As of May 2008 the GOP is going into the Nov. election with $4,182,708.59 compared to the Democrats $7,938,549.87.
Most of the Reps money comes from a few sources; most of the Dems comes from a variety of sources. It used to be the other way around.
Before Jan. the GOP received $5.6 million in contributions. They spent $5.4 million on political ads to promote more gambling in California. Why, you may wonder? Simple….the $5.6 was provided by Indian casinos in SoCal.
The “Coalition to Protect California’s Budget” gave the State GOP $500,000. This was also Indian gaming money. Gambling protects the California budget? The coalition spent $38,181,623.25 on political ads to expand Indian gambling in California. Their propositions all passed in February of 2008.
Without the money from Indian casinos the GOP would be….what, SOL? Maybe we are anyway, if we have to champion gaming just to stay up with the Dems; I wonder what Lincoln would think about that one?
