Eight years of negative reporting, even on good news like a growing economy, never resulted in pouting, shouting, or street fight tactics from the Bush administration. Either this administration is so tacky that it feels justified in getting down in the dirt or they are afraid….very afraid!
A copy of the e-mail message MoveOn is sending out includes the following indicators posted at NewsBusters:
(FOX is a) “wing of the Republican Party…let’s not pretend they’re a news network.” – White House Communications Director
That quote is one of many statements the white House has made recently. It was included in the moveon.org email sent out to implore moveon supporters to boycot FOX…they also made this ludicrous assertion:
Democrats often appear on FOX in hopes of reaching out to conservative viewers. But FOX cuts off their mic, distorts what they say, or runs biased headlines at the bottom of the screen.4 In the end, Democrats always lose on FOX.
I watch Fox. Democrats are given the same opportunity on FOX that others are given when they accept invitations to be on FOX. It is up to them to be effective. Democrats also enjoy the support, sometimes the fawning support, of all of the other news networks.
So why are Democrats and the White House so afraid of FOX and radio hosts like Rush Limbaugh? I think there are two main reasons. The first is that before FOX and Limbaugh they didn’t have to work hard to “get their message out”. The MSM made sure they had the advantage. The second is that FOX and Limbaugh have gained the support, trust, and loyalty of a big chunk of the American people and they continue to grow while the MSM is shrinking. As a result, the White House and Democrats cannot control the message…and that scares them to death.
Welcome Democrats, to the world of real competition where the message must be consistent and the messenger trustworthy.
