Shelley's shrimp dip

Every once in a while I'll come across something exquisite that is fun to share with readers.

This one came in the form of Shelley's shrimp dip.

After only a slight bit of prodding, she shared the secret recipe with me.

E-mail from Shelley:

(She credits Paul Prudhomme)

Sauté a chopped small bell pepperin butter and garlic and about 2 tbsp. dried basil.

Add as many rinsed shrimp as you can afford (a mixture of baby shrimp and the larger ones for
effect works well) untillthe shrimp turn pink.

Glop a mixture of half mayo and half sour cream onto cooled shrimp and pepper.

Add as much ground cayenne pepper it takes to turn the dip a light pink or as hot as
you can stand it.

Chill for at least an hour and prepare to have a lot of new best friends.

I used to garden a lot, but now I am old and have problems that prevent me, but I wanted you to know how much your column means to me, it is so wonderful to read the point of view of a young woman discovering the joys (and problems) of gardening for the first time. I was a newspaper reporter for the first 20 years of my working life, and I want to tell you what a terrific writer you are, as well. Sounds like you are rooted in Chico, but I think you should send a few of your columns around for possible syndication, and consider putting some of the best ones together for a book. Gardening is hot right now, and I think you could be the modern day Erma Bombeck!
Have a great day, and keep writing!

REPLY: Thanks for the praise. It's always appreciated.

I wouldn't even mind if you kept it coming :)
