Chico’s Finances Part I

What the heck kind of budget is this? Projected revenues go up almost 2%, but projected spending increases over twice that of revenue growth? Take a look at the projected increase in revenues verses the increase in spending, that’s unbelievable they could propose such a thing! You don’t have to be a genius to figure out this budget a loser and that it’s blatant failure of our city council to do it’s job.

Note the amount of your tax dollar that goes strictly to pay for salaries…a whopping 87%. Salaries overwhelm everything else. What’s worse, the parity spread between salaries and things we spend to improve and maintain the community is completely out of whack. You need only go back 25 years or so and see how salaries started eating up more and more of the city budget – then project forward 20 years and at the current rate of growth in salaries. If left unchecked, salaries will soon consumer the entire city budget with virtually nothing left for improvements and repairs. Something has to change and that would be this current city council. Just like the liberals running the State legislature, this little band of spenders on the Council has us nearly bankrupt and they’re asking for more tax money?

The City of Chico has a healthy revenue stream, if you can’t run a little town like Chico on $43 million a year something is grossly wrong!

    THANKS JACK!

It’s us who owe you thanks Juanita. If everyone in this city were as diligent about keeping up with the affairs of this city we would be infinitely better off!

“The City of Chico has a healthy revenue stream, if you can’t run a little town like Chico on $43 million a year something is grossly wrong!”

Tell that to Lando Calrissian who will do everything he can to raise your sales tax. And that goes for the parasites on the city council who want to raise your phone tax and tax your grocery bags.

And why don’t we see this information about salaries in the Enterpise Record? Why isn’t Katy what’s her name writing about this? It is a huge story. She is supposed to cover the City Council, right?

Why isn’t David Little writing an editorial about this wretched situation?

Once again the ER is asleep at the switch but why?

Anyway, this information should be very useful for anyone opposed to the upcoming tax increases.

This information needs to be spread FAR and WIDE!

Even if the proposed sales tax goes through and things don’t work out people like Lando can con the people into raising taxes yet again and then again and again. (Just keep promising them a new baseball stadium and throw in a pony and an ice cream.)

Remember Happy Jack, there’s nothing a tax increase won’t solve! Don’t worry, be happy (the new City Council motto).

Joseph, thank you for your comments and I agree it is a very important story, but with all due respect this article is in the ER, we’re part of the online newspaper. Of course we’re just a lowly blog, but technical we’re all part of the news scene. Maybe our editor would like to do more with this story, might be a good suggestion for you to make? Or better yet, send something in to Letters to the Editor.

Jack? Or is this Tina? Anyway, please don’t tell me you’re a member of the liberal media.

The MSM doesn’t want to let us in their exclusive clubhouse, but even the MSM has blogs. As for us, we reach about 30,000 people a month and we’ve been going at it for about 5 years and published thousands of articles. So I think we’ve earned the right to be considered a legit part of the news and information media.

Joseph, by default only, but guilty as charged. -Jack

It would be good to know how that salary and benefits expense breaks out. This is the number one issue facing all government municipalities and states. The cure offered by Republican governors and councils has resulted in improvement for those states and cities, inclusing improved conditions in the school system.

We have blogged about some of that success.

Chico has one big problem that some others don’t have. Attracting business to Chico is tough when the state is as unfriendly to business as California definitely is. That means cuts can be the only sensible cure to financial woes since citizens are already struggling with rising prices (particularly gasoline food).

But the Democrat propensity to bite the hand that feeds government seems an impossible mind set to breach. What will the people of Chico do to change our situation. that is the question of the year! How we answer it nationally may make it the question of the century!

  8. Joseph says:

Well Happy Jack, I will certainly give you credit.

I had never heard about this incredible salary issue until YOU brought it up. Never heard word one about it in the ER, CNR or on any of the TV “newscasts” or on the 1290 radio station “news.”

I know it sounds far fetched but I wonder if these “news” outlets are purposely keeping us in the dark on this.

How do you think the public would react if they knew about this? I will tell you. I think most would tell Schwabbie, Lando and all the other DemoNcrats to stuff their tax increases where the sun don’t shine!

  9. Joseph says:

“As for us, we reach about 30,000 people a month”

Just curious how you get that number.

  10. Post Scripts says:

Joseph, we have a “counter” located at the E-R, and this is normal, most websites out here do that. Don’t worry it does not track you – it only tracks the number of times people visit our blog. You remain anonymous to us and even if you were not, we don’t release any information to anyone. ( We’re all protected by the Shield Law)
