Mistrial Declared

Mistrial declared in US war objector court-martial

The judge overseeing the court martial of an Army lieutenant who refused to deploy to Iraq declared a mistrial today, saying the soldier did not fully understand a document he signed admitting to elements of the charges.

First Lt. Ehren Watada was fighting charges of conduct unbecoming an officer and missing movement for refusing to leave last June with his unit, the 3rd Brigade, 2nd Infantry Division.

Tidbits from This Week (1/20/2007)

Thought we'd start with some light fluff. No not the latest sales at Bed,Bath & Beyond. Just some nice, easy news to lighten the blow from the hammer that follows.

Since I am a musician that not only loves to play guitar, I've always been respectful of the guitar as art as well as a musical instrument. I've purchased two in the past year and a half (guiltiest of pleasures for me) on the basis of future value as well as their sound. I love to see the beauty of the wood grain and artistic effort that went into it. Both are made by Gretsch.

On that note (pun intended), I was glad and happy to find another celebrity that enjoys his free time making music on guitar. The star of the television show "24" Kiefer Sutherland is an avid player and collector. Cool!

Enough is Enough!

It has taken me a couple of days to digest President Bush's latest effort to sell his truly failed Iraq policy change to the citizens of the United States. The reason for the time needed to digest his speech is due to my quizzical assumption that our President is not accepting the reality of loss in the region and is more worried about his legacy that the safety of our soldiers.

The Case FOR Mark McGwire

Cal Ripken, Jr., Tony Gwynn and Mark McGwire are all candidates to be elected into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007. Both Ripken and Gwynn are said to be shoo-in. But there's a lot of controversy surrounding the election of Mark McGwire.
