obamacare exchanges.

The chickens have come home to roost…harry Reid it is time to fund the government and rid the American people of the job killing monstrosity known as Obamacare!

Charles Krauthammer on Aaron Alexis and Mental Health Law

Posted by Tina

Given the instantaneous Diane Feinstein political reaction to the horrible shooting at the Navy Yard in DC a few days ago it was refreshing to read Charles Krauthammer, a voice of experience and authority, who has written of the actual underlying problem and how to address it. Here’s an excerpt; I hope you will read the entire piece:

As was the case in the Tucson shooting — instantly politicized into a gun-control and (fabricated) tea-party-climate-of-violence issue — the origin of this crime lies not in any politically expedient externality but in the nature of the shooter. …

…Had this happened 35 years ago in Boston, Alexis would have been brought to me as the psychiatrist on duty at the emergency room of the Massachusetts General Hospital. Were he as agitated and distressed as in the police report, I probably would have administered an immediate dose of Haldol, the most powerful fast-acting antipsychotic of the time.

This would generally have relieved the hallucinations and delusions, a blessing not only in itself, but also for the lucidity brought on that would have allowed him to give us important diagnostic details — psychiatric history, family history, social history, medical history, etc. If I had thought he could be sufficiently cared for by family or friends to receive regular oral medication, therapy and follow-up, I would have discharged him. Otherwise, I’d have admitted him. And if he refused, I’d have ordered a 14-day involuntary commitment.

The Congress Critters would be wise to listen to the good doctor and then work together to do something positive about mental health laws…if not the Congress then state legislatures need to move!

Dr. Krauthammer concludes: “More than half of those you see sleeping on grates have suffered mental illness. It’s a national scandal. It’s time we recalibrated the pendulum that today allows the mentally ill to die with their rights on — and, rarely but unforgivably, take a dozen innocents with them.”

Amen to that, brother.

America Enters WWI

 by Jack

In this day of the gun-grabbers in Washington and in our home state of California, I want to remind people that the gun not only won the West, but it was our American sharpshooters that often turned the tide of battle in war.

alvinyork1Back in WWI the great distances our soldiers were picking off the Germans made them think we must be able to sneak up on them with special camouflage or we had some break through technology with our weapons. We were using a 30.06 Springfield rifle in WWI and it was good, but it was more the man behind that rifle that made history. The Germans had never seen such accuracy and such long distances. But, that was nothing compared to what an American soldier named Alvin York did. He showed them exactly what an old country boy could do with a rifle.

On one side there was York and the other side, the German soldiers with 32 machine guns along with rifles and pistols.

When the Germans attacked they cut down almost all of York’s unit including the commanding officer, which put him in charge. The remaining soldiers were busy guarding the prisoners they had taken behind enemy lines. This left York to deal with the Germans. When the fight started York had no time to run for cover, so he just started picking off the German soldiers as they popped up to take a shot at him. Each time they showed themselves, York would take them out. One shot one kill.

Imagine there’s York and he’s running out of bullets. He’s exposed with about 100 German solders above him firing down at him and now a group of Germans breaks free and runs at him with their bayonets from a range of about 25 yards. So does he run for cover? Nope, instead he pulls out his pistol, calmly puts on his sunglasses and kills all of the German soldiers descending on him. Not only this, but he systematically picks off the Germans in the back first, so those in the front will keep running towards him thinking they have support.

I might add, while York is down there picking off Germans he’s repeatedly calling out to the Germans to surrender; he didn’t want to kill any more than he had to…and eventually the German Commander, sick of seeing his men killed, ordered them to surrender. York captured 132 Germans that day.

Now flash forward. If it was up to the liberal gun-grabbers there will be no more Sgt. York’s, but if a drug dealer, robber or a killer wants to buy a gun, there will always be a black market.

Breaking News – Major Networks Get Its Wrong

by Jack

I cringed as I heard the news about a shooting rampage at a Navy base in D.C. As the body count started to come in I felt sick. What a senseless tragedy! I was watching TV news at the time and they reported this may be the work of more than one gunman and they had unconfirmed reports coming in that police have one in custody and are searching for a second suspect, possibly in camo’s and armed with a military style assault weapon. This raised the possibility of another terrorist attack.

An hour later, I’m flipping through the dial, er, clicker, and now it’s being reported on all the major networks that just like at Sandy Hook and Aurora, the gunman was once again armed with the deadly AR-15 with a high capacity magazine! As the day progressed various gun experts appeared on camera to testify that the AR-15 is not a hunting rifle and has no legitimate purpose in civilian hands. It’s a powerful military assault weapon designed to kill people. The experts eagerly explained to us too stupid to understand our Constitutional rights that this is not what the 2nd Amendment intended. As one ex-police chief said, the 2nd amendment was basically crafted for hunting rifles. (That came as news to me – the 2nd Amendment is for hunters eh?) Even Congress got into the act as democrat lawmakers took to the pulpit to talk about the deperate need for more gun laws and the evils of this particular rifle which should be banned. The one-sided talk was really lined up against the venerable AR-15 that has been with us for over 50 years. They rattle off so much information it was almost as if they were scripted in advance, just waiting for another tragedy like this to make their political points.

buyashotgun

One problem… An AR-15 was not used. What was used was Joe Biden’s gun of choice, the shotgun. However, you can’t un-ring the bell and the damage was done to the millions of law abiding AR15 owners who like this weapon for home defense, target practice and small game hunting. I said small game because it’s a .223 caliber, that would be a bullet about the size of a .22 bullet…if you still don’t get it, it’s really, really small.

If there is something to be learned from this tragedy, it’s once again not about the gun, but about the person. Mentally ill people should not be allowed access to firearms (or weapons of any sort). All the warning signs were there in the DC shooting, but nobody took the initiative to do one $%#@ thing about it!

The shooter had a secret clearance and when the police reports started coming in to his employer, warning of his mental instability they did nothing and the Navy did nothing! Can you believe they issued a Secret Clearance to the shooter after he had several gun violations? How does this happen on a tightly controlled military installation?

You can bet there will be lawsuits filed at least against the government sub-contractor and hopefully others who may have been negligent. This was a very preventable tragedy if only the police and the Navy had used the law in time or if the sub-contractor had refused the shooter employment because of the prior gun charges and red flags about anger issues that came up in his background.
