The queen bee of the House of Representatives flits around making proclamations of disdain against the President and the policies of the GOP while her court holds its breath waiting for November to usher in what she believes will be the start of Camelot Deux. Meanwhile the problems of the average American and the business of the nation can just sit in the outer chamber and waitand waitand wait. Take oil supply for instance
A Willing Producer, Investors Business Daily
Energy: As Congress futzes around on offshore drilling, Colombia is doing the exact opposite discovering and producing lots of new oil. So why does Congress withhold free trade from such a helpful ally?
It’s not talked about much in the context of free trade, but it ought to be: Colombia is a rising energy producer that has just discovered huge new oil deposits in its Meta jungle, more than doubling its reserves to 4 billion barrels overnight. *** The U.S.-Colombia free-trade accord, stalled in Congress by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi since April, would promote investment and production. The U.S. benefited hugely from 1994’s NAFTA deal, which made Canada our No. 1 oil supplier. A deal with Colombia would solidify its energy ties to the U.S., too. *** Free trade will not only end tariffs on capital goods that extract energy, reducing costs, but will contribute a critical legal framework for big investment projects, lowering both their risk and cost.
Pelosi refuses to ameliorate our immediate energy needs, she plays games by passing phony energy legislation, and she refuses to pass the free trade agreement with Columbia. The trade agreement would bring relief to our nation by providing oil from a source friendly to our nation (unlike Hugo Chavez in Venezuela) and it would offer better trading terms for American goods.
IBD raises an excellent question. Why does Madam Speaker, along with her pals in the House, refuse to make this trade agreement possible?
Speaker Pelosi is fond of criticizing our president and the GOP as “do nothings” and as having “failed” policies. From where I sit this leader has failed to address the concerns of all Americans, she has failed to meet her obligations to address ethical problems within her own party, and she has offered aid and comfort to our enemies while steping on our friends. From where I sit it’s long past time for Ms Pelosis reign of error to end.
