Dead Frickin Last
Did a time trial this weekend - with a group of "Roadies". Me, being a Big and Famous (Ya, right) triathlete, figured I'd smoke at least some of these guys up the hill - 6 miles up about a 5-10% grade, up to the little Hamlet of Cohasset. I've been a little light on the bike mileage this winter, but I figured training and running a 1/2 marathon would keep me in shape, right???
WRONG!!!! I finished DFL amonst the male riders, and second to DFL overall. Only redeeming factor was my buddy that I was riding with was almost as slow as I was!!!
I guess my first clue that these guys were serious should have been that most of them drove their cars with their bike in the back to the starting line - WHAT IS UP WITH THAT!!! I figured I'd get a 25 mile "warm up" by riding my bike there. Then the other riders started started ditching anything that weighted anything, like tool bags, clothes, etc... I figured, the heck with that - I'm running this the way I race Tri's.
Anyway, hats off to the Chico Corso Bike Club - they put on an awesome time trial, and they all collectively smoked me up that stinkin hill!!! Rumor has it they will have a "rematch" in September - I'll be coming off my training for Vineman, and we'll have to see if I can at least catch a few of them.....
All the results are here
Anyone care to share your DFL stories so I can stop feeling so sorry for myself???

Thanks for not using names to incriminate the weak and the slow! Now that a "personal best" has been put on the board it can be easily blown away in September after a lot more miles have been logged. Wonder how those guys would fare going up North Rim on the fat tires...or on second thought, maybe I wouldn't want to know! Had a great time and we'll be higher in the bracket come September - providing everybody else doesn't step up too...

Paul,
Hey, it was fun - and for some reason I couldn't wait to tell everyone at work that I came in last place. You know, for $15 we could join, and then we too could partake in the secret Mt. Mike's Pizza that is rumored to make them such fast bike riders - and maybe down a beer or too at the same time....
This may very well have "pushed me over the edge" to start riding my bike to work - at least one day a week. That would give me an extra 50 miles a week, with a pretty good hillclimb. Plus, the whole $3 fuel thing, it would feel real good to not have to fill the tank quite so often...

Hi Dennis! Hey, great job out there - we'll be looking for you at the September time trial. In the meantime, get ready for the Honey Run Time Trial coming up in May - not to mention.....Yes, as Paul said.....the North Rim Time Trial coming soon! Great to see you out there - loved the bike. Not sure what the deal was with all the people who drove up there.....that's some sort of new school thing I've never understood.

Hey Rodney,
Thanks - it was a lot of fun!!! Oh great, now you guys want me to dust off my mountain bike, which hasn't been out of the garage for a year, and be embarassed again?? Let me think about that.....
OK, I'm IN!!!!
