Freedom 09/10/01 to 9/11

Lady Liberty 9-10.jpgPlease take a moment to reflect on those who worked in these buildings. They were people from all over the world. On September 10, 2001 they had their whole lives ahead of them. But only a few hours later an unthinkable event would mark the end of life for many of them …and for those who were in the planes that crashed into the buildings…and for the courageous men and women who came to help. The day would mark the loss of family, friends and collegues. This terrible stunning loss would be echoed throughout the day as 911 unfolded before our eyes and even more people perished on the ground and in planes…one that crashed into an empty field, downed there because of a few brave souls who sacrifieced for the good of the country…and another at the Pentgon. As you reflect on America the day before, and on the day after, the day we call 911, remember too the family members whose lives now have an empty space once filled by a their loved ones.

Life goes on as we all know, but without such reflection we can become cold, apathetic and self-absorbed. Freedom before 911 was different…it had a carefree feel and we took it for granted. But freedom is not free. It must be both cherished and preserved. As you reflect on those events of six years ago you might think about thanking someone currently in the military or a veteran…thank a police officer or a fire fighter…and while you’re at it, thank your president and the thousands of men and women who make it their business to guard your freedom every day. God bless them all, and…

God Bless America
