A Few Uncomfortable Facts

By Tina Grazier

The unofficial Mom to this blog, Miss Libby, has spokenand thats that!

We had better get used to walking or riding bikes, she says, because oil is finished. Forget about using your oven, your lawn mower, your water heater, your electric tools, your air conditioner, your power boat, your motor scooter or even your golf cartoh, and you better get used to goin to bed at sundown cause TV will certainly be out of the question and reading requires lights. Of course you can always read by candlelight but for those of us who are visually challenged that wouldnt do for long. Also, we had better invest in warmer bedding…and clothing for winter…but only cotton or wool! We also might need to invest in a few of those sweet little Miss Scarlet fans for cooling ourselves in summer…hand squeezed lemon-aid anyone? Sorry if its a bit warm.

Libby’s in good company thoughshe has Al Gore, various and sundry movie stars, and a few scientists on her side as well asSenate Majority Leader Harry Reid:

Fossil Fool – Investors Business Daily

The Dr. No of the drill-nothing Congress tried to deflect the issue of rising gas prices Monday by telling Fox Business News that there are costs we should worry about besides those stemming from Democratic inaction. Our guilt is supposed to replace our anger. “Coal makes us sick,” Reid said, “oil makes us sick, it’s global warming, it’s ruining our country, it’s ruining our world, we’ve got to stop using fossil fuel . . . .” *** Reid et al. say they want us to use alternative energy such as wind and solar. But if it’s going to take another 10 years, as they claim, to bring ANWR, offshore oil and shale into the mix, wind and solar are going to take even longer. Even if we tripled our current output from wind, solar and geothermal, they’d produce just 2.2% of our current energy needs.

That aint much folks…but the article offers a few other bits of information that make it seem even nuttier to put ALL of our energies into unsupported, unreliable alternatives:

Reid needs to talk to Ted Kennedy and John Kerry about their opposition to a wind farm off Cape Cod because it might spoil their view. *** A 500-megawatt, 20,000-acre wind farm scheduled for Valley County, Mont., was stopped by environmentalists who complained that 400-foot turbines would disturb a nearby wilderness area. *** The Sunrise Powerlink solar-energy project in Southern California is being fought because of a 150-mile, $1.5 billion high-voltage line connecting desert-based solar panels with the urban customers of San Diego Gas & Electric. *** The problem with wind and solar, other than getting the power from where it is generated to where it is needed, is its intermittency. The electricity generated must be used immediately. It cannot be saved for that proverbial rainy day.

Yep, the greens love the romantic notion of doing something important, something that really matters until it interupts a pet project or might show up in their own neighborhoods. Harry and his pals have even bigger dreams. They want to create big government projects similar to the building of Hoover Damor a Manhatten Style Project to discover the next great energy source. Call these the FDR blast from the past plans…they’re meant to show America what democrats can do.

We already have an alternative clean and proven energy source, nuclear power. It came out of the Manhatten Project…but most of the the greens dont want that either.

The bottom line is they are willing to create chaos for the entire world just so they can be rightjust to have things their way. The disgrace is that they are willing to do it even in the face of strong evidence proving the dishonesty of the faux science. behind global warming:

Global Warming as Mass Neurosis Wall Street Journal

NASA now begrudgingly confirms that the hottest year on record in the continental 48 was not 1998, as previously believed, but 1934, and that six of the 10 hottest years since 1880 antedate 1954. Data from 3,000 scientific robots in the world’s oceans show there has been slight cooling in the past five years, never mind that “80% to 90% of global warming involves heating up ocean waters,” according to a report by NPR’s Richard Harris. *** The Arctic ice cap may be thinning, but the extent of Antarctic sea ice has been expanding for years. At least as of February, last winter was the Northern Hemisphere’s coldest in decades.

Its time we got hold of ourselves. Panic is never a good state to begin something new. Drastic change, especially when we arent sure its even necessary, is never wise. We have plenty of oil. We can continue to examine and study the areas of concern and the possible solutions. At the same time we can continue to rely on imported oil , drill for oil here at home, and build nuclear power plants. This three pronged approach makes logical sense and will ensure that we continue to enjoy the fruits of our labors in this great nation. All we need is a bit of cooperation.

Harry Reid is stomping his foot and saying No NO NO… but his plan won’t work and the “uncomfortable facts” to prove it just keep rolling in.
