Paradise Lake Race Report
My hat is off to Jim, Karl, Michelle, and the gang at Beyond fitness - they pulled off an awesome race this year. Still a pretty small field of contestants, but it gets bigger (and better) each year.
My race went pretty well - my run was good, with a pace of 8'38" per mile (across three miles, with some pretty serious hills), a blistering slow bike pace of 11.54 miles per hour (lots of time spend in low gear, crawling up Doone grade), and then my "infamous" kayak time of 22'42". I say infamous kayak time, as my kayak experiance was a disaster.
I was ninth place overall at the end of the run, I slipped about 4 positions on the bike to 13th overall, then the kayak..... I have a "new to me" kayak, that I traded for a kids swing set (that's a whole nother story). Anyway, this kayak is a "white water" type, which means it is a flat bottom - made for skimming sideways through white water rapids. Unfortunately, this type, in the hands of a kayak novice such as my self, also has a tendency to skim sideways across the flat water of Paradise Lake. The kayak course was supposed to be 1.5 miles, I suspect that I probably went, say, 20 or 30 miles, if you add up all the twists, turns, and full 360 degree turns that I added into the course. Anyway, I lost another 4 or 5 postions during my 22 minute kayak, which put me somewhere around 18th position overall.
The results are up here
I ended up placing 9th out of 27 in the run, 16th out of 27 with my bike time, and 22d out of 27 (in other words, almost the slowest one out there) in the kayak, with an overall ranking of 18 out of 27.
Anyhow, it was a great race, and since the Paradise Police and Fire DID NOT EVEN SHOW UP, I guess our team of Town Hall desk jockeys once again beat them in our inter-town challenge.

Second Annual Paradise Adventure Race
I just heard from my friends at Trailhead Adventures that they (along with Beyond Fitness) will be holding the second annual Run, Bike and Kayak Adventure Race in Paradise, on October 21, 2007. The event will be held at the beautiful Paradise Lake, and will be a great race venue - no traffic, beautiful scenery, and a BBQ lunch afterwards. See the detailed map and race flyer below:
Once again, our crew of "Desk Jockeys" from Town Hall/Public Works are issuing a challenge to the Public Safety folks - you know, those "young, strong, physically fit police and fire personnel". We believe that our ragtag group of desk jockeys can ONCE AGAIN beat them, both in terms of overall placement, number of teams, and individual efforts.
We have issued this challenge in the past - and most years the team of Town Hall desk jockeys have "cleaned up" the competition.
Must resist.....any comments about Barko loungers or doughnuts..............................

Stay tuned for more details as we start to sort out our teams.....
Also, if you are not up for the athletic side of thingsthis year - Jim and his crew (as well as the participants) would really appreciate it if you could help with coordinating the course activities - let me know if you would like to "volunteer". You'll get a really cool "T" shirt, lunch, and have a great time.
Here are some photo's from last years "Adventure".
