You’re Right, Mr. President! Now What?

Dear President Bush;
It’s hard to disagree with what I am hearing from you and the right-wingers. We are in a war against Islamofascism.
This illegal war may not have started out that way, but I agree that we are there now.
At this point, it doesn’t really matter that you lied as to the real reasons for this war. It doesn’t matter that this war is illegal, or that it was poorly planned from the start. It doesn’t matter that the Iraqis had nothing to do with 9/11. Even the question of whether we should be there is moot now. What’s done is done and cannot be changed. We are there and we cannot leave until the fight is over. For surely we will lose and our country will suffer mightily.
So Mr. President, how are we going to fight it?
Like we have been?
That’s not working.
The Vietnam-style tactics chosen by your controllers are the reason Al Qaeda now has a presence in Iraq.
If this is war, it must be fought as a war, not as a police action.
Our enemies are serious. You need to be serious too.
I read recently that local Pakistani tribesmen are making the hunt for the #1 Islamofascist, Osama bin Laden, extremely difficult. Mr. President, you need to explain to these people the concept of “collateral damage.” If they still choose to aid and abet our enemy; if they won’t let us get close to bin Laden, then you should demonstrate the concept of getting “close enough.”
You need to be as crazy and as determined as they are.
Correction: You need to be crazier and more determined.
Mr. President, had you paid closer attention to your studies, you might have learned about General William Tecumseh Sherman. He brought the concept of “total war” to the US. He knew how to break an enemy’s resistance.
I heard a great idea on hate radio a while back. Surround an area where the bad guys are hiding, drop leaflets advising that they have 72 hours to get the women and children out, and to surrender. When the time has passed, destroy every living thing inside the perimeter. When you get to the next area, if you have to, do the exact same thing. It won’t be long before you won’t have to do it. If I am wrong, and you have to keep doing it, well, that’s the way wars are. Deal with it.
Is it Hell?
General Sherman said it best: “It is all that, and should be, lest we become too fond of it.”
Our enemies want to send us to Hell.
The only way we will stop them is to wage Hell against them.
