Marathon No. 2!!
Well, here it goes... I've been trying to psyche myself up for the last month or so... To get myself mentally ready to take on my second marathon. I was sitting on the fence, going back and forth on the decision - when I pulled up the Napa Valley Marathon website. Holy smokes, talk about cool schwagg - this year they are giving out a really nice duffle bag (in addtion to the long sleeve shirt, and all the other stuff).

I'm pretty sure I'll be the first on my block to have one of these (and possibly the only one at Beyond Fitness!!! So, here it goes...
So far this summer I've done two half marathons, and most recently the hot half, which was a torturous dirt and rock hill climb half marathon in upper Bidwell Park. I've extended out some of my long runs, so I have a pretty good running base going into this. I've picked a plan up from coolrunning.com and I will be modifying it just a bit, to add track workouts and hill workouts into my weekly routine. This is a 20 week plan, however I started a little late. Luckily, with the running I have been doing, I actually exceeded the mileage that was listed for the first couple of weeks that I "missed".

I just finished week 5 of the training plan, and I capped off my week with a 10.8 mile run, from Jamba Juice in Chico (next to Round Table, on Forest Ave) up along the bike path to humboldt, the east, across Bruce Road, and up Humboldt to the top where it meets Highway 32. What an awesome run!!!! I left about 4:30 PM or so, knowing it would get dark on me (I took my running light). The sun was setting on my way up the hill, and once I turned around and came back, the lights of Chico were just starting to show up. By the time I was halfway down, the moon was out, and the lights were just awesome!! Definitely have to do this run again, as the hill workout is great, and the scenery makes you forget that you are working your butt off.
Speaking of the hill workout - that run is 10.8 miles, plus or minus, and almost 800 vertical feet of climbing. My legs held up pretty well, but I was glad to finally be back - total time was 1 hour, 50 minutes for the loop. A map of the run is here.
Best thing about finishing is that I ended up at Jamba Juice - what better way to cap off a long run than a smoothie and a sourdough pretzel!!!
