I just completed a Homeland Security course titled, Weapons of Mass Destructions, there’s a title that should grab you, eh? I’m sure we’ll be hearing those 4 words said a lot more in the near future too. Obviously I can’t discuss the details of the course, but I can give you some non-restricted info. public access info., that might shake you up, but its very enlightening.
Some of our classmates were involved in a risk assessment called HPAC, which stands for Hazard Prediction and Assessment Capability. HPAC was originally developed to predict the effects of certain hazardous materials (WMD’S) that could be released into the air then calculate the corresponding impacts on civilian and military.
One of the most scary weapons noted was Anthrax. Did you know, it only takes 0.01 to 0.08 millionths of a gram of Anthrax spores to kill you? Now consider that just two grams of Anthrax represents up to 25 million times that lethal dose! Imagine if this was dispersed into the air, the down wind impact of this would be absolutely catastrophic on a densely populated area like San Francisco. A person exposed to just a tiny dose as small as 0.036 mg-min/m3, would have a 90% chance of dying, unless of course they were put immediately on antibiotics.
At the right time of the year and with just the right winds, about a half ounce of weaponized anthrax could cause a toxic plume that could infect up to 128,000 people..or so say HPAC’s theory.
Now lets do one of these HPAC scenarios and see how it works. Lets suppose we catch a terrorist involved in a plot to use anthrax against Californians. We already know they have at least several pounds of refined anthrax and they are somewhere within California at this very moment, but we don’t know how many terrorists are involved or when and where it will be released. It could be multiple releases or just one big release; it could be from an aircraft or from a tall building, the options are endless. We believe that we probably have less than 12 hours before they are in a position to make the release and we base that on winds and weather patterns. Not on hard intel. Evacuation of big cities is out of the question. Our best and only lead at this time is the one terrorist we’ve got in custody. He’s a fanatic and he’s not talking.
Should we: A. Read him his rights and get him a lawyer? B. Do a Jack Bauer on him? Your call.
Oh, come on, you knew I wasn’t going to let you off the hook after my rant on Obama and his stupid ideas on how we should treat terrorist suspects. So who you gonna call on when America is in trouble, Jack or Barrack?
For the record, I really did just finish the WMD course and it was far more scary than anything you could even imagine! We are so extremely exposed and vulnerable….the only thing that is saving us are patriotic men and women that are still willing to do what they have to do protect America, even if the President is threatening to have them arrested! I think one WMD attack like I have noted above will educate a whole lot of liberals who think just like Obama, but the price of such an education may be more than they were willing to pay, but it won’t be a choice. It will just happen and if they are lucky, they will get to live with the consequences of their inactions.
