Planting Seeds of Disaster ACORN, Barack Obama, and the Democratic party, by Stanley Kurtz

* Youve got only a couple thousand bucks in the bank. Your job pays you dog-food wages. Your credit history has been bent, stapled, and mutilated. You declared bankruptcy in 1989. Dont despair: You can still buy a house. So began an April 1995 article in the Chicago Sun-Times that went on to direct prospective home-buyers fitting this profile to a group of far-left community organizers called ACORN, for assistance. In retrospect, of course, encouraging customers like this to buy homes seems little short of madness. *** At the time, however, that 1995 Chicago newspaper article represented something of a triumph for Barack Obama. That same year, as a director at Chicagos Woods Fund, Obama was successfully pushing for a major expansion of assistance to ACORN, and sending still more money ACORNs way from his post as board chair of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge. Through both funding and personal-leadership training, Obama supported ACORN. And ACORN, far more than weve recognized up to now, had a major role in precipitating the subprime crisis.

Non-Profit Raided In Voter Fraud Probe, by Pia Malbran and Wendy Krantz

* The Las Vegas headquarters of the nations largest grassroots community organization for low-income people was raided today by Nevada state authorities as part of a voter-fraud probe. *** The raid was initiated by Nevadas Secretary of State, Ross Miller, after a series of accusations that the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, also known as ACORN, was submitting voter registration lists to the state that contained false or duplicate names of voters. *

Liberal groups fraud shows voter ID need, by Terry Garlock The Atlanta Journal Constitution

* My introduction to ACORN was in the 1990s. When the savings and loan debacle occurred and large numbers of S&Ls had to be taken into receivership, I was the eastern U.S. director of investigations for the Resolution Trust Corporation, the agency established to clean up the mess. *** My staff of investigators worked with the FBI, federal prosecutors and local law enforcement on criminal matters and with internal and external lawyers to bring civil claims against those who caused major S&L losses. *** The RTC took control of assets, such as foreclosed real estate, to sell on behalf of taxpayers. *** Thats where ACORN came in. As an advocate of the poor, ACORN wanted RTCs foreclosed homes and apartment buildings to be made available for free housing, rather than sold for market value to recover taxpayer funds. To make their point, instead of jawboning with Congress where the RTC mandates were made, they demonstrated and intimidated at RTC offices. *** In our office in King of Prussia, Pa., for a time we had police officers on site to escort staff to and from their cars to reduce the chance of violence to their person or automobile by ACORN thugs. *** In July last year, seven ACORN workers were charged with felonies in the largest voter fraud case ever in Washington state. Their enthusiasm for registering Democratic voters led them to submit more than 1,800 fraudulent voter registration forms, filled out from the telephone book. Five pled guilty. ACORN paid a fine. *** This was an act of vandalism upon the voter rolls of King County, said Dan Satterberg, King County prosecuting attorney. *** After the smoke cleared in the 2004 Ohio presidential election, election officials reported that ACORN made a repeated practice of submitting large stacks of voter registration documents at the last minute, filled out months prior but held so late that any verification was impossible. *** The Wall Street Journal wrote in that same 2004 Ohio election, an ACORN worker was given crack cocaine in exchange for fraudulent registrations that included underage voters, dead voters and pillars of the community named Mary Poppins, Dick Tracy and Jive Turkey. *

The ACORN/Obama Voter Registration Thug Thizzle,” by Michelle Malkin

I* n addition to the Las Vegas raid, fraud allegations keep piling up: Lake County, Ind., election officials this month rejected a large portion of the 5,000 registration forms ACORN turned in after conducting registration drives in the area all summer. Some vote canvassers had pulled names and addresses from telephone books and forged signatures. According to local reports, “large numbers of voter registration forms bore signatures all in the same apparent handwriting style” and “apparently the organization’s canvassers broke rules to meet ACORN-set voter registration quotas to get paid.” The fake registrants included dead people and underage kids. *** Last month, Milwaukee, Wis., officials discovered at least seven felons employed as voter registration workers for ACORN and another affiliated group…Fraud has plagued ACORN’s Milwaukee chapter since the last election cycle. *** In Florida, in Orange County alone, ACORN workers turned in multiple copycat forms for six separate voters over the summer. According to the Miami Herald, “One individual had 21 duplicate applications.” *** In Orange, Broward and Miami-Dade counties, ACORN has signed up 135,000 new voters, nearly 60 percent of them registered as Democrats that constitute a fifth of all new voters in that region. *** In Ohio, large numbers of homeless people received free van and bus rides to register. Shelby Holliday, a reporter for Palestra.net, filmed ACORN shuttling prospects to the polls. She told me she spoke with one homeless woman who told her ACORN “told her who to vote for if she wanted a ‘better life,’ and told her not to worry about jury duty (one of the reasons this homeless woman didn’t want to register) because the government probably wouldn’t be able to track her down. She was registering with a temporary address.” *
