What is the Cloward/Priven Strategy?

by Tina Grazier

Strategy: the art of devising or employing plans or stratagems toward a goal

Strategies in politics are important. Anyone running for office must have a strategy if he hopes to win an election. Political parties adopt specific strategies to win as many positions of power in government as they can. Our past history is filled with interesting elections, including some riddled with unethical, underhanded or illegal methods and tactics. Most, however, have stayed within the boundaries of what Americans trust as being favorable to our process. But what happens when a political party has been taken over by a group of thinkers whose methods and strategy are designed not just to gain the upper hand but to radically change society and our form of government? What happens when these strategies aim to destroy the rights and freedoms we enjoy? Since weve elected a man steeped in the methods and practices of radical strategies we may soon find out.

We have written about the influence of Saul Alinsky and his book Rules for Radicals. This strategy and the man who wrote it embody the political spirit and serve as inspiration for many on the left including Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Rahm Emanuel, and activist groups like ACORN and the organizations funded by George Soros. Alinskys “Rules for Radicals” provides leaders and groups with specific methods and tactics:

** “The first rule of power tactics is: power is not only what you have but what the enemy thinks you have.” *** “Wherever possible go outside the experience of the enemy. Here you want to cause confusion, fear, and retreat.” *** “Make the enemy live up to their own book of rules. You can kill them with this. They can no more obey their own rules than the Christian church can live up to Christianity.” *** Ridicule is man’s most potent weapon. It is almost impossible to counterattack ridicule. Also, it infuriates the opposition, who then react to your advantage.” *** “The threat is generally more terrifying than the thing itself.” *** “In a fight almost anything goes. It almost reaches the point where you stop to apologize if a chance blow lands above the belt.” *** “Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it.”

The tactics above were certainly made evident in the way Sarah Palin was treated when she emerged as the Republican candidate for VP or Joe the plumber who dared speak freely from the other camp to then candidate Barack Obama. Notice the opposition is not merely a competitor but an enemy to be targeted personally and destroyed or intimidated by any means.

I dont know how it escaped me before but Ive now become aware of another pair of radical thinkers behind the political machine that is waging war on American freedom and our capitalist system. The Cloward/Priven Strategy differs from the Alinski Method only in that its specific purpose, as articulated by Nancy Coppok, is to overthrow capitalism by overwhelming the government bureaucracy with entitlement demands.” She goes on to say the “created crisis” provides the impetus to bring about raical political change.”

A created crisis…does that sound like anything thats been happening recently in this great country of ours? We are a nation of laws; it is not in our civic nature to go off half cocked but I’d say it is time to become vividly aware and informed. It is time to open our mouths and share with friends, relatives and neighbors what we learn. I will not go quietly into a socialist paradise a la Hugo Chavez’s Venezuela. The first order of busines is to bring light to the darkness. My gut response is…over my dead body but my heart and mind say…speak clearly until you need that big stick. If you too love the America that stands for private property and equal opportunity rather than division and special, government ordered rights for targeted groups of citizens you will want to read, in addition to the article by Nancy Coppok linked above, the following related material:

** The United States of America is the worlds marketplace. Without the worldwide trade generated by American demand, the international marketplace will fail. Today we are witnessing an undeniable demonstration of this fact as world markets reel in response to our domestic financial crisis. This lesson must be burnt into our collective conscience. Our nation is the last repository of free market economic principles, and a fundamental change in our government toward socialism will spell worldwide economic disaster from which we may never recover. **
