McCains Foreign Policy

Posted by Tina

Some of what McCain said today regarding his foreign policy was unfortunate, in my opinion, but one or two of the bigger things I did like:

We have incurred a moral responsibility in Iraq. It would be an unconscionable act of betrayal, a stain on our character as a great nation, if we were to walk away from the Iraqi people and consign them to the horrendous violence, ethnic cleansing and possibly genocide that would follow a reckless, irresponsible and premature withdrawal. (Those who want to leave too soon)as both Democratic candidates do, are arguing for a course that would eventually draw us into a wider and more difficult war that would entail far greater dangers and sacrifices than we have suffered to date. ** We have to strengthen our global alliances as the core of a new global compact a League of Democracies that can harness the vast influence of the more than one hundred democratic nations around the world to advance our values and defend our shared interests. JOHN McCAIN

Read the full editorial, McCains World, over at Investors Business Daily. I also found the following IBD opinion about a League of Democracies interesting:

We thought this was a great idea back in 2004, when columnist Jonah Goldberg first proposed it, and we think it’s an even better one now. The views of governments that legitimately represent their countries’ peoples should far outweigh those of corrupt, troublemaking tyrants looking for global handouts for themselves. The latter are why the UN is a cesspool of waste, thievery and moral impotence, for which U.S. taxpayers foot so much of the bill.

Think about it. This is a real proposal, not just some vague pretty sounding notion of hopeor another negative screed about failed policies.

Please, vote wisely in November.
