1/2 Marathon Taper Week

Well, this is my "taper week" before the Bidwell Classic 1/2 Marathon next weekend. I did a 5.85 mile "Pace Run" yesterday in Bidwell Park, to try to get my race pace implanted in my mind. I averaged 8 minutes, 25 seconds per mile, and my goal is 8 minutes, 30 seconds, so everything there went well.

The run felt good, I'm headed into the race pretty well rested, with no injuries to speak of. I'll do a short bike ride today (probably 25 miles or so) and then follow my 1/2 Ironman Taper Plan - to make sure it "works for me" before I try it for real in July.

Feb 24 - 80 minute Bike
Feb 25 - Run 30 minutes, 3x10 at race pace

Good luck Dennis! By the way, thanks to you and your crew for the excellent work you did during the snow event this week. Not only that, but your radio transmissions made it possible to map the obstacles (downed trees, etc) so we knew where NOT to go. Thanks!

Hey Thomas,

You found me over at my "other life". Thanks for the comments, we've been improving our capabilities for almost 8 years, with training, new equipment and additional resources - always gearing up for the "Big One" like we had in 1990. Someday we will be tested again like that, and I'd like to think we will do a much better job this time around.

Thanks for stopping by,

Dennis

Good job on the pacing run, Dennis, and good luck with the 1:51:21 goal for next Saturday.

Greg,

Thanks, hopefully the weather will cooperate with us and give us a "non-pouring down rain" morning.
I know it's a challenge to run in the rain, it must be a real bummer to try to run a race in the rain.

I just looked at Yahoo weather and it suggests that Saturday will be sunny! I lived in Seattle 4.5 years and never ran a race there in an outright downpour. However less than a year later on a visit I ran a half-marathon the Saturday after Thanksgiving and it rained relentlessly the whole time. I'm sure the weather for the Bidwell Classic will be nice.
