Obama has surrendered 10 percentage points among independent voters shifting to Hillary’s camp. This is a direct result of one man’s untimely and ill considered divisive, biggoted comments coming from the infamous Rev. Wright.
John McCain has been the ultimate benefactor here, because his popularity is growing faster than either Hillary’s or Obama’s.
Obama’s failure to address the specifics of Rev. Wright’s militant diatribe has given pause to many of his present and possibly future supporters who actually know little about their candidate. These people are now questioning his background thanks mostly to the hate speech from Rev. Wright.
When it comes to establishing his credentials for being the head of state, Obama is extremely vulnerable. He has almost no credible legislative achievement to his name and he is a junior Senator. Obama has no significant accomplishments in the private sector and he has no demonstrable ability to show leadership in Congress.
Much of his recent political success is coming only from one area, an emotional appeal as an articulate, educated and charismatic young black legislator. This may be good enough for some, but most voters want to see more substance before trusting him to the most powerful position in the world.
Obama’s close relationship to a racist like the Rev. Wright is just the opening the Clinton camp needed to question his judgement in connection with his limited experience and they are exploiting this area for all it’s worth. This is something the Republican’s can’t do for fear of looking like they are picking on a black candidate and risk losing more than they would gain, even though they have a legitimate issue here.
