Jack has an integrity and honesty about him which is needed so desperately.
In a time when so many see politics as a profession of self aggrandizement, I wonder if Jack will see the absolute necessity of someone of his moral character running.
Running for political office should not be predominately a personal choice. It should be sought when the evidence is made so clear that your positions, moral character, and ability to explain them are superior to that of your peers. I am reminded of Washington who did not seek political office, but had it thrusted upon him by necessity. As I see the second congressional district of CA, and the country as a whole, moving in a direction contrary to our finest republican principles, I wonder who will step forward. Not out of desire to be a politician, but out of a sense of duty to ones nation.
It is difficult for men like Jack to see in himself the necessity of the moment. Jack has lived his life as a man of action, one who is able to confront his enemy on a field and let skill and determination decide the victor. The world of politics does not readily appeal to such a man,; but it is exactly such an individual who is needed most in our current situation.
In a time where we are so inclined to make light of the momentous, we sometimes forget that history is recording our actions, and will not speak well of those who possessed the ability, but lacked the moral clarity to do what is needed.
Jack is above all modest and of a humble nature. I sincerely hope such traits will not be utilized in such a manner as to prevent an honest man from pursuing public office.
I have no need of another politician to pursue self interest; but I can scarce imagine what I would not give for one honest man to act as our representative.
It is for these reasons that I implore Jack Lee to run for public office. Not because he seeks it, rather it is because he does not. Such a position would be only a burden for Jack, and as a friend I would not ask him to take up such a task, if I did not honestly feel that his wisdom was needed.
It is not for your own benefit that you should seek such responsibility Jack, so please do not let such a thought prevent you. I ask you to run for selfish reasons, understanding that it is you who will bear the hardships; but cognoscente of the fact that you are capable of overcoming them.
