Presidential Debate

by Jack

What’s your take on the debate last night? Anyone watch all 2 hours? I was really glad to see CNN make the effort. I watched it and I thought it started off brilliantly, but then as John King repeatedly failed to stop candidates at the 30 second mark and kept doing his uh, uh, uh,uh, it got a little tedious. More to follow.

I did watch it, Over all I thought John King did the best he could to keep everyone on time, I thought the 30 sec, rule was silly, what can you say in 30 seconds?

Have to agree with you on the uh uh though, was a bit irritating. The potential candidates did well, more of an introduction to their beliefs of course, will get much more contentious as time goes on.

As of this time, I like all of them.

I missed the debate…my grandson’s baseball game was more important at this point.

I do like what I’m hearing about it. Civility seemed to rule the day. Yes, these men and women are competing to become the Republican candidate but they are performing in the primaries to win approval as the best candidate to run against Obama, not each other.

We have good solid candidates; I look forward to the months ahead.

I felt there were just basic questions, no major substance. A large share of the questions seemed to be aimed at bringing the candidates personal beliefs into focus, with to much time spent on Life and personal choice issues without enough time on the economy and secure borders. My personal opinion is that it almost seemed like a media fact finding junket and mining potential areas of champaign rhetoric for future media broadcasts.

Harold, I think the format of 30 second sound bite answers should have been at least a minute and even then who could even begin to explain how we fix something as complicated as the national debt? I liked all the candidates, but I felt Newt or Paul gave the best answers. Mitt looked very presidential and he’s a smart guy who appeals to the widest segment, but he is not nearly as bright or as creative as some of the others. Michelle Bachman was outstanding and has incredible qualifications. She could be a real contender. Newt probably won’t last too long in this race.
